Background:

Started in 1956 as "Ares Medical" by Robert Birk. Main focus was prosthetic R&D and manufacturing. Their slow initial growth was followed great growth during 1965-1970. Ares Medical kept its prosthetic focus until Robert's death in 1971. Robert's son, Daniel, took over the company in 1971 and, perhaps due to his father's death, began a slow restructuring of the company. Following several years of recruitment and restructuring, Ares Medical officially became Ares Security in 1973. Using medical identification technology developed at Ares Medical, Ares Security intially began providing security for small, local companies. These inital contracts usually included both equipment installation and on-site personnel.

Over the next few years (1973-1980), as their presence in the security community grew tremendiously, they changed focus from a security provider, to a security consultant. This was perhaps due to their extremely aggressive recruitment policies aimed at recruiting and retaining highly-skilled and highly-specialized operators from various civilian, government, and military communities.

During this period, several offices all over the globe were opened, with the assistance of several large corporations and governments. Influence turned global, as many of the corporations Ares contracted for were multinational, and international facilities were needed to adequately and effectively provide support for these companies. While still producing security equipment and maintaining several sizable security forces (in several geographical areas), most of their current contracts are with large multinational corporations to help establish security protocols at new sites, as well as to provide security consults at existing sites.

Usually, several consultants from Ares Security establish the security at a new site, and then remain to assist with the day-to-day operations. Most of the time, the bulk of the security personnel will be recruited from within the contracting company or from the general public. By leaving the mundane details to the company's personnel, the remaining Ares consultants deal with the high-level operations only and interfacing with the high-level executives. These individuals are often responsible for new-hire training and the protection of high-level excutives in special cases.

Ares also maintains several teams of security personnel stationed strategically around the globe to provide for any additional support for contracting companies. These teams are also available for short-term contracting of operations in support of the local government, such as anti-terrorism and security operations.
