Dr. W. Van Fleet

Dr. W. Van Fleet

Wichuraiana Hybrid

When I obtained this rose, I knew nothing about it other than it was described as a climber with pink blooms. It was brought to Colorado from the Boston area, by someone who said it grew all over back there. After growing it for a few years, I find it to be a lovely, very very vigorous ramber that blooms once a year with pale pink, lovely flowers. By very vigorous, I mean that I find that it has traveled horizontally through its neighboring roses at least 15 feet. The canes are very lax, traveling over the ground or into other roses, where it mixes its blooms with those of Darlow's Enigma, Choris and Leda. The foliage gives away its wichuraiana ancestry, with its small, very shiny leaves. The pointed buds open into flowers that have an almost hybrid tea form. The color is a very light soft pink, and the petals are almost translucent which gives them a silken quality.

Dr. W. Van Fleet gave sport to the repeat blooming New Dawn, which other than being able to repeat bloom, is similar to it in every way.

This particular plant was obtained from a friend who rooted it from a cutting, so it's on its own roots.
