Rosa Glauca

Rosa Glauca

Rosa Glauca is a species rose that produces tiny, one inch, bright pink single flowers early in the spring. I grow her, not for the flowers, but for the foliage and the hips. The foliage has a very obvious reddish caste to it, which was indicated in the old name "Rosa Rubrifolia". The foliage turns even redder in the fall. I guess people figured the greyish tint to the foliage was even more obvious, so the rose was recently renamed Rosa Glauca. It produces a great abundance of orange/red hips in the fall which look wonderful against the reddening foliage. I hope to have some fall pictures here in the future.

So far, my bush is about 5 feet tall, but I expect it to get up to 8 feet eventually. It is *very* prone to suckering.
