The Space Rovers -- "Rover's Peak" The scene is in the classroom aboard the Canius Minor. Calypso had just let class out for lunch. Helping her with the children today is Kenai. The kids rush down the hallway as Kenai and Calypso lag behind. CALYPSO (shouting): No running in dees halls! You might be running into someone! (looks back at Kenai): Tank ya for helping old Calypso wit dee kiddies today! KENAI (smiles): You're very welcome! I love children! Human youngsters are ok but these Rover kids are very special! (points): Take Deng and Peng for example... CALYPSO (nods): Day be very bright! Almost be workin' at a college level... just like Deon... KENAI (smiles): He's Sheena's son from the parallel universe, right? CALYPSO (nods): Dat's right, Kenai, he's almost too smart to be in me class. I tink dee Captain could train him to be a part of dee crew... KENAI (smiles): All of these children seem very intelligent. Hmmmm, I wonder how Fydo is doing in officer's training today? CALYPSO (points): We can ask him! He's over dere in dee back of dee dining hall! Soon, all of the Rover kids have gathered at Fydo's table. Calypso and Kenai take their trays and join them there. YURI (smiles): Uncle Fydo, how is the training goingski? CARLA (nods): Yesa.... please tella us all about it! FYDO (sips coffee): Well, I was in a battle simulation... I was in command and had to fight an Inzoman raider.. GRETA (happy): What happaned next, Uncle Fydo? FYDO (smiles): I had the ship go to warp and then return with all weapons firing.... we got them to surrender! TANYA (claps): Good for youski! CALYPSO (smiles): Fydo, I be proud of you, mon! FYDO (tilts chair back): All in a day's work for a Space Rover officer... Fydo tilts his chair back too far and falls over. The children all giggle as Greta and Peng help him back up DEON (laughs): Fydo's such a funny bloak! Does he do that on purpose? DENG (shakes head): No Deon, Fydo is naturally clumsy! CALYPSO (turns to Deng): Dat be not a nice ting to say mon! (turns to Kenai): Kenai... your mind seems to be wondering... KENAI (blank look, then startled): Oh! Sorry about that Lt Calypso... CALYPSO (smiles): You look scared! What be dee matter? KENAI (sadly); I was thinking back to last year, the day disaster hit my hometown... CALYPSO (nods): Ah, I remember.... Rover's Peak, you were dere when it erupted, right? KENAI (nods); Boy, that's one day I'll never forget! GRETA (turns to Kenai) You was in a volcanic eruption? BERNADETTE (turns to Kenai): Really? ANTONIE (turns to Kenai): Please, tell us about it! GIORGIO (nods); I know I wanna hear! DEON (shocked) ; Crickey! You survived a volcanic blast? KENAI (smiles): Ok, it was a typical summer day when my brother Alaska and I went up on Rover's Peak. The mountain overlooks a cano-sapien community of around 3000. My brother is a scientist and he wanted to study the syzmic readings on the volcano first hand. Little did we know that there were other scientists in the area, including a team of Space Rovers.... //////////////////// FLASHBACK BEGINS ////////////////////////// KENAI (carrying backpack): Alaska, are you sure it's safe to be up here? ALASKA (nods, carrying backpack): Don't worry sis, there's been some tremors but no real volcanic activity up here for ages. KENAI (points): Look up ahead, isn't that another team of scientists? ALASKA (looks thru binoculars): Yes, you're right! I can see the official Rover logo on their tents! Let's go over and see what they've discovered. At the Rover camp are four Space Rovers, Daisy and her sister Flash along with their boyfriends Cactus Jack and Rasputin. RASPUTIN (grumbles): We get shore leave on Earth and where do we spend it? Studying a volcano! CACTUS JAKE (upset): Hey, stop complaining Rassy! We promised the girls we'd help them with this project. Besides, we do get to spend time with our girls, right? RASPUTIN (nods): I see your point! FLASH (points): Cactus honey, will y'all set up the satelite receiver over there? DAISY (points): Rassy darlin', please give me a hand with this syzmic sensor! Nearby