Red Grootendorst has the typical extremely thorny canes, wrinkled foliage and large red hips of Rugosas. Quite winter hardy. It blooms all summer long in clusters of small two inch flowers that have serrated edges to the petals. These serrated edges make the blooms look very much like those of a carnation. Unfortunately it doesn't smell like a carnation. It doesn't seem to smell at all.
