The Dinosaur Chronicles: PROLOGUE: "Lost in Cyberspace" is a dinosaur, but not an ordinary dinosaur, a Computer Dinosaur! One who thinks a "hard drive" is when you take a car through the mountains! How does this Stone Age survivor do in the modern era? Well..... Entry # 314 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Today was a very special day! I have all of Prairie Mason's "children" spending spring break with me! It's so cool the way all of them call me "Uncle Dinosaur." These young canines sure do mind their manners, too. They don't even fight as much as most brothers and sisters do, and they actually LIKE my cooking! I decided to take them to the park and spend the day there. Perfect weather, sunny, uncloudy, gentle breeze blowing. As I sat on a monument and read my newspaper, the four Mason "kids" were playing with two human friends they'd just met. Alice, Allen, Anita and Alexander were enjoying playing fetch and frizzbe catching with Betty and Joey Smithers, twin ten year olds who were at the park that day with their grandmother, Lady Hortence Smithers. Lady Smithers was very prim and proper, and ran over to her grandkids when she saw them playing with the Mason "kids." "Betty, Joey!" she called out sternly,"come here this instant!" Betty, Joey and the four dogs all ran over to Lady Smithers. "I surprised at you two, playing with these filthy looking dogs!" the grand Lady scolded, "now you dogs shoo, go away, bad doggies!" "We're not dirty, ma'am!" Alice said. "Yeah, our uncle made us all take showers with morning," Alexander explained. "You dogs have no business playing with my fine grandchildren," Lady Smithers said sternly. "But grandma," Joey begged. "These dogs are friendly!" Betty pleaded. "Don't talk back to your elders!" Lady Smithers,"now you miserable mutts go away!" Slowly Alice, Alexander, Anita and Allen all walked away from their new found friends. "Now, you two stay right here while I go get us some cotton candy," Lady Smithers said as she walked down the sidewalk toward the cotton candy stand two blocks away. As the four Mason children were walking toward me, Anita perked up her ears and said "hey, do you hear that?" "Yes, I do!" Allen said quietly. "Sounds like two men talking," Alexander added. "And they're nearby, the voices are coming from that van over there," Alice observed. The "kids" sharp canine ears were hearing every word being spoken by the two well dressed men in a blue van that was very close to where Joey and Betty were standing. "Hey, look, there's two children, all alone," the one shadowy figure said to the other. "Yeah, if we act fast, we'll have them!" the other replied. As both men stepped out of the van and walked toward the two unsuspecting children, Anita barked,"cmon, we've got to stop them!" as the dogs turned around and ran toward the two well dressed men. The men were offering Joey and Betty candy to get into the van. "Joey, Betty, don't go with them!" Allen yelled out. "These men want to kidnap both of you!" Alice barked loudly. "Shut up you stupid mutts!" one of the men screamed as he grabbed Betty and Joey by their wrists and said "you two are coming with us!" Anita ran with all her might and threw herself into the man's chest, causing him to release the two children before the force of the impact caused him to fall backward. Shouting "ramming speed!" as he ran, Alexander jumped on and knocked the other man down to the ground. All four of the canines surrounded the two men, growling and barking at them. That's when I finally noticed what was happaning and ran over and sneaked up quietly behind the two men. One of the men produced a knive and said "OK, ENOUGH, YOU'RE ALL COMING WITH US!" "I don't think so!" Allen said calmly,"there's a dinosaur standing behind you!" "Yeah, there's a big dinosaur standing behind you!" Betty said excitedly. "You kids must think we're stupid or something!" one of the men grumbled. It was then that I used my tail as a whip and smacked the knife right out of his hand and far, far into the air. Then I turned my long neck down and around in front of the two men and said,"there really is a dinosaur behind you!" The two men were so shocked at seeing me, they passed out! It was then that I spotted Sherrif Wyatt Burp's car driving by so I flagged him down. "Dinosaur!" he said excitedly,"what happaned here?" "These two men tried to kidnap all these kids," I said,"these dogs stopped them and they even pulled a knive on all of them, I better go find it for you, I think you can take it from here, sir." So I started looking around behind the van, I thought that's where it landed. Looking at the two men, passed out on the ground, the Sheriff said,"Wait, I know these two, they're wanted criminals! Ok, you two are under arrest" The Sheriff had the cuffs on them quickly as Lady Smithers came running and said,"Officer, what did these mangy mutts do to my grandkids!" "These fine canines stopped them from being kidnapped!" Sheriff Burp said defensively. "That's right, Grandma!" Joey said excitedly,"they knocked them down!" "And then their friend came and scared them so bad they fainted!" Betty added. "Well," Lady Smithers said apologeticly,"it appears I was mistaken about your doggie friends." She turned to the dogs and said,"Thank you all for saving my grandchildren, I'm so sorry about all the things I said..." "It's OK, ma'am!" Anita said. "We just didn't what those two men to take our friends away!" Alexander added. "Hey, we're man's best friend for a reason!" Alice interjected. "Beside, we could've done it without Uncle Dinosaur!" Allen said. "Yeah, the dinosaur really helped us!" Betty said. "A dinosaur?" Lady Smithers said in wonderment,"oh, you children sure have an imagination!" "No ma'am," the Sherrif replied,"it was the dinosaur who helped stop these men!" "Oh, don't tell me you believe in dinosaurs," Lady Smithers said to the Sheriff. That's when I stood up from behind the van and said softly,"I believe in dinosaurs!" As she turned and saw me, Lady Smithers screamed, and then fainted! As everyone gathered around her, I said "was it something I said, y'all?" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End of Entry.
