Hippolyte produces lots of deep magenta/purple blooms in the early summer all along long canes. The very round, full blooms are quite fragrant.
The bush is currently about 5 feet wide and 4 feet tall and looks like it'll get bigger in the future. The long, arching canes are rather smooth, not having nearly the thorns that some of my other gallicas have and are quite different from the short, upright canes of these other gallicas. It is quite cane hardy here, with almost no winter dieback.
This plant is on its own roots.
