In 1994, my family, fiance, and
I took a three days/two nights weekend vacation in Gatlinburg,
TN. We rented a very cozy chalet. It had one bedroom downstairs,
and two upstairs. It also had a nice stone fireplace. On the
mantel was an old black and white picture of a woman that grabbed
our attention soon after arriving.
The first night there something
really strange happened. To set things up, my parents slept in
the downstairs bedroom. I took the upstairs bedroom that was on
the front of the house and my fiance took the bedroom on the back
of the house. My fiance and I kept our bedroom doors open, so we
had a clear view into each other's rooms.
I had a difficult time getting
to sleep because the light from the moon was shining brightly
through the window, but I finally did fall asleep. But while
sleeping I kept having scary dreams that I was in this room and
there were ghosts standing all around. After waking from a series
of these dreams, I nervously glanced around the room I was in.
Everything seemed okay in my area, but something looked strange
in my fiance's room. There was a reddish glow hovering over the
foot of his bed. I rubbed my eyes thinking it was just my sleepy
eyes not focusing. After rubbing and blinking my eyes a few
times, it was gone. So I dismissed it as nothing. After a while I
fell asleep again, but woke up soon afterwards. This time when I
woke up, I was facing the window and I felt like someone was
standing behind my back. This feeling terrified me. I slowly
turned around and a movement in the corner of the room caught my
eye. I looked to that point and I saw a woman standing there! I
can only remember seeing her from the waist up and she was
transparent. She came toward the bed. She then repeated about
three times while shaking her head, "I can't fix it".
At least I think that's what she was saying. It was something to
that extent anyway (sorry, bad memory). All I knew is that I
wanted out of the room and wanted some human company! I started
to panic and she floated back to the dark corner and disappeared.
I lay there afraid to move for a few seconds or minutes. I'm not
sure how long I actually stayed put, but I finally got up and
went into my fiance's room. I woke him up and told him that I had
been having nightmares all night and I wanted him to go
downstairs with me and sleep on the couch. We did.
About an hour later I heard the
door to my parents room open and my mom came out. She didn't see
us and went into the kitchen. I went in there to see why in the
world she was up so early. She said she couldn't sleep. I told
her that I couldn't either and had been having dreams about
ghosts all night long. Excuse the pun, but she turned white as a
ghost when I said that. It seems that she was visited by the same
ghostly woman that I was. Her story is that she awoke to see a
woman float through the bedroom door. The ghost came around to
mom's side of the bed, and placed her hand on mom's right side!!
Mom said she was so scared she froze. The ghost held on to her
for a few seconds, then let go, and floated back out of the door!
Scary!!
Anyway, we both remembered the
lady was wearing a white flowing dress or gown. Sounds typical,
but that is what we both saw. Also, I do not think it was the
lady in the picture above the fireplace that I mentioned at the
beginning. We studied that picture hard the next day and I just
don't think it was her.
Nothing happened the last night
we stayed, but we had an extra guest. My younger sister had
joined us and we shared the room that last night. I always regret
not stopping by the chalet office and asking about that place
before leaving. And I DEFINITELY regret not trying to ask the
ghost what it was that she couldn't fix! I want to kick myself
every time I think about how I panicked instead of trying to
"make contact". And yes, I do worry that she was trying
to say that there is something wrong with my mom that she
couldn't fix...

Jennifers' Stories:
The Lady of the Lake
When my grandfather was a
little boy, he lived in Nova Scotia, Canada. He had lost his
mother to meningitis at a young age and was basically responsible
for his younger sister and himself for most of his childhood. On
a warm summers' day he decided to take a small rowboat out on the
nearby lake. He was accompanied by three or four of his friends
at the time. My grandfather rowed to the center of the lake and
lost one of the oars. The small boat started to tip as the boys
reached for the oar. To their disbelief, a hand rose out of the
water and handed them back the oar! My grandfather and his young
friends paddled quickly to shore and ran all the way home. When
my grandfather arrived home he told the events to his
step-mother. She believed him as he wasn't one to tell lies and
also because the color had completely drained from his face. On a
later occasion at the same lake, my grandfather was standing with
his friends on a bridge looking down into the water. The surface
of the water was interrupted by what appeared to be pebbles being
thrown from nowhere. When the boys looked closer into the water,
a womans shape appeared right under the surface. Could it have
been his deceased mother checking up on him? Nobody knows for
sure but this story has been in my family for a long time.

