The Feast of the Hunter's Moon June 25
By Edain McCoy

The Hunter's Moon has it roots in the old folk practices of Eastern Europe.
It was originally a night to honor the Goddess and God
of the hunt. On the Full Moon nearest Summer Solstice,
summer game animals were hunted with the aid of the Full Moon's light
and summunal feasts were held to celebrate the bounty of the hunt.
A portion of the harvest was sacrificed to the Lady of the Hunt
and her consort, the Stag God.

Saturnalia December 17-23
By Edain McCoy

For seven days around the time of Winter Solstice, the Romans paid
homage to Saturn, the God of harvesting, planting, and the unknown,
and the consort of the fertility Goddess Ops. Saturn's
festival featured lavish feasting, drunkenness, competitive games,
role reversals, and temporary freedom for slaves. The giving of
gifts was also part of the celebration, a forerunner of the popular
Christmas custom.
Bona Saturnalia!
