This is from looking at too many listserv messages. 'Sfar as I
can tell,
this isn't a real list -- I hope!!
Where there's a good fiction list, there's a good discussion list, and
where
there's a bad one, there's...
Your subscription to LatinList-L has been accepted.
Following are the English-version rules for LatinList-L. This
will most
likely be the only post you will see in your native language, unless
you are
a native Latin speaker. We don't want any mistakes about the
rules!!!
1. THIS LIST IS FOR DISCUSSION IN **LATIN ONLY**!! Violators WILL
be set
nopost for a period of no less than four months.
2. Discussion of fiction posted on LatinFic-L is permitted, however,
personal correspondence IS NOT. Violators may be set nopost.
3. NO OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION ALLOWED! This includes advertising,
personal
responses to authors or posters, and anything not related to the Latin
language and culture. Violators WILL be set nopost for a period
of no less
than three months.
4. ABSOLUTELY *NO* FLAMES. Violators WILL be set nopost, permanently.
5. Do not quote more than three lines of a previous post. Give
credit to
the author of the previous post. Summaries of prior posts are
permissable,
if kept within two lines. A MAXIMUM of five lines total may be
used in
describing a prior post. Violators may be set nopost.
6. Gossip about Latin officials is not permitted. Historical speculation
is. The difference is this: gossip has no bearing on history.
Violators
may be set nopost.
7. Each listmember is limited to three posts per day on LatinList-L.
Preferably, each listmember will only post ONCE per day. This
is due to the
large volume of mail on this extremely popular list. Violators
may be set
nopost.
8. DO NOT SEND LIST COMMANDS TO LatinList-L!!!!! This is arguably
the most
annoying deed possible on this list. Violators WILL be set nopost
for a
period of no less than six weeks.
9. FICTION IS *ONLY* TO BE POSTED TO LatinFic-L!! LatinList-L
is a
DISCUSSION list. Violators WILL be set nopost for a period of
no less than
six weeks.
10. Limit signatures to ONE line. Since this is an unusually high-volume
list, we must insist on this rule to prevent wasting of space on the
server
and in listmembers' mailboxes. We have encountered lists where
listmembers
are allowed six lines for signatures. This is space-consuming
and boring.
For an example of this excess, see Kathy Walsh's signature on the Forever
Knight fandom lists. If your provider appends text to the end of your
signature, that is included as part of your signature. A program
to remove
this appendage is available on our hostserver's "Student Projects"
page.
Remember, this is a *ONE line* limit! Also, NO SIGNATURE ART!!
This appears
disgustingly distorted in many mailers and is unnecessary. Cryptic
abbreviations are ABSOLUTELY NOT allowed!!! Violators WILL be
set nopost
for a period of not less than six months.
