  • Not much news today. As stated, Sting did indeed appear on NITRO, and made a rather significant impact. One thing of interest was the fact that the up-and-coming star, Vampiro, appeared when Sting did his run-in, and helped him out, taking care of Flair while Sting took out the Total package.

This seems to lend some creedance to the claims and rumors that WCW would like to team Sting and Vampiro up in some fashion. I think this would be a good idea. It would help elevate Vampiro, and also serve to rejuvinate Sting in the process.

Its also been rumored that Sting isn't too keen on the idea. This would seem to strengthen statements indicating that Sting would rather not put younger wrestlers over. If that's true, he needs to get over it, considering all the times Flair and others helped put Sting over. Anyway, I hope Sting warms to the idea of teaming with Vampiro, because both of them, and in turn WCW itself, could benifit greatly.

  • One last tidbit involves those troublesome rumors about Sting deciding to drop out of Wrestling full-time. Rumors which just keep popping up. From Wrestleboard.com and the Real Deal Wrestling Newsletter comes the following blurb:

-- "Sting has told WCW officials that though he is wrestling at the PPV this Sunday, he has no intention of returning to WCW full-time as wrestler. Sting could become a full-time actor"

I think this is simple rumor-mongering, and has no real validity. Wade Keller stated that Sting will be back full-time following "Uncensored", and I choose to believe an actual authority. Time will ultimately reveal who is correct.

  • The following news is not Sting related...but its promising, satisfying news all the same for those of you who, like me, can't stand Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea. The following snippet is from The Shooters, but this news has been popping up everywhere, including Wrestleboard.com and 2xzone.com. It's delightful news indeed.

-- "Over in WCW, Wade Keller has the latest tidbit on what a useless piece of sh*t Hulk Hogan is. Hogan was demanding full creative control over the title scene and Brad Siegel more or less laughed in his face, and then told Hogan they'd use his four remaining PPV appearances to put him in opening matches against jobbers, where he could then use his full creative control to determine the match outcome in any manner he liked. Apparently, Hogan's gotten humble real quick, and is now telling anybody who will listen and who cares that he'll work out the final four months and then jump to the WWF. I know the idea of Hulk Hogan in the WWF jobbing to EVERYBODY makes me happy and glad, but anything else would just be sickening."

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy! If this is true, things are looking up!

This update's news comes courtesy of Sting's Lost Lair.

  • Sting appears on the cover of the latest issue of "Wrestling Superstars". The feature article also revolves around the Stinger, and the fact that while Sting changes looks more often than people change socks, he's still pretty much the same guy he's always been. A good article, which I just may transcribe soon, and some good pics to boot.

  • On Thunder this past Wednesday evening, Mike Tenay stated that Sting will appear on NITRO this upcoming Monday (March 13th).

  • From Pierce Piper's Wrestling News:

"Wade Keller reported on PWtorch.com that Sting has agreed to return to WCW and will be back full-time with the company starting with the Uncensored pay-per-view"

And on that note I, and many other Sting fans, utter a heartfelt "Whew!".

  • From WCW.com:

-- "WCW superstars and cast from "Ready To Rumble" will shoot a music video with musical group Bif Naked on March 10. The video would air on MTV to promote the movie and the soundtrack"

    Click for a larger pic.

-- "Sting will be on the "Martin Short Show" on March 16. The air date has yet to be determined"

-- " 'MADD TV' taped an episode with Sting and David Arquette on March 3 that will air on either April 8 or 15"

  • On a lighter note, I've come across one of the latest Sting action figures at my local Toys 'R' Us, released in the "Power Slam" series by Toy Biz. He comes complete with a huge, Scorpion-tail shaped bat, a Macho Man standee to knock down, and a really, really peeved expression on his face. Its very poseable and really pretty nifty. He looks extra cool when ya take one of the baseball bats from one the previous Sting figures and stick it in his hand.

Newer stuff for this week. These reports come courtesy of Wrestlingdotcom.com.

  • As I expected, Sting did not show on last night's NITRO. Considering that Hogan/Flair was prominently hyped, the return of Sting would have directed heat away from that matchup, and Hogan wouldn't want that.

