|
The
Ford Explorer was the first 4 door sport utility Ford ever made. Introduced
as an early 1990 model, it quickly became the one of the most popular vehicles
in America. The first Special Service Package for police use on the Explorer
became available in 1993. The Special Service Explorer was powered
by a 4.0 litre OHV V-6, with 160 hp. It was available in 2 or 4 wheel drive.
New styling for the Explorer in 1995 gave it a sliightly less of a boxy
look. It also got a brand new suspension. For 1995 and 1996 the Special
Sevice Package was only available in 4x4 trim. Two brand new engines were
introduced for the Explorer for the 1997 model year. The first engine was
a new 4.0 litre OHC V-6, with 205 hp. The second engine was the old 5.0
litre V-8, with 210 hp, than had been used in the old Ford Mustang.
The Explorer carried on pretty much unchanged until the 2001 model year.
For 2001, the Special Service Package was also made available on the Explorer
Sport Track. For 2002 a completely new Explorer
was introduced. It also was made available with a Special Service Package. |
