LOOKING FOR LOST BIRD, a new "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentation starring Mercedes Ruehl and Jamey Sheridan, has begun production in Phoenix for broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The drama revolves around a woman who goes in search of her natural parents and, in the process, finds her long lost family and her rich cultural heritage. Her adoption was never kept a secret from Rebecca "Becks" (Ruehl), who grew up with a caring family, never doubting that she was completely wanted and loved. But her circumstances changed drastically when her adoptive mother passed away and her father married a woman who had no interest in his child. A survivor, Becks joined the Navy and later married a good man, Jack Miller (Sheridan). She and Jack now have two daughters of their own.
After her father dies, Becks decides to go on the Internet to try to find the family her father told her about when she was a child. In response to her search, Becks is contacted by a woman on a Navajo reservation who is looking for her twin siblings, who were stolen from their mother soon after they were born. As they talk, the women realize that they are sisters and that their search has come to an end.
The excitement of finding each other bridges the cultural gap between the two women, and Becks decides to take her children to meet her family on the reservation. Jack, who is just getting back to work after an accident, stays at home.
Becks and the children are welcomed with open arms and are introduced to life on the reservation. Her sister and her real father, whom she meets for the first time, begin to introduce her to the rich customs and language of the Navajo people. Becks learns to weave and to speak the native language and attempts their traditional dances. Her sense of adventure is heightened by her new-found feeling of belonging, and she is overwhelmed by the generosity of this family she's only recently come to know. But, when Jack comes for a visit, the differences between the two cultures rise to the surface and Becks must try to integrate the old and the new so that her whole family can be together happily.
