Location:Seattle, Westopolis. Aztechnology Archology. September 18, 2040.
This report details the events of October 15, 2040 in and around the Aztechnology Archology, as well as on the Global Net at large. The mission was to locate, discern the quality of, and co-opt the Runner known as 'Spydr' into becoming a COINe member in the collective. Her assimilation would add valuable biological and mental traits to the collective. Erik Casper reporting as the field agent on site, and with sole mission responsibility.
It started with the six members of Sanic's team sitting, waiting for their next mission, in conference room 882 at about 0800. Sanic sat in mute contemplation at the head of the table, his right hand person sat in that exact location; Kelly Lee would deliver the briefing as usual. To his left sat Sergeant Austin Chase, the large if somewhat dim-witted killing machine. On Lee's attractive asian right sat Evelyn Hope. At 5'-4" she was a blond bombshell that specialized in counter-intelligence. On Sgt. Chase's left sat the young, beautiful, and deadly Nancy River in her hot, tight, pink, monocrys lined mini-skirt. I was the last one to roll in the room on my Mono-Wheel Chair and took the last spot at the table opposite Commander Sanic.
Lee briefed us. The mission was to prevent Spydr from killing members of the Aztechnology Board. The board meeting was scheduled for 2000 hours that night, giving us just twelve hours to prepare, execute, and caputure or detain her. Other teams, as well as each board member's personal security team, were to be responsible for the rooms and charges security, but we were to be countermeasures. The hunter of the hunter.
Lee informed us that Spydr had sent an email to the board notifying them that none would leave the meeting alive. The nineteen members that live and work in the Aztechnology building were distressed, so were the eleven members that live abroad and must commute to the meeting. We were also given a file on Spydr, the various jobs, stunts, and hits she had pulled off, as well as Aztechnology's limited background knowledge on her.
After a brief question and answer session the team went into motion. Chase and River were given orders to locate and identify all modes of ingress and egress from the board meeting room. Kelly Lee went about searching for leads on Spydr and her contacts. Hope looked over all the old interviews with contacts of Spydr's known and suspected associates, and then went on to set up a security sensor net that was independent of the Aztechnology Computer control networks. She utilized other assets for the job and worked with incredible drive. I remained in the mission room with Sanic and went about locating electronic information relevant to the case.
First, I ran searches to corrolate any links between Spydr and specific members of the board or their operations. This went to give her motive, but it came up with nothing other than past jobs/hits she had done against them. These were done for no other visible reason than to show she could do them. They were classic harrassment jobs (e.g. stealing their cars, leaving fuzzy dice on rear-views). Next, I ran searches to see what else I could find out about Spydr. This proved much more enlightening. Her personel files had been sanatized by Aztechnology and it turns out that she is an ex-employee of their's that is quite disgruntled. This gives her some motive, but it more bent towards embarrasing them. All her previous escapades have only been along the lines of a nuisance, and none have been violent. Not even the shooting of a gaurd. The one exception involved her, some Security Force persuers, a propane tank, and Tyler Sanic's squad.
In almost a dark commedy, Sanic's team were stationed or waiting beside the propane tank (a large above ground propane tank), Spydr cruised by in a stolen car and made the turn, her persuers didn't and careened into the tank, detonating it. The blast killed all persuers, all of Sanic's team, and blew off his arms. They are now bionic additions, and the physical manefistation for his hatred and drive to see her brought to justice (i.e. killed). This made Sanic my primary obstacle in co-opting Spydr to the collective.
I continued in my search to locate background information on Spydr, and compiled a small mountain of it. None of it though pointed to her turning violent towards the board. It did show connections to a local muscle man, and ganger that routinely used force to accomplish his objectives. This seemed too obvious, but I informed Sanic anyways, and he set Kelly Lee on checking into this fellow.
Around this time, a miscommunication in the board room where Chase and River were still looking around escalated to gunfire. Some of her spunk got her in trouble and left Rivers crippled with a shattered femur. None of the accounts of the event even remotely improve my opinion on Security Force Solo's, and in fact lower them a large degree. River would spend some time in the infirmary, and then complete the mission with a brace on and crutches.
After Sanic returned to the mission room with Kelly Lee we hatched the Big Plan. Circumstancial evidence pointed to Evalyn Hope as being a mole. Her service record over the last three years was perfect, and she continually seemed more interested with the security of the board room than in capturing Spydr. With this in mind, we set about creating a fake board room meeting. Messages were carried in person on paper and then destroyed. Security for the charges was notified to go to the original room, while all other non-essentials were eliminated from the loop. Hope went about setting up more security around the new location and used Chase as a test rabbit to determine if they were set up well. I am unaware of what Kelly Lee did during this time but approximately 1530 hours Sanic received a call from her.
She told him there was something in the women's bathroom on level 22 he should see, the bathroom nearest lift 50. The boardmeeting was on level 60, so they took an express security lift down and investigated. River was with him, for what reason I don't know. They found an unconscious lady in Lee's clothes, but not her own and with all of Lee's electronic items. I had been using the items to track members of the team. This meant Spydr was in a new disquise, and had slipped all my methods of tracking her.
Commander Sanic responded remarkably well for a man posessed that just found out his foe and quarry was within his grasp for the last six months. He calmly notified security, the ruse would fail, set about moving security back at the last minute to the 'old' meeting site. He also informed the team that Spydr was in the building, could look like Kelly Lee, and that the 'new' site had been a ruse. Hope was a little pissed off, but when I explained she had been suspect and we had left her out for security reasons, she calmed down a little. Sanic also went on to make several good decisions when infuriated, this leads me to believe that he will be a long term foe for Spydr whether or not we co-opt her. He ordered females off of all security details, and all men under five foot six. This neutralized Spydr's ability to pass as a member of the details. He then suggested that to command that all non-essential personel be removed from the adjacent two floors within a six corridor area. This neutralized her ability to slip in as a waiter or an aide.
As 2000 hours approached, things became tense. I was monitoring security real time on the Net, and using runners to plug gaps in the security net using paper messages that were sent to the guards. All proved for naught, because the meeting came and went. At about 2330 hours Sanic received a phone call from Spydr that said she was outside the Arch, had enjoyed the game, but still could not understand why he hated her. I traced to call to a cell outside the arch, and Sanic, Rivers, and Chase all boarded a helicopter to chase after her in a final act of futility. In a half hours searching they only found a shut off cell phone in a dumpster.
That concludes the report on subject 83RT314. Mission success not attained. Secondary mission of finding a suitable candidate still in progress as Evelyn Hope seems to have many of the qualities desired for the collective, but situations did not arrise in the short twelve hours to do a suitable interview.
