When Rachel Colclough, wife of Benjamin, died Christmas of 1748, she left a will naming Alexander and some siblings as children of her daughter Elizabeth Bowling.
Some believe that it is written in such a way that Alexander might be William's son by another wife. The way I read it, it seems to me that Elizabeth is Alexander's mother. If you want the wording of the will, I will find it and give it to you.
Do you have anything on Martha Patsy Williams' parents? I think they are Benjamin & Sarah williams of So. River Parish, Ann Arundel Co. MD; but this information is quite sketchy.
This is my wife's family, and the puzzles are many. We are hoping some day to trace William Bowling back to Thomas who came to VA on the "Swan" in 1610. It does look promising. A very good researcher with the Bowling Association is apparently a part of this family and has been very helpful.
I am trying to determine the connection between the Colclough / Webster / Webb /Parr families of Rappahannock Co., Va. John WEBSTER gave cattle to Elizbeth COLCLOUGH daughter of George COLCLOUGH -"out of natural affection I beare unto Elizabeth COLCLOUGH, dtr of George COLCLOUGH deceased. (Feb 1687/8 Essex Co., VA) (Was Mrs COLCLOUGH the daughter of WEBSTER and was this Elizabeth his granddaughter?)
John Russell, b. ca 1730, unk loc., but a resident of Granville Co, NC in the mid 1700s. His wife is said to be Elizabeth Colclough. John and Eliz. (Colclough ) Russell's children: Abner (my gg grandfather, b ca 1765, Elizabeth, Sarah, John C., Amelia, William D. and Anna Russell, all born in Granville Co., NC. Can you confirm that an Elizabeth Colclough married John Russell
I descendend from James B. Mitchell, Jr thru his oldest son, John C. Mitchell. They settled in Cheatham Co TN, where they died. James B. Mitchell Jr m Nancy Ann Colclough on 11/20/1778. The DAR has Elizabeth Bromfield as mother of James Mitchell's children in TN. Can anyone tell me what happened to the James B. Mitchell, Jr who m Nancy Ann? Is there another one from the same area? Oral tradition was that James and his two oldest sons moved with my Walker ancestor, Hardwick Walker (2nd), and settled Cheap Hill (Cheatham Co TN)which was Robertson Co TN at that time. W. Ray Walker rwalker@relico.com
Newton Colclough was in Warren Co.,Tnn. in early 1800's. Does anyone know anything about any Newton Colclough/Coakley/Cokley anywhere? Melissa

On 3 Feb 1687/8 "judgment is granted to James WEBB against Phillip PARR as Securitie of Richard CARTER as marrying the relict of George COLCLOUGH for six hundred pounds tobacco & caske... Later PARR filed for guardianship of CARTER's minor children. In PARR's will he refers to (younger) Richard CARTER as his loving kinsman.
It seems there are lots of William/Margaret descendants posting messages but not from the their son Samuel that married Ashby Holloway; Samuel that married Sally Crouch; Zachariah that married Martha Pardue; James L. that married Angoline Rawls; Zachariah that married Cordiella Stanley.