is Catman, in his pure panther form, looking around for wild game to catch. Having already 'missed' several deer, he was feeling very discouraged. CATMAN (to himself): I better start hunting better than this or it'll be takeout again... (looks down at the scientists) ... That's odd, what would a group of scientists be doing up here? I'll sneak in closer for a better look. As Catman slowly moves towards the group, Rasputin hears the russling and draws his laser pistol. RASPUTIN (points): Ok you, I know you're in there and ... (recognizes him): Oh! Catman! (puts gun away) sorry about that, didn't know it was you! CATMAN (telepathically): That's alright, can you tell me what's going on? At that time Kenai and Alaska now join the group, as do two Dingo scientists, Tom and Jerry. The entire group exchange introductions. FLASH (smiles): We're here to study this here inactive volcano! DAISY (nods): That's right y'all! You guys here for the same reason? ALASKA (nods): Yes we are! TOM (nods): Same with Jerry and me. CATMAN (telepathically): Interesting.. I have felt some slight changes in the ground beneath this mountain CACTUS JAKE (points) : WOW! You can talk telepathically like our Captain does! ALASKA (sternly): I have a feeling that this volcano may become active at any moment... Saying this, the ground beneath the group begins to shake slightly. KENAI (giggles): Did you time that right, brother? FLASH (looking at her monitor): Bad news y'all, somethin's movin' underground! DAISY (nods): Right sis, we may have a major eruption on our hands soon! Catman now transforms into his panther-sapien form. CATMAN (points): Barkon, Alaska, take the jeep and go warn the town! Daisy, Flash, you guys continue to monitor the mountain. I'm going to see what I can do to help... CACTUS JAKE (shouts): I'm gonin' with you, Catman! My freezing eye beams can ... CATMAN (nods): Good point, Jake! Let's go! Immediately, Catman and Cactus Jake disappear. Barkon and Alaska hop into the jeep and drive down the mountain towards down. This is when Daisy makes a terrifying discovery DAISY (shocked); OH NO!!! (points): Sis, come look at this! FLASH (nods): You're right, Daisy! There's a fissure that's about to blow! DAISY (shocked); And that's where Barkon and Alaska are heading now! Daisy frantically gets on the radio to try to call the jeep, Alaska picks up the mic. ALASKA (into mic): Alaska here Daisy, what's up? DAISY (on speakers): You have to get out of that area! There's a fissure about to open there... As she is yet speaking, the ground beneath the jeep begins to shake. ALASKA (shouts): TOO LATE!! IT'S HERE!!! DAISY (taps comm badge): Daisy to Mohawk, get a lock on Alaska and Barkon and transport them to our location! HURRY!! As lava begins to shoot up all around them, suddenly their jeep's engine dies. As Barkon and Alaska frantically attempt to start it again, the rushing lava closes in on them. At almost the last possible minute, Alaska and Barkon begin to glow and are teleported back to the camp. BARKON (relieved): WHOA!! That was close! ALASKA (relieved): Thanks, Space Rovers! RASPUTIN (nods): You're welcome, but we have to find another way to get you to town... FLASH (smiles): Why not simply have the ship teleport them there, silly? RASPUTIN (nods): Good idea! You two get ready for... JERRY (shouts): I'm going too! RASPUTIN (smiles): Alright (taps comm badge): Rasputin to Canius Minor, beam three directly to the sherriff's office in town! As the three glow and disappear, the scene switches back to Catman and Cactus Jake. CATMAN (shouts): I have an idea! That ship of yours has powerful forward lasers! (points): Mark this line along this ridge with your freeze vision and have them fire on it! CACTUS JAKE (nods): Connect the dots, outer space style! Gotcha! Cactus Jake calls up to the ship, marks the line, and takes cover with Catman as the huge laser beam cuts a deep trench into the ground. CATMAN (smiles): It's working! This is not only releaving the underground pressure, but also giving the lava a place to go when it does