Dave Meltzer has stated that Sting will likely return either at Superbrawl this upcoming Sunday (the 20th), or Monday NITRO on the 21st. It is still unsure as to what guise Sting would take when he came back. Sting himself stated that he would NOT return in the old flat-top, surfer-dude gimmick, and that he was unsure that Russo's idea to bring him back in his "Crow" gimmick was a good one.

  • Over the weekend, WCW put on a house show in Germany. Both Sting and Bret Hart appeared. Hart cut an interview, and Sting did a run-in during the main event. Scott Hall was also there, and he reportedly got too sloshed to be permitted on the plane back, thus causing his absence at last night's NITRO.

Tons of recent Sting news! These reports come courtesy of Wrestleboard.com, and Wrestlingdotcom.com.

Steve Borden (Sting) in the TNT Movie 'Shutterspeed'.

  • Sting was due to return on the February 14th addition of Monday NITRO, along with Goldberg and Hogan. Sting, in a recent interview, suggested this may not happen. Next week's NITRO will tell the tale.

In an addition to this story is the news of the recent signing of Sabu to a WCW contract. WCW's Mark Madden stated that Sabu may debut on the Feb. 14th NITRO, and if he does it is doubtful Sting will re-appear then, because it wouldn't look good for Sting to receive a bigger crowd pop, as far is WCW is concerned.

  • Sting was the guest during a special WCW Live internet chat last night (Monday, Februray 7th). He answered a LOT of questions! For a complete transcript of the chat, follow this link to Sting's Lost Lair.

  • One of the first things Sting did during the chat was dispell the rumor that he'd return as the Blonde buzzcut Sting, and would basically return with the same look he had previous to his sabbatical.

  • Sting's TNT Original Movie "Shutterspeed" aired on Sunday evening (Feb. 6th) at 10pm. The film reportedly did a 1.2 rating on Sunday evening.

  • Congrads to Sting and his wife in the birth of the lastest little Stinger on Jan. 28th, a daughter named Gracie.

  • One of the more interesting comments made in one of Sting's recent interviews revolves around his considerations in the past to go to the WWF. Sting went on to say that he'd considered a move to the WWF with the last two contracts he'd signed, but was unsure if Vince McMahon really wanted him in the WWF as a talent, or simply to undermine WCW.

    Click for a larger pic.

Sting also voiced his displeasure with WCW's recent moves and direction, which wasn't really a surprise. If you'd like to read these interviews, you can visit Sting's Lost Lair and read the interview by Jim Varsallone, and the one by Alex Marvez.

  • A bunch of new WCW action figures are due for release soon, and several Sting figures are on the slate. Among the new Sting figures that will see release: A really sweet version of the Stinger due to hit the shelves as part of the WCW "Power Slam" assortment (image on the right). Also of note, a six pack of Sting figures dubbed the "Evolution of Sting", which will feature 3 exclusive Sting figures available nowhere else! For more, take a gander at the Sting Stuff section.

On his show, Mark Madden stated that the plan is for Luger to be manipulating Sting to the point that Sting goes over the edge and believes everyone but Luger is turning on him. He's not a true heel, but a misguided anti-hero.

Interesting. It could work... however, watch Hogan find a way to screw it up.

    A few Tidbits...

On NITRO we found out that the Sting/Hogan rematch will take place at Fall Brawl on September 12th. In fact, there is a rumor that directly refers to the possible outcome of this match. This comes courtesy of Wrestleboard.Com

    - Some people within WCW feel that they are about to pay off a major favor to Sting. You pin my back, I'll pin yours. The booking committee has resorted to making deals with the wrestlers, and Sting's deal is reportedly to lay down for Sid at Road Wild (which he did) and win the world title at Fall Brawl.

Also, there have been more murmurings about the possibility of Sting returning to his original gimmick. Well...I think there is the possibility that he could return in a variation of his old colorful costumes and facepaint. However, as a friend pointed out, I doubt he would go back to the blonde flat-top haircut.

Would this be a good idea? It just might be... it could provide Sting with the shot in the arm his character needs. However, it must be pointed out that Sting is still incredibly over...easily the #2 face in WCW, behind only Goldberg.

    New Sting stuff at WCW.com...

WCW has added a LARGE section of articles on the Stinger! Not only that, but dozens of photos accompany the articles. Go go Spotlight on Sting and enjoy!

