DEICIDE
S/T
How is it that just about any group of guys with instruments but devoid of talent can walk into a recording studio, record a bunch of senseless, satanic crap and have it distributed by a reputable label? Well, just ask DEICIDE; they did it.Despite all the pre-release hype over DEICIDE, the album and the band prove that being bad is an art form. The album, even years after its release is stil one of the great laughs of the underground scene. Unfortunately the laughs were short-lived in the beginning and though this band is a utter joke, the humor has worn since. Oh how I hate thee, let me count the ways...
First off, DEICIDE have very little in the way of talent when it comes to playing their instruments. The guitar solos especially, are a complete farce. Secondly, they are so over-the-top lyrically that no self-respecting fan could possibly take them seriously. Its nothing but 'Satan this' and 'Satan that'. Give it a rest already! Furthermore, it matters little that these guys claim to be Satanists. The fact is that real Satanism has nothing to do with worship of a devil of any sort. I guess old Glen Benton and Co. weren't smart enough to figure that out. Thirdly, Benton's vocals have to be some of the worst ever. He essentially dubs in a second, higher pitched voice over the deeper one to make himself sound like Linda Blaire in The Exorcist. The end result is nothing short of laughable. Just listen to the track "Day of Darkness" with its intro of vomit-style growls and screams. Pleeeeeaaaaase!!! You can just feel how bad these guys want to sound evil. Well, it doesn't work and is nothing short of a total embarrassment. DEICIDE embody every known cliche' you can possibly imagine with this mountainous pile of dung. Worse still, they can't write or even play decent Death Metal rythms to begin with. Just awful.
Why Roadrunner ever signed a band as bad as DEICIDE I'll never know. Since this piece of trash was released the band have gone on to record a few more of these nonsensical albums. I won't bother to purchase anything by these guys until they learn how to write and play music with some respecteable level of competence and mature lyrically. This is probably the worst CD I own and that is why I keep holding on to it - its novelty!
