The Gods are very important to the people of the world. Each region originally had its own gods, usually one or two gods per region, known under diffrent names at the time. Bhall has ruled for centuries in Imaskar. Selune was the primary god of the Oilluskans, and their calander had 13 Lunar Months originally. Waukeen held sway over Midani and the Sword Coast south. But with the spread of the Chondathan empire, their mythology has spread throughout the world, and most others will only be found in the oral tales of bards, or in dusty manuscripts. The Condathan religion held that Lathander created the world from the bits of the sun when it rose on the first day. From the sun the moons, stars, planets, and rest of the universe sprang. Lathander greeted the other Gods as they sprang into the world after he had created man. The other gods sprang from the mightiest humans, and all serve him. But the Black Three (Myrkul, Bhall, Bane) began the great schism, and split about half of the gods away from Lathander, in the ancient past. There was a great war in the heavens, and the world burned, but even elf historians do not even record the event other than how it is passed down from the gods. There is some conflict on what order the humans and non-humans entered the world, elves, dwarves, even gnomes and halflings are not fond (or are outright unwilling) to admit that the human god Lathander admitted their gods into the world. After Lathander, the second most powerful human god is Selune, goddess of the moon who trails him across the sky for all time. After her is Mystral, goddess of magic, as signified by the second fast moon.

Below on the list are two of the Dragon Pantheon, because they are the only two worshiped by humans. The other dragon gods will not grant spells to human followers, though cults exist, especially along the Dragon Coast. Bahamut is a protector of humans because evil dragons ravage them and their lands frequently. Tiamat takes human followers because the only thing better at killing dragons than dragons is humans, and she cares far less about them.

Each of the evil non-human races also have gods of their own, but rarely is a pantheon more than a pair of gods. The one exception to this is the orcs, who have a pantheon of between eight and ten gods. Humans aren't quite sure; orcs don't talk about it, and they don't take human worshipers.

A few changes of note:

  • Gond is neutral good.
  • Oghma is neutral good.
  • Silvanus is Neutral but his priests or druids cannot be.
  • Tempus is Neutral but his priests cannot be.
  • Waukeen is neutral good.
  • Dumathoin is neutral good.
  • Gnome gods are all neutral good.
  • Persons can only be a cleric to a god of their race unless appropriate Drawbacks are taken.