Also, this comes courtesy of Wrestleboard.Com:

    - Sting called into QVC last night during their special WCW merchandise program and said that he will be in Los Angeles today for 10 hours along with Goldberg to tape an upcoming WCW video game commercial. Speaking of Sting, on September 20 he will be in Vancouver, British Columbia to film his part for the TBS-only movie, "Shutterspeed."

    Sting vs. Hogan on NITRO...

Before last night's (8-23) Monday Nitro ... from Las Vegas, Nevada ... Sting battled Hulk Hogan for the WCW Heavyweight title. Before the match, I asked the fans the big question...

    Will Sting win?

I made the question multiple choice.

    1) How will (did) the match between Sting and Hogan end on NITRO?
    a) A clean win by Sting that will show the fans WCW isn't as far gone as everyone thinks
    b) A clean win by Hogan that will show fans WCW IS as far gone as everyone thinks
    c) A run-in will result in the match being thrown out, further frustrating the fans
    d) Hogan will turn heel, despite match outcome, and prove history repeats itself
    e) Sting will turn heel, despite match outcome, and prove that WCW is NUTS!
    f) I could care less, I'll be watching Chris Jericho on RAW

Oh the tangled web WCW weaves. And, anyone who answered C or F ... way to go!

By the way...a rumor is currently circulating the internet boards that Sting will turn heel. More on this as it develops.

    Recent Tidbits...

Most of you probably know that Sting was featured on the cover of 'TV Guide' a couple of weeks ago as part of their WCW series. However, he's popping up all over. Sting also appears on one of the 2 alternate covers in the latest issue of 'WIZARD - The Guide to Comics' (September 99 issue), and he also is featured in the latest issue of 'The Wrestling Analyst', and appears on the cover.

Sting is appearing in WIZARD's first-ever photo cover due to the current popularity of Pro-Wrestling. Wrestling is once more crossing over into comics, and the popularity of the 'Undertaker' comic series has prompted the spawning of new titles. There will be comics featuring Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mankind, and Kevin Nash.

Though nothing is concrete yet, rumors persist that WCW is in negotiations with major comic publishers about creating some titles based on their top stars. You can bet good money that when these titles finally get printed, Sting will have his own book.

These following titdbits come courtesy of Wrestleboard.Com

    Sting goes commercial

Sting has filmed a commercial for "Sprite". It features Sting wrestling with a kid in the kid's house, then the kid has a drink of Sprite. Sting then beats the crap outta this kid, provign that "Image is Nothing, Thirst is Everything".

    Could we see 'Sting Classic'?

There is a slight possibility that Sting could return to his original colorful costume and face paint for the Main Event at Nitro this Monday night. WCW saw what a big pop that Hulk Hogan got when he returned to his classic Red and Yellows, so they think that Sting will get the same response -- if not better. The move, if indeed it comes to pass would be expected to draw a strong fan reaction to Mondays show, which will also include KISS, and the possible return of Bret Hart. Hulk Hogan is also rumored to turn heel again during the main event.

Another Sting video on the way!

WCW Live (the 8/20 edition) gave out some interesting news concerning WCW's upcoming videocassettes and their release dates... On September 1, WCW will be releasing another assortment of videos, this time containing a video about Ric Flair, Hollywood Hogan, and videos labeled "WCW Mayhem" and "Best of Starrcade 2." The "WCW Mayhem" video will be a compilation video that will showcase WCW Monday Nitro's best moments and matches from the start of the program on September 4, 1995 until now. The Hollywood Hogan videotape will offer a very unique look at Hogan and his life at home. Hogan's house, nWo boat, and Harley Davidson motorcycles will be shown in the tape, too. Ric Flair's video will also include a look inside his house from Charlotte, North Carolina and will contain a shoot-like interview from Flair also that will talk about his lawsuit against Eric Bischoff last year. The next series of WCW videos that will be released will include a video on the Nitro Girls, Sid Vicious, and Sting. Sting's upcoming video, which will be his second WCW video as apart of the Superstar Series, will be a little different from his previous one. Instead, this video will take a deep look at Sting's in-ring character and at his wrestling career, unlike his last video which mainly highlighted his personal life without focusing on his character and gimmick in-depth. A lot of the comments from Sting for this video were shot from the set of the movie, "Fight Club," because Sting's character is similar to movie itself or the theme of it. The footage for the Nitro Girls video will be shot in Miami and Atlanta next month and will also be shot in Las Vegas, the same city where Nitro takes place this Monday. The Sid Vicious, Nitro Girls, and Sting videos will be released in early December and will be available in stores such as K-Mart, Target, and WalMart. WCW's deal with the DirecTV and Dish Network satellite companies will continue through 2000 and beyond in which the WCW videos are shown every month for $4.99 - $9.99 per viewing. Twenty more WCW videos are expected to be released in the year 2000.

