I Am John my bio Wednesday, 21 May 2003 What a most wonderful day. Last night, Tuesday, I left from work and drove to Ottawa, in preparation for writing my Licensed Practical Nursing exams. The exams themselves were not cheap - in the order of $300 to write - but the "investment" in the future will be well worth it. I arrived in Ottawa about 6 pm, and found the Marriott Hotel downtown. Just a minute's walk from our Nations parliament buildings, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a walk and see them once again. ![]()
It was marvellous, memories of jogging past them in days gone by flashed thru my mind. A Mountie directed me to the statue of Sir John A MacDonald, our first Prime Minister (from Glasgow Scotland). I smiled ear to ear as I continued the walk and visited the War Memorial, raised for all the soldiers that engaged in war for their country. ![]()
A minute later I found myself on Sparks Street - a wonderful street dedicated to pedestrians. I laughed out loud a few times, while trying hard to contain my feelings of pride, joy, satisfaction and happiness with me. ![]()
I then went back to my room at the hotel. It was simply awesome. The sign at the back of the door said $300 a night, I could see why. The whole hotel was beautiful and if anyone ever asks me for info on a place to stay while in Ottawa, the Marriott will be my first recommendation. Wednesday morning I had a wake up call arranged and made my way to the Knights of Columbus Hall where the LPN exam was being held. I didn't plan this - but as I drove up the long driveway, Queen started singing - "We Are The Champions" - it was inspiring and I tried to sing along as I laughed to myself. ![]()
I believe the exams went well. In total almost 6 hours worth of questions. I am quite confident that I will pass, but won't know for sure for a month or so. I'm not worried about it though - to be this happy is prize enough. The drive home was wonderful; the Beatles sang me most of the way home. It was sunny, the car smooth and quiet. It was a good day to be alive, as they all are recently. That's it, I'm home again - back in the barracks here on base. Candles surround me; Teddy is on my bed beside Hamish, my fish "Shuggy" is quite happy and welcomed me home. He's had dinner and now I will.
