The Dinosaur Chronicles: PROLOGUE Floating around in the endless void known as cyperspace is a dinosaur, but not just any dinosaur a Computer Dinosaur, one who once tried to eat internet "cookies" with a glass of milk! How does this ten-ton long neck reptile make it in today's modern world? Well, let's find out...... Entry 1012 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Been feeling very depressed lately. Colonel Krispy gave me the week off, and I've spent it all in my cave. Since I've had time to think, my mind took a long trip down memory lane. I remembered my ex-wife and all of her lies and the divorce, and even kept wondering if I'd ever find "Dree-el" again. I spent most of the time in my Stoneback easy chair watching TV and feeling very, very sad. Nothing seemed important anymore, I felt like the loneliest dinosaur in the world. It was 8PM and I was ready for another night of the "Land Before Time" marathon when a loud BOOM!! nearly scared me out of my skin! It was my friends, The Computer Renegade, Wanna Talk and the two lovestruck canines Otto and Samantha Maddog! "Dinosaur!" the Renegade said,"where have you been? You promised to help me spring clean my basement laboratory two days ago!" "Oh, my," I said sadly,"I must've forgot." "Speaking of forgetting," Wanna interrupted,"I don't want to be rude, Dinosaur, but I've noticed your living room is very untidy and I can see from here you have a sinkful of dishes! Usually you're very diligent about keeping your cave...." "Ok, so I've been busy," I muttered with tears in my eyes,"is that a crime?" "Dinosaur," Otto said sternly,"that was an uncharacteristically rude response from you. Is there something wrong?" "I know something is wrong," Samantha added,"can't you see he's crying?" "I believe I have the answer, you hombres!" Otto explained,"my chroniclogical program tells me that it was exactly one year ago this week that CD's ex-wife flew away with her new male!" "Oh my!" Wanna exclaimed,"no wonder we haven't seen him out and about lately." "And that would explain the messy cave!" Samantha added. "Dinosaur!" the Reneagde said proudly,"I have an idea, old friend. The four of us were going to go out for the evening, why don't you join us?" "That's a great idea, dear!" Wanna said with a smile,"it'll get your mind off your troubles." "That is a splended idea, Nathan!" Otto agreed. "Mr Dinosaur, Sir," Samantha said timidly,"won't you please join us?" "I don't know," I said in hesitation,"I'm not sure I feel up to an outing, y'all. Besides, I wouldn't want to go without a date." "Already solved that problem,"Otto said,"your date will arrive any second, I radioed her approximately 20 seconds ago." BOOM!!!! Standing before me dressed to the nines was the Computer Counsellor! "Dinosaur," she said as she walked toward me,"I'd be more than happy to go with you on this fine evening!" "Counsellor," I said softly,"you're a wonderful person, thank you!" "Otto's message said you were depressed, old friend," the Counsellor said calmly,"I agree with Nathan that you need a night out!" "OK, what are we waiting for?" the Renegade said as he reached for his black box. "Please, allow me to do the honors!" Otto said as with one loud BOOM!!! the six arrived at their destination. It was a beautiful place! A beach with lots of palm trees all around! It seemed a bit deserted, I could see a few people moving around in the distance. "Where are we?" the Counsellor asked. "This is a remote resort island near Hawaii!" the Renegade said proudly,"Wanna and I have been here a few times, it's a very peaceful and restful place!" "Just what the doctor ordered!" the Counsellor said with a smile. "Sure is a wonderful place!" I said happily,"and those palm trees look delicious!" "Settle down big guy!" Otto said with a chuckle,"Nathan, where do you suggest we dine?" "We always eat at the Tropical Terrace Restraunt in town," Wanna said,"it's an outdoor Parisian style restraunt and it's not far from here!" "On boy Oh boy!" I stated excitedly,"I can hardly wait!" The six of us walked to the restraunt, at first the manager seemed rather reluctant to serve two dogs and a huge reptile, but that's when he recognized me from all those Colonel Krispy snack TV commercials, so he got us a large table with a view of the ocean. He also took quite a few pictures of me and had me sign his autograph book. Really made me feel good about myself again! We all had a wonderful dinner, everyone had steaks except me, I 'loaded up' on salad! When we asked for the bill, the owner proudly informed us the meal was 'on the house,' wasn't often they had a celebrity in their restraunt he said. It was at that time that Otto gentlely nudged the Renegade and asked,"Now?" The Renegade nodded. The Renegade got up and bowed on one knee in front of Wanna, Otto got up and stood beside of Samantha. They asked their question in unison to their lady loves, "Will you marry me?" Wanna didn't wait for Nathan to produce the ring, she jumped out of her chair, hugged Nathan tightly and shouted,"I thought you'd never ask!" Samantha Maddog reacted a little calmer, simply saying softly to Otto,"yes, I will Otto!" It was a very touching moment! The Counsellor and I were so happy, we both cried! "This is so wonderful!" the owner of the restraunt exclaimed, "let's here it for the happy couples!" Everyone in the crowded establishment clapped and cheered! Once more, the owner took out his camera and started clicking away! It was a very special evening! Not only did I have a great dinner at a fancy restraunt, but I got to see my friends propose to each other! The Counsellor took it upon herself to begin planning the wedding, all four insisted that they'll have a double wedding ceremony! Didn't get back to the cave until dark, the Counsellor came with me and insisted on helping me with the housewoirk! We talked for a while over tea and then she went home. It was a great night for me, I was beginning to feel better about my situation. I was happy for my friends and happy to be a part of a historical night in the Tropics!