spill over! Back at camp, Daisy, Flash, Tom, Kenai and Rasputin frantically work to keep their monitoring equipment working. FLASH (turns to Tom): Tom, please hold my satelite dish still! I keep gittin disconnected! KENAI (smiles): Good news, guys! The town is being evacuatated! My brother, Jerry and Barkon convinced the sherriff to order it done! RASPUTIN (smiles): That's good! This thing may not be over yet... Another loud explosion is heard, echoing through the valley. KENAI (scared): What was that? FLASH (looks at monitor): Oh NO! Another volcanic eruption! This one is ten miles from the city! DAISY (shocked); NO! Catman and Jake barely got the first eruption contained! FLASH (sternly); We have to thing of something fast! RASPUTIN (on radio): I'm calling Catman and Cactus Jake back here! KENAI (looking at monitor): OH NO!! MY HOUSE!! THE LAVA GOT IT!!! TOM (sadly): I'm sorry, Kenai... KENAI (sadly): Now where are me and my brother going to live? Catman and Cactus Jake are teleported back to camp. KENAI (franticly): Guys! There's been another explosion! CATMAN (nods): I know, I could sense it in my being. CACTUS JAKE (sternly): We gotta do something! DAISY (smiling): Flash and I have the answer! FLASH (hands it to Jake): This is a time accellerator gun! Point this at the lava flow and it will harden instantly! DAISY (sternly): But be careful, sugar! Aim only at the lava flow! CACTUS JAKE (shocked): How did you ... DAISY (smiles): We just put it together in the last thirty seconds.. KENAI (surprised): WOW!! FLASH (grins): Just another walk in the park for two geniouses like my sister and I! CACTUS JAKE (sternly): Well, this will be fine for now, but we'll need something bigger than this to stop the second volcano completely! TOM (looks at monitor): Lave flow from second volcano is now five miles from the city! CATMAN (brightens): Why not install a larger model of this device on your ship? With my abilities and your smaller device, we can buy you two the time you need to get it ready! FLASH (nods): Yes! DAISY (nods): I agree, sis! CACTUS JAKE (sternly): For safety, get the entire science team back to the ship. If anything goes wrong, you'll all be safer there! FLASH (sadly): Be careful, guys! CATMAN (nods); We will! Catman and Cactus Jake disappear as the remaining members of the team are all beamed up to the ship. PERSIA (on the bridge, on speaker): Daisy! Flash! Report! DAISY (frantic); No time, Captain! FLASH (frantic): We're headin' for engineering! We have to fix a time accellerator to our deflector dish soon or all of Rover's Peak will be wiped out! PERSIA (on speakers): Hurry! Use any personnel you need to complete the task! Back on the ground. CATMAN (sternly): We have one chance, but it'll cost me a lot of my energy. I'll form a shield around this revene while you blast the oncoming lava flow CACTUS JAKE (shouts): Are you sure you can do this? CATMAN (sternly): No time for questions! Here it comes! Catman focuses his energy on holding back the flow as Cactus Jake fires the time accellerating gun at the lava flow. CACTUS JAKE (nods): It's working... CATMAN (straining): But I don't know how much longer... I can.... hold this.... FLASH (on comm): Cactus Jake! We have it ready! We need the exact coordinates to... CATMAN (tele to Flash): Gotcha Flash! Here they are, get ready to beam me and Cactus out the second you fire that thing! FLASH (on comm): Ok Catman! Jake! Stand by.... Soon, a blast is heard from above, as Catman and Cactus Jake begin to glow, the energy wave from the Canius Minor's deflector dish strikes the area. In Daisy and Flash's lab, Sophia has teleported Catman and Cactus Jake to the ship. CACTUS JAKE (shocked); CATMAN!!! SOPHIA (stunned): Momma mei! He'sa in human form! CACTUS JAKE (sternly): Help me get him to sick bay, there's no time to lose! As Cactus Jake and Sophia carry Catman to sick bay, Kenai and the others are now standing on the bridge with Persia and the bridge crew. KENAI (asking): Did it work, Captain? BARKON (shouts): And what about Catman and Cactus Jake? WHITEY (looks