I have lots of info on Colclough, Pardue. Some info on Stanley, and Rawls but little of Holloway, none on Crouch. With the Durhams I am not sure that I have the 2 Samuels birth dates correct. I know of only 1 child that Zachariah and Martha Pardue had, James Littleton

I only found out this evening that my husband's oldest-known BELL ancestor, Andrew Lewis Bell, b. 1804, NC, MAY have been the son of Charles BELL and Mary COLCLOUGH. (Andrew's brothers were James, Simeon and Zechariah.). Would very much appreciate any information you may have to either substantiate or disprove Charles Bell and Mary Colclough as parents of Andrew Lewis Bell and his brothers
Linda Moore <benlinda@flash.net>
We believe my husband is a descent of Benjamin Colclough through his daughter, Sarah, and John Kidwell. While documentation on the Kidwells is plentiful, we haven't been able to find anything on Sarah Colclough. It seems to be accepted that our Sarah is the daughter of Benjamin, but we would like to document this, too. Rob and Jane Hybarger <jhybar@yahoo.com>
My grandfather's given name was Coke, and that name was seen throughout the descendants of William S. Kelly, b. Ireland 1739, d. 1824 Franklin Co., TN and Mary DURHAM. Mary was the daughter of William Durham and Margaret Colclough, dau. of Benjamin Colclough. William S. Kelly had a son, Benjamin Colclough Kelly who died 1815 in Franklin co., TN. Benjamin Colclough Kelly, Jr. was mentioned in Wm. Kelly's will. Family lore has it that the widow and child returned to her family and contact was lost. nharvey@meta3.net
I'm the first son of Richard Levan Colclough born in Sumter South Carolina. For a period of time I was unaware of the origin of my name. In the South Carolina The name is spelled Colclough, but is Pronounced Coakley. "Richard L. Colclough" <colclough1@juno.com>
Charity Colclough, daughter of Robert Colclough (hung in 1757 at Williamsburg). She was the second wife of my gggggg grandfather John Cross. I am guessing that they were in Stafford County, Virginia, but at this time I have nothing to prove that. I believe that they were married between August 1757 and July 1763. Susan Cross Srdce@aol.com
I am seeking the ancestors of Margaret Colclough. Margaret was married March 29, 1760 to Henry Alexander Foote (confirmed w/marriage records). Margaret's parents were William Colclough and Mary Rogers/Rodgers (conf.m. December 30, 1741). William's parents were Benjamin Colclough and Rachael/Rachel ??? Margaret is my 4G Grandmother. Any information you can provide with this or collateral lines will be greatly appreciated. I would also appreciate knowing what sources might have more info on the Colclough line <jgebee@ix.netcom.com> Judith Bling
My Colclough line connects to the FOOTE line from VA and from Cardenham,Cornwall, Eng. and a Richard Foote, Sr.,b.10 April 1632 and married toHester Hayward 19 Dec. 1657. This Richard Foote was the son of John Foote(b.bef.1620). Hester Hayward was dau. of Nicolas Hayward and Elizabeth.{Information I have on Hester Howard (sic) of Lenord's Sjprdocj, spr. COLCLOUGH, machinist in the engine room of the blast furnace of the North Chicago rolling mills, of South Chicago. Mr. Colclough has charge of repairs. He began work in this department in the spring of 1882. He was born in England January 7, 1844. At a suitable age he served an apprenticeship of seven years as machinist in North Staffordshire. He then ran a machine shop of his own and did general work. In 1881 he came to America and settled at Pittsburgh, Penn., where he went into the employ of the American Iron Works as machinist until he came to South Chicargo. Here he assisted to adjust the blowing engines for the converting mill, and has been at work for this company since. He is a member of the Steam Enghine-Makers' Society of Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1871 he married Miss Salina Beardmore, a native of North Staffordshire.
My pet site Ancestralquest.com came up with the following when I put in Julia Stribling's name. Wonder if this is accurate? I guess a note to Deborah Bowman (dabowman@earthlink.net) would be a good idea. JOEL STRIBLING married HESTER RACHEL COLCLOUGH on 25 Sept 1723. Joel died on 19 Mar 1737/38 I would say 1738 as Margaret was born in 1738. Hester was probably pregnant at the time of his death). They had the following children: JOEL STRIBLING +COLCLOUGH STRIBLING HESTER STRIBLING b: 5 Apr 1732 BRADFORD STRIBLING b: 11 Jan 1735/36 MARGARET STRIBLING b: 4 Nov 1738 COLCLOUGH STRIBLING married FRANCES MARTIN? 6 Oct 1749. They had the following children: JOEL STRIBLING b: 11 Mar 1752/53 +BENJAMIN STRIBLING JOHN STRIBLING b: 5 Jan 1759/60 SUSANNA STRIBLING b: 27 Apr 1764 THOMAS STRIBLING b: 22 Oct 1766 MARY STRIBLING b: 16 Feb 1768/69 He married then MARY HODGE BENJAMIN STRIBLING married ANN TIBBITS. He was born 15 Jun 1756. They had the following child: +JOHN STRIBLING JOHN STRIBLING married LUCY DEHONEY. They had the following child: +JULIA STRIBLING
