- Sony announced their third quarter results, the sales have increased by 48%. In the videogame section, the sales profit has reached 66.41 billion yen, increased by 62.9% from last year, this is achieved by a reduction in manufacturing cost of the PlayStation 2, and an increase in both software and hardware sales. Over 5 million units of PlayStation 2 were sold worldwide in December 2001. However, sales for PSone are declining; a total of 1.03 million units of PSone were shipped in the quarter, comparing to 3.69 million units last year.
- UNCONFIRMED: Eolith announced a PlayStation 2 port of the arcade fighting game The
King of Fighters 2001, the PS2 version will be coming out in Japan in July.
- Sega-AM2 announced Aero Dancing 4: New Generation for PlayStation 2,
the latest sequel of the popular flight shooter.
- Sony has postponed the release of their PlayStation 2 RPG Popolocris Story III by 3 months, from
March to June 20, the game will retail for 5800 yen.
- Namco / Monolith Soft's PlayStation 2 RPG Xenosaga Episode 1: Der Wille zur Macht
will be released in a dual layer DVD-ROM, instead of 2 DVD-ROMs as originally planned. This makes
Xenosaga to be the first console game to use the dual layer DVD technology. Xenosaga is scheduled
for a February 28 release in Japan, for 7800 yen.
- UNCONFIRMED: Bandai is planning to port their PC online SRPG title Gundam Network Operation
to XBox.
- Konami of America announced a new Dance Dance Revolution title for PSone, called Dance Dance Revolution
Konamix, which will feature a collection of tracks selected by fans in a poll.
- Eidos Interactive announced a new brand named Fresh Games,
which specifically devoted to bringing high-quality Japanese game titles to the worldwide
market. Fresh Game will kick-off its line-up with Mister Mosquito, Mad Maestro!,
and Legaia 2: Duel Saga for PlayStation 2. Mister Mosquito is Sony's popular mosquito simulation
game "Ka"; Mad Maestro is Sony's "Bravo Music", an orchestra conductor music simulator; and
Legaia 2: Duel Saga is Sony's sequel to the popular PlayStation RPG with fighting game oriented battle
system.
Sony announced that they will launch the Korean version of PlayStation 2 on February 22, for
358,000 won (approx $270 US). 14 titles will be available at launch.