at monitor): It appears that we were successful in stopping the two volcanoes. Catman and Cactus Jake are in sick bay now... ALASKA (nods): We'll go see them! All of the science team leaves the bridge, except for Kenai, who is fascinated and mesmorized by all she sees on the bridge. PERSIA (turns to Kenai): You'd like to join my crew, wouldn't you? KENAI (shocked): How did you know? PERSIA (smiles): I'm a mind reader, Kenai. I have a feeling you will be a member of my crew someday... trust me on this one! Back in sick bay, Dr Sheena and Deborah are tending to Catman. SHEENA (wondering): A human! Hmmmmmm. He seems to be in a comatose state.. CATMAN (tele to Sheena): The city... did we save Rover's Peak? SHEENA (startled): What the... (smiles); Oh, you're a telepath, like the Captain! Yes, Rover's Peak is safe thanks to... Suddenly, an alarm rings on Catman's monitoring equipment. SHEENA (turns to her): Deborah! What's going on? DEBORAH (confused): The alarm went off, but all of his body functions are at normal status.. CATMAN (tele to Sheena): HIT ME!!! HIT ME IN THE FACE AS HARD AS YOU CAN!!! SHEENA (shocked): What the? CATMAN (tele to Sheena): DO IT NOW!!! Sheena slaps Catman in the face, Deborah grabs her and pins her against the wall DEBORAH (angry): Have you gone mad, doctor? Why did you hit that man? CATMAN (tele to Deborah): I asked her to do it.... and I'm glad she did.... As Deborah looks on in amazement, Catman now sits up in bed and morphs into his panther-sapien mode. CATMAN (outloud): Thank you, Sheena. That's what I needed to break out of my self induced healing trance SHEENA (smiles); You're welcome CATMAN (looks around): I am aboard the Canius Minor, right? SHEENA (nods): Yes, you are... DAISY (happy): CATMAN!! FLASH (happy): WELCOME BACK!!! ALASKA (smiles): Good work! Soon, Persia and Kenai walk into sick bay together. PERSIA (smiles): So, you are the hero of the day! I'm Captain Persia and ... CATMAN (happy): It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am! PERSIA (smiles): Thank you, Catman. You are welcome on my ship anytime! All of you are free to spend the night here. Ensign Rasputin will find you guest quarters to bed down in. We'll be serving dinner soon in the galley... SHEENA (happy): TODAY IS FISH STICK DAY!!!! /////////////// the flashback stops ///////////////////////////// KENAI (happy): And that's what happaned when Rover's Peak erupted.. VANNI (shocked): Boy, thatsa some story! DENG (sternly): Ingenious, the way Flash and Daisy invented a time accellerator.. PENG (nods): I agree, we need to borrow the symatics to study it's operation.. DEON (shouts): Half a mo! So you didn't join the crew THAT day? KENAI (shakes head): No Deon, that came later... and that's a whole other story.. YURI (excited): We want to hear that story, Kenai! GRETA (nods): Please tell us! ANTONIE (nods): We we, please tell it to us! CARLA (nods): We love-a your stories! KENAI (happy): Well, alright! It all started when the Master was looking for volunteers for a special NASA mission... In the distance, Persia, Alexander, Grunt and Saundra watch Kenai with the Rover children. PERSIA (nods): She's a natural! I've never seen these kids take to anyone like this since they first met Fydo! ALEXANDER (happy): It's good to know we have someone who can relieve Fydo or Calypso if we need to GRUNT (turns to Persia); GRRRRRRRRRRRR GROWL GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR? PERSIA (blushes): Er... well..... SAUNDRA (shocked): Commander!!! ALEXANDER (whispers): That's not a good question to ask in public, Grunt... GRUNT (sadly): GRRRRRRRRRRRR GROWL.... PERSIA (smiles): It's alright, Commander.... We all have to remember you were a cano-mutant first SAUNDRA (nods): You do have a point, Captain.. ALEXANDER (smiles): But most dogs KNOW where puppies come from.... PERSIA (smiles, takes his hand): Come with me, Commander, and I will explain it all to you... Grunt nods and follows Persia out of the room. ALEXANDER (turns to Saundra): Mark my words, Saundra, those two are going to be married someday!
