Barbara Hershey Biography

Occupation: Actress
Born: February 5th, 1948 Hollywood, CA
Real Name: Barbara Hertzstein
Also known as: Barbara Seagull
Eye Colour: Brown
Departed from: Stephen Douglas
Ex-Longtime Companion: David Carradine
Children: 1 son, Tom (was first named "Free")

Barbara Hershey changed her last name to "Seagull" (after accidentally killing one) in 1973.
She changed her name back in 1975. With her longtime companion David Carradine she has a son whom she named "Free" (he later changed it to Tom).

In the 80s Barbara Hershey "disliked" her appearance and decided to inflate her lips with collagen.

But besides all the "yuks" Barbara Hershey has given us over the years, she is a very good (and changeable) actress.
Though she started on the small screen in kitschy fare like Gidget, she worked her way up to first-rate performances in the '80s in such films as Hannah and Her Sisters and A World Apart. She also triumphed on the tube in A Killing in a Small Town and Paris Trout.

Her acting in Shy People was very convincing. She also has worked with Hector Elizondo before: in Gary Marshall's Beeches she played Bette Middler's best friend and longtime companion.

Barbara Hershey's portrayal of the artfully conniving Madame Merle in Jane Campion's adaptation of Henry James' The Portrait of a Lady was one of her finer pieces of work and earned her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination.
