Our holiday had began for a month. During this one month break I was planning to go to Gunung Ledang, but at the moment my friends told me to come over to Taiping's Maxwell Hill for a "warm up". Since I have some time to be in Taiping again, so I planned to go there once again. Yes! I did it to be there once more! This time I went there together with Aik Chong.

On 29 October 2001 early in the morning, I woke up and got ready myself to climb the Maxwell Hill. I washed my face and have a light breakfast at Dhenson’s home. I brought along 500mL water, and 2 packs of the biscuits to climb the hill. After we sent King Kong’s mum to work, we went to a photo shop to buy a quick snap camera. Because there was none of us had brought along the camera. We paid RM22 for the quick snap camera. Later, we were at the downhill of the Maxwell Hill and waited for Sam and Hiong Weng to come. At 10:30am they reached there and we started to climb the hill at 10:35am.

Before we started our journey to go up the hill, we snapped a photo. (pic on the top) Five of us, from right: King Kong, Aik Chong, I myself (J-E), Sam and Hiong Weng were in the first photo. King Kong suggested us to climb the hill by using the short cut. As I like challenging, so I agreed with him and we had chosen the short cut route to climb. At first I felt that it was very nice, but after we had climbed for about 15 minutes, Ai yah! I felt very tired and so to the others too. We took a rest for about 5 minutes then we continued to climb. On the way, we saw an old man was climbing with an umbrella and he climbed none stop, till he gone to the end of the short cut. But we all the youngsters still do not have the stamina like him. We had stopped for few times and we felt so shameful to ourselves. But we were proud that we went up there as teamwork. We supported each other physically and mentally. At the main time we had a lot of fun while we were on the way up to the top of the hill.

After sometimes we reached the end of the short cut. We saw a group of the old men had fun and had their lunch there. But we just took a rest then we continued our journey to the top of the mountain. We did not eat lunch at that time is because we were very tired and didn’t feel hungry. From there, we started to walk on the road track. It was much easier to walk compared to the beginning of the journey. Starting from here we took a lot of the pictures and started our conversation with all the jokes. Hi hi ha ha! On the way up to the hill we found a few waterfalls. On the first waterfall, we emptied up 2 of the bottles of the drinks then fill up with the mineral water from the waterfall. The poor thing was that we forgotten to take down the picture. On the walking journey we saw a few jeeps kept on moving up and down to fetch the tourists to the top of the mountain and to the downhill. At that time we really felt the pollution of the air from the car engine.

Tea Garden

We enjoyed sideseeing; we took the picture of the city of Taiping. We also enjoyed looking at the flora and fauna on the hill. Until we reached the Tea Garden, then we took a rest. As far as I knew that we had hike for 5.8 km and the high from the sea is 659m. Then we kept on going till we reach another waterfall. Again we took another time of the mineral water from the waterfall. This time we won’t forget to take down the picture anymore. Just a few meters from the second waterfall there was another waterfall, which is very beautiful. But the water was not for drinking. So I just climbed into the waterfall and took one of my individual pictures. Is been a very long journey to go up

there. When we almost reach the Hotel on the mountain the rain started to fall on us. We jogged as fast as we can towards the hotel. Before we reach the hotel there was a stand for us to stop there. At there we had our lunch with the biscuits that I had brought in my bag. We waited until the rain stopped then we started our journey to the hotel and we took some of the pictures over there. Actually some of them wanted to stop there but I refused to cause there were still a little bit more to reach the top of the mountain. According to King Kong said, we only need 15 minutes more to reach the Telekom tower. So we kept on going…

Ooh I C. Now only I know that the top of the Maxwell Hill there was a hotel and to continue to the highest hill is Caulfield Hill but Maxwell Hill. So to reach the Telekom Tower we need to climb another 3 km more to reach there. From there we started to see the miss and we felt the cooling weather. At the end, we reached the Celcom tower and we took some of the photos there. Only King Kong, Aik Chong and I were there but Sam and Hiong Weng were few meters away from us. We didn’t manage to go up to the Telekom Tower, Hi ya! And it was already 3:47pm cause we were late to fetch King Kong’s mom at 6pm. Just after taking down the photos we started to walk to the downhill. When we reached the Hotel we had a rest and some of us went to the rest room. At that time, King Kong found his leg was bitten by a leach. He had no experience on it, so he just used the car key to take it out. Later I also found my leg was painful and I crèche it. I found there was a leach on my leg. I used my sliver to take of the leach. As I was looking at one of the leaches on the floor, there was another leach was biting my right leg. Again I used my sliver to remove it. After we took a 15 minutes rest then we continued our journey. From there we were 1065m away from the sea level. Wah Lah wei! 1065m away from the sea level.

As soon as we passed the Hotel, Ci la kak! The rain kept on palling on our head. All the way we were wet. We were rushing to go downhill to fetch King Kong’s mother. On the way to the downhill, King Kong started to play water then followed by Aik Chong. We took about 2 hours and 45 minutes to reach the downhill. By the time that we reached the downhill was already 6:26pm. In the hurried, we didn’t snap any of the photos anymore and we leaved the Maxwell Hill quickly. And this was the time that I farewell with the Maxwell Hill.
