Beneath The Remains was a classic in every sense of the word. Today it still holds that honor in the mind of most fans of this type of music. It's a fast and furious affair comprising some brilliant riffs, song structures and a solid vocal performance. Just about every song on this album is memorable in some way. From the title track to the raging "Primitive Future", SEPULTURA just shred everything in their path. This album, along with PESTILENCE's debut release and SODOM's Persecution Mania, made 1988 a truly awesome year for the extreme underground scene. I only wish we still had good years like that today!
This is an album that cannot be ignored if you haven't picked it up for whatever lame excuse you are using. I don't think I've met someone who listens to music of this nature that had anything negative to say about it. It was vastly improved over Schizophrenia, an album I cared very little for, and had everyone scrambling for a SEPULTURA T-shirt. This is the album that made SEPULTURA.
If you ask many of the late 80's/early 90's Thrash Metal bands who their biggest influences were you'd inevitably get the mandatory SLAYER answer but my bet is you'd probably hear SEPULTURA mentioned in that same breath. Brazil, in the middle and late 1980's seemed like an unlikely place to find quality Speed/Thrash but lo and behold came SEPULTURA, releasing one of the best pure Thrash albums ever.