There is a spirit which
inhabits the house that I have lived in for the last 5 years. The
house was built in 1903-04. My parents are the 5th owners of the
house, with my family being only the 4th one to live there. We
have only the names of the previous owners, the address of the
woman that we bought the house from, and several old pictures of
the residence. As far as I know, I am the only one that has had
any direct experiences with our "spirit". It is a small
girl, probably 9 or 10 years old. I believe that she is very
quiet. She is good, as far as I know. When we moved into the
house, I always got that wierd "I'm not completely
alone" feeling. It was never a frightening, or even
bothersome feeling, just that she was there, somewhere. My first
experience with her was when I was 15. It was around 9:30 in the
evening. My family was all in the front of the house and I went
to the kitchen, which was added on to the house in 1940. I was at
the counter, getting a bedtime snack, when I felt this need to
turn around. When I did, I saw her standing just beyond the
doorway of the kitchen, looking at me. She has long blond hair,
fair skin and is very thin. She was wearing a red sweatshirt and
blue jeans. The weirdest thing was that, even though I could see
every detail of her, I could see the entire stereo system which
she was standing in front of. She was completely transparent. I
glanced back at the counter, almost involuntarily. When I turned
back, she was gone. I wasn't afraid of her, just kind of freaked
about the fact that I had seen her. A few months later, I
mentioned this to my mom. She believed me. She has never seen
her, but has also felt her. I believe that she is very quiet,
because she has never made any noise, or disturbed things. Stuff
gets moved around occasionally, but only like she wants to see
it, or maybe play with it. My sisters have never seen or felt
her, but I think this is because they are too loud and they
bother her. At a party once, my friends were using a Ouija board,
when a friend who very noisy, was told to leave the room at once
or the spirit wouldn't talk anymore. I have had only one more
direct encounter with her. I had just gotten back from a long
trip and fell into bed at about 6 am. I was just drifting off to
sleep when a soft female voice whispered, "remember".
That was all that she said. I still don't know what it means. I
know I wasn't dreaming. It was very real. I never looked to see
where the voice came from, just layed in bed, wide awake, with my
eyes shut for a long time before I fell asleep. I recently told
my mom about everything, even that I always felt something in the
attic, which is just used for storage. She agreed that there is a
spirit in the house, and that she isn't bad, she just lives
there. I plan to research the past families that lived in the
house to try to find out about her. I havent seen or heard
from her in a couple of years. I would like to see her again and
maybe make some contact with her. I would love to hear from
others.

When my Mom's father died, he
was not on great terms with the family. He had an altercation
with my grandmother and there was a pending divorce. Shortly
after the "incident," my gradfather, who drove a truck,
was in a terrible accident. The accident didn't kill him but
crushed the majority of his pelvis. He died later in the hospital
due to a blood-clot from an unexercised leg. After the wake
(funeral? I can't remember exactly) my sister an I were sitting
on my mom's bed. We were young and both my mom and dad were there
as well. We were talking about my grandfather. I don't remember
exactly what was said but someone said something bad about him.
Immediately afterwards, the reading light on my mom's headboard
exploded.
Here's another story regarding
lights. When my other grandfather died years later, we all missed
him. After the wake, we were at my grandmother's apartment
talking about him. Suddenly, the wall lamp above the chair he
used to sit in turned on. No one was anywhere near the switch.

It was November 1994. My
Husband,Daughter and Mother were staying at my cousin's house in
Wembley, London. The house was over a hundred years old. My
Mother, Daughter and I were to sleep in the lounge room up
stairs. Before retiring I said to my Mum I feel there is a Ghost
in this house as I had seen a lot of shadows and felt the
presents of some one, she said no, I disagree with you. Then we
went to sleep. I had not been asleep very long when I woke to the
movement of the feather quilt that Mum had over her. When I
looked over I thought Mum was standing at the end of the sofa
looking at a photo of my cousin's young son hanging on the wall.
I yelled out "what are you doing?" Mum replied
"what are you talking about?" Then I got really scared
when I saw my Mother still laying on the sofa. I said "look
at the person standing on your legs" Mum must have thought I
had completely gone mad. By the time she looked over, the Ghost
had Vanished. She would have been in her Twenties and wearing a
white T-shirt nightie with a blue frill around the bottom and she
was Transparent. I can tell you I was pretty scared after that
and had to sleep with the lamp on.