    Sting tells All!

An in-depth interview with Sting can be found at 1wrestling.com's Daily Lariat for July 12th. It is a must-read for any fan of the Stinger!

    Recent Tidbits...

This latest bit of detail comes courtesy of HWOglacier

Several Wrestlers angry with the return of Sid

There are reportedly several wrestlers angry with Sid being allowed to return to WCW. Obviously Arn Anderson & Ric Flair are at the top of that list, but add Sting and Lex Luger who both expressed dissatisfaction with the former WWF World Champion's return to World Championship Wrestling.

Sid has a strong reputation for not being very tolerable by several of his co-workers and has a horrible reliablity rate. Sid is known for leaving wrestling every year during the baseball season so he can play baseball, and being a less than satisfactory worker in the ring.

If these complaints persist, Sid's stay with World Championship Wrestling might be short lived.

I'd like to thank Wrestlesource Newsboard for this latest newsbite.

You win some, you loose some...

    Yeah...its news that's a week old...but I was busy, and disgusted.

During his QVC special, Sting was asked by a fan when he would next win the World Title. He answered, saying that he would win this year.

I never expected that he would win so soon.

After a long, grueling match, Sting captured the belt after notching a victory against Diamond Dallas Page. It was a great match...a great victory.

However, by night's end, that joy would turn into frustration.

After the victory, Kevin Nash would challenge DDP, Goldberg, and the new-champ Sting to a 4-corners match ( Yeah...ANOTHER 4-corners match) to end NITRO.

In short, Sting accepted, and with a little help from the Macho Man, DDP regained the title on the same night he had lost it.

So...Sting wins the belt on Nitro...and then about 90 minutes later looses it again.

    Thanks WCW...thanks a lot.

Check my commentary page for my opinion on this latest debacle.

    Recent Tidbits...

In some other recently reported tidbits...

  • The latest edition of WCW magazine is full of Sting stuff. In fact., he's the cover story. Its on bookstore shelves now, so be sure to go grab a copy. Its chock full of some great photos.

  • Out of respect for the victims and the families affected by the Columbine High School ( Littleton, Colorado ) massacre, WCW has decided to place a temporary ban on the wearing of black trenchcoats. This, of course, directly affects Sting, who will be unable to wear his trenchcoat for an undetermined length of time.

This also affects the return of Alex Wright, who was seen on the last edition of Nitro with a very dark, very "Gothic" new look. His return is now delayed as well.

  • In a recent edition of "WCW Live", Kevin Nash has some kind words concerning Sting. He acknowledged Sting as obe of the top icons in WCW, and as probably the number two guy in terms of selling WCW merchandise.

Hopefully Nash's gratitude will result in more than a 90-minute World title reign for Sting in 1999.

  • And lastly, it had been reported that some of the performers in WCW had been upset with Sting's big push, due to the fact that Sting had been away for so long. Apparently, Sting's good-natured, affable attitude has recentlty smoothed over any hard-feelings among most of the performers. It seems that Sting is such a nice guy that nobody can stay mad at him.

As for anyone else that may be miffed...when they push as much product as Sting has, and get the pops he does, they may have room to talk. Until then, they need to get over it.

    Sting returns to action tonight

Tonight on Pay Per View, Sting will make his true return to the ring as part of the main event at WCW's Spring Stampede.

The former WCW champion has been out of sight since October, but he has definitely not been "out of mind", as the fans have renewed their old chants of "We want Sting!" at the last few WCW Nitro broadcasts.

As you remember, Sting was placed on the shelf after a vicious attack at Halloween Havoc '98, an attack that saw Sting rolled out of the arena on a stretcher. He made his return to the WCW house show picture in January, where he gained revenge on Hart in the form of many a decisive match.

Now, Sting has reappeared and made it clear that he is once more after the WCW World Heavyweight belt.

