Brian and Jessica were alone together in the park near Jessica's home talking, laughing and play fighting. They were in love, enjoying each other's company. The sun was setting and Brian offered to walk Jessica home.
"I haven't done this in such a long time." He said squeezing Jessica's hand.
"Done what?" She asked.
"Walked somewhere holding someone's hand. I tell you, it feels great."
She smiled at him and rested her head on his shoulder. Brian let go of her hand and placed his arm around her neck. They walked together. He stopped at the entrance of a trail that led to Jessica's back yard and looked down at his love.
"I love you very much Jessica!" Brian stated.
"I love you too Brian." She closed her eyes and leaned over to kiss him.
That mere kiss lasted almost ten minutes long during which, as the passion grew, Brian placed his hand under the cut of her denim shorts and slowly lifted his hand toward her buttock. Jessica flinched momentarily but did not stop him. He then raised his hand from it to the bottom of her shirt and began to slide it upward feeling the softness of her waist in his hand as he continued. When his fingers touched the fabric of her bra, Jessica's arm lowered from his neck and moved his arm away whispering.
"No." She pulled away from him slightly and tried to look into his eyes.
"I'm sorry Jessie." He said looking down. Then, looking into her eyes, he continued, "Jess?"
"What?" She smiled.
"Would you like to make love?" Her smile vanished instantly. She hesitated.
"I don't know." She replied.
"It's alright. I shouldn't have asked." He kissed her again and said, "I must be going, I have a lot of work yet to do back home."
"Okay." She replied
"I love you Jessie!"
"I love you too." She answered and hugged him.
The two went off in separate directions.
"How could he do this to me?" She repeated chocking on the tears that began to burn her eyes.
Darkness, fear, anger, hurt. She was hurt by what Brian said and did earlier in the evening. She never suspected that he would do such a thing. All through their nine month relationship, they were getting closer and closer to each other, understanding each other's feelings and forming a great love. Their passion was indeed growing stronger as time passed and she remembered how Brian had complimented her full lips that he always loved to kiss.
Confusion, fright, sadness, sorrow. Jessica began to wonder. "Does it have to be this way again?" She had been hurt by guys before but not like tonight. Why did they all hurt her? She cried herself to sleep.
Morning came in an ordinary kind of way. Jessica felt somewhat refreshed from the few hours of sleep she managed to get. She walked into the bathroom and began to disrobe looking at the sliding mirror on the bathtub. She thought she would begin crying again but she held strong and took a long warm shower.
She was drying her hair starring blankly at the mirror again repeating two words over and over in her mind.
"Never again!"
Never again could she ever trust a guy to get as close to her as she was with Brian, at least not for a long while.
Then, like a flash of insight, a new thought appeared in her mind which made her eyebrows rise.
"In an ordinary kind of way...It happens all the time!"
End?
