Newer WCW figures by Toy Biz

To your left is a nice photo of the Sting figure contained in the upcoming WCW "Power Slam" series of figures by Toy Biz. Spiffy huh? There are several new figures out, or due for release soon that look to be pretty cool if they resemble the prototypes closely enough.

One of the new releases will be VERY popular among Sting fans. A 6-pack called "Evolution of Sting" will be released in the upcoming months. This super-cool pack will feature many different versions of the Stinger. From his early blonde flat-top days, to his natural color days, to the crow Sting days and on to his stint in the Wolfpac. At least 3 of the figures in the pack will be exclusive to the assortment, and unavailable seperately.

In another note, February is the month for the annual Toy Fare, so within a few weeks we'll start seeing even more hints of what's to come later on in the year. Hopefully, they'll be even more cool stuff for Sting fans to spend their money on. In the meantime, take a look at the pics below...and they are clickable as always.

For the older stuff, check out the Older Toys section.

  • The pic on the left displays the figures slated to be in the assortment. I'm sure that's subject to change, but they certainly look good so far. On the right is the current box design, which I'm sure could be changed as well. In any case, this assortment will be a must-have for any fan of the Stinger! Way to go Toy Biz!

  • Once again, the Sting "Power Slam" figure. You can see the little Macho Man standee he comes with. All of these figures have an action accessory of some form. The other figures in the line are Goldberg, Dennis Rodman, Sid Vicious, Hak (who has long since returned to ECW), and Hollywood Hogan. Series 2 will contain Sting, Buff Bagwell, Kanyon, Kevin Nash, and Roddy Piper. These are available now.

The second photo is of the actual figure, which I found earlier this week. Toy Biz used the legs and the slightly re-sculpted Torso of the "Slam and Crunch" Sting figure, along with totally new arms and a brand new head. The figure really is pretty nice, and I consider it, along with the Slam and Crunch figures to be the best Sting figures released thus far.

  • This looked to be a promising set. The "Thunder Slam" Sting figure has a really nice scorpion pattern...much better than previous figures had. I was looking forward to the set due to this factor alone. Unfortunately, the production model was changed, using that same, asinine, silver scorpion chestplate scheme used in the "Bruisers" Sting figure, as you can see in the pic on the right. How disappointing. Available now!

  • Now this is sweet, and makes up for some of the disappointement involved with the Thunder Slam figure. This deluxe Sting figure is a Kay-Bee Toys exclusive, and its basically an extention of Toy Biz's "Famous Covers" line of Marvel Comics figures. This version of the Stinger is super poseable, comes with a real cloth costume, but strangely has no bat. However...he doesn't really need it. A Hogan figure of this type is due for release soon, and will be exclusive to Target stores. Available now!

  • The Sting figure in the power-arm assortment. Its the same basic Sting body they keep re-using, with a different paint-scheme for the torso. Not really worth it unless you are a serious collector.

  • The Sting figure that was a late addition to the WCW "Ring Fighters" assortment. This was basically a repaint of the Sting figure used for the "Road Wild" assortment. This figure's legs are a bit long, due to being made for that motorycycle in the Road Wild line, but the poseable arms and swiveling hip joints make this a pretty keen figure. I bought one and repainted it...a pic of which is at the page bottom. Available now!

  • The Sting figure from the "Bruisers" line. I bought this figure only because I found that the chestplate could be removed, and because I liked the drop-line accessory that it came with. I hate this figure's costume. It's a total Toy-Biz original, and whomever thougt such a design would be cool was sadly mistaken. Available now!

  • Nice wheels...but the figure looks to be yet another that will utilize the horrid "Bruisers" costume design. This is from the "Road Rebels" assortment, which will also contain Goldberg and Hulk Hogan. The cars are nice though, and will feature working lights and sound effects. Available Soon!

    Customs

  • Thus far I have only customized 2 Sting figures. In my first Sting custom, which appears on the right, I turned a series one Wolfpac Sting into Steve Borden, even adding little sunglasses. I used acrylic paints, including some drybrushing of brown paint over the figure's black hair. Eventually I'd like to change his clothes into street clothes, likely using sculpey.

The second custom is my repaint of the "Ring Fighters" Sting figure. I took his white boots and added some black details to closely resemble the Black boots/White spats combo Sting used during part of 99. I also repainted his face to more closely match his current makeup scheme. Lastly, I drybrushed some brown into his hair, since Sting has dark brown hair...not black.