Sting will participate in one of the most potentially exciting matches in Wrestling history when he takes on 3 other men in a 4-corners match for the belt. His foes will be Hollywood Hogan, Diamond Dallas Page, and current WCW Heavyweight champ, Ric Flair.

Some old rivalries could well be renewed, as Flair and Hogan are old foes, and Flair has been one of the sharpest thorn's in Sting's side for many years.

Time and again has Flair thwarted Sting, both by himself and with the Horsemen in tow, and they have also partnered sevaral times with mixed results. Several years ago, Sting earned a title shot against Flair, and in hopes of dissuading his young challenger, Flair invited Sting to join the Horsemen. Sting accepted the roster slot, but stubbornly clung to his desire to face Flair for the Belt. He would pay a price for his refusal to give up the title shot.

Sting had forgotten one of the basic unspoken rules by which the 4 Horsemen lived...do all that is necessary to glorify Ric Flair. The Horseman attecked Flair before the match, and later, an angry Sting would try to climb a cage to get to Flair and injured his knee in the process. After recovering, Sting went on to challenge Flair at the 1990 Great American Bash, where he went on to defeat Flair and win the belt.

However, that old rivalry has never truly died, and old feelings could rear their ugly head tonight at Spring Stampede. You can bet I'll be watching, rooting for the Stinger.

    From April 10th

    Update!

Well, looks like I was correct.

Sting will indeed be on next weeks Monday NITRO from Los Vegas.

In fact...he's going to make a statement.

Tony Schiavone announced at the begining of the 4/1 edition of Thunder that Sting would appear on NITRO, and would have some things to say. He and his fellow announcers Bobby Heenan and Mike Tenay speculated throught the evening about the nature of his announcement, wondering if it would be made by Sting himself, or through an intermediary.

It was also pointed out that Sting's appearance in the black-and-white facepaint usually signified his anger ( Well DUH! ), and that he was likely extremely upset over something.

Well, lets see... Nash lays down for Hogan, Lex Luger also turns and aligns with Hogan. Ric Flair has returned to his heelish roots and is now abusing his power as WCW President. What could he be upset about?

Obviously, there's many an issue to be resolved...and the Stinger will likely address more than one. The one that likely sticks in his craw more than most is the issue of Lex Luger's betrayal.

Luger is currently injured, and thus cannot wrestle... but that won't stop Sting from delivering Luger a stern warning, or even a sharp blow from his baseball bat. Luger and Sting are former best friends. But, when Luger attacked Goldberg from behind and sided with Hogan, he also stabbed Sting in the back.

And betrayal is something Sting is quite used to.

And usually...he does something about it.

If I were you Lex, I'd watch myself. Elsewise you could become the dark avenger's next victim.

    Sting to return Next Nitro

Sting hosted a 2-hour WCW/NWO merchandise special on QVC this evening...and at the end of the program he made the announcement that he will return to WCW proper during next Monday's ( March 28th ) huge Nitro in Toronto, Canada.

He also revealed some insider info concerning his hobbies and his career which I shall add to his bio in my next update, likely by Thursday.

Sting went on to say that he's going to "play it by ear" and get to the bottom of the goings on concerning Lex Luger and Kevin Nash's return to Hollywood Hogan's stable. He did not mention how he would present himself, and its possible he has yet to decide how his guise will or will not change. However...he made it clear once more that the only thing for sure about the Stinger is...

    "...nothing's for sure."

    Should be interesting folks!

    from March 23rd

No official word has surfaced concerning Sting's condition following the events of Halloween Havoc.

The "unofficial" word is that Steve Borden requested time off to satisfy his wife, who was displeased with all the work he had been putting into his wrestling career and his long periods away from home. A perfectly understandable situation, even if it is somewhat dissapointing to Sting's fans. Word is Sting will return in Febuary, and hopefully a new twist will be added.

In other news, Cinescape Online announced that Steve Borden will soon grace our screens in a new production.

    Sting Stars In Shutter

The TNT Cable network has signed a deal with WCW wrestler Sting (a.k.a Steve Borden) to star in a made-for-cable original action film called Shutter Speed, according to Variety. Sting is said to be playing "the role of a cop whose brother is also on the force", but not much else is revealed. If the film does well, TNT hopes to launch a regular hour-long TV series starring the wrestler in the same role.

Great news for Steve Borden fans eh? I really am looking forward to this film...hopefully it will be completed soon.
