Colorado Native

R. arkansana - a Colorado Native

The blooms on my hundred or so seed grown R. arkansana come in a variety of shades of pink - from almost white to a deep pink and repeat sporatically throughout the summer. It's not uncommon to find a bloom right along side some cherry red hips.

They are low growing plants, usually reaching about 12 to 18 inches. There are usually 9 to 11 leaflets, which are turning purple and red (as do many if not all of our native roses). The hips are about 0.5 inches, round, smooth and red. The stems are covered in thin bristles. In the spring, the blooms are appear singly or in groups of 2 or 3. The plants spread via suckers, sometimes traveling five feet under weed barrier before popping up to the surface.

They are very drought tolerant, doing quite well with only what they get from the rainfall in this semi arid climate.
