Prue Halliwell woke to the
sound of her alarm clock early Monday morning.
"Ugh, school," Prue dreaded.
She got out of bed and went to the bathroom to take a shower. After
she was done she went into her sister's, Piper, room. "Get up sleepy
head!" Prue said loud enough for her to hear.
"What? It's already Monday?"
Piper said groggily.
"Yeah, and that means get
out of bed, go take a shower, and wake up your little sister when you're
done."
"Yes mom!" Piper said jokingly
"Ha Ha, hurry up I don't
wanna be late and you know Phoebe's going to take forever," Prue said.
"Ok, Ok I'm up." With
that Piper sauntered off to the bathroom. Prue went downstairs to
go see what her Grams was cooking for breakfast.
Prue was the eldest of the
Halliwell sisters and often had to play mommy to her little sisters especially
to Phoebe. Their mom died when they were really young and Phoebe
never even got chance to get to know her. Prue resented playing mom
because she also wanted to be a teenager and go to parties and hang with
her friends on Friday nights. Instead she spends her Friday's helping
her little sister, Phoebe, with her homework. She didn't even know
the point of doing it since nothing can get passed Phoebe even if you say
it a million times. Prue was surprised that Phoebe got into the eighth
grade without flunking all her other grades. Her other sister, Piper,
was no problem because they were very close. Piper often had to play
the mediator between Prue and Phoebe so they won't kill each other.
There was about 2 months of school
left and Prue would be going to college next year. Grams wouldn't
even let her go away to college because she wanted her to be close to home
in case one of sisters needed her. Prue wanted to become a photojournalist
back east but instead she had stay home in San Francisco.
Life was pretty bad for Prue, not
only couldn't she go away to college but she also was planning to break
up with her steady boyfriend, Andy, because he was going to Portland instead
of staying home and she knew that long distance relationships never work.
She could also tell that he was going to break up with her for the same
reason but they haven't said anything yet.
While Prue was mulling over a bagel
thinking of what to say to Andy and what to do with her life, Piper and
Phoebe walked in the kitchen.
"You know somebody could've left
some hot water for me in the shower!" Phoebe complained.
"Oh, Phoebe quit your whining!"
Prue said.
"Shut up Prue," Phoebe shot back.
Prue was about to say something but Piper interrupted.
"Ok guys, calm down."
"Yes, can you girls please not
have a fight this early in the morning," Grams pleaded.
"Sorry Grams," Prue said.
When Grams turned around, Phoebe stuck her tongue out at Prue. "You're
so immature."
"Prudence!"
"Sorry, ok we gottta go."
"But I haven't even eaten breakfast,"
Phoebe complained.
"Well that's your problem, we gotta
go."
"Grams!" Phoebe whined
"Phoebe just do what your sister
says and Prue don't forget to bring Rasputon to the vet when you get home.
When they got outside and out of
earshot, Prue and Phoebe continued their little fight.
"God, why do you have to be so
annoying?!" Prue said.
"I wonder where I get it from!"
Phoebe shot back
"Guys, can we just get in the car
and go to school?" Piper said. She was wondering if she had to do
this for the rest of her life, always being in the middle of her two sisters.
Then again, she was born in the middle.
Prue dropped off Phoebe at her
Junior High and drove her and Piper to their high school: Baker High.
"So any ideas what you're going
to say to Andy?" Piper asked as they got of the car.
"No, I don't want to break up with
him, but I know in the long run we'll end up hurting each other," Prue
said solemnly.
"I know Prue, but you cant keep
holding it off, you even said he looked like he was going to break up with
you too, so it's either you break up with him or he breaks up with you,"
"Can I break up with him after
prom because I need a date."
"Prue!"
"I'm just joking, plus prom is
like still a far way to go, I can find somebody else to take me."
Piper slaps her on the arm. "Kidding." The bell ring and they
went to their classes.
Prue went to her class and saw
Andy saving her a seat.
"Hey Prue, over here," Andy called.
Prue took a seat next to her boyfriend. "So, how was your weekend?"
Andy asked trying to start a conversation.
"It was good, besides trying to
tutor Phoebe and getting yelled at because she got a bad grade. I
mean how is it my fault that she got a bad grade?"
"Well, you said that Phoebe's stubborn,
and your Grams blames you ëcause you were the one who was suppose to be
teaching her,"
"I still don't get how it's my
fault, I mean I'm not the one who took the test, and why are you taking
her side your suppose to be my boyfriend!"
"Calm down Prue, I was just kidding,"
Andy said in defense.
"Sorry, I've just been really stressed
out lately. I mean at home and next year at college. I just
get so frustrated." Not to mention I'm also going to break up with
you. Prue thought.
"Prue, we really need to talk."
"I agree."
"You do?"
"Um yeah," Ok so now he's going
to break up with me maybe it'd be a lot simpler. Prue thought.
"Ok, how about Friday after school
we'll go to the swing,"
The swing! Why would he want to
break up with me at our spot! Is he trying to make me feel bad! No,
no it'd probably be simpler that way I guess. "Ok, sounds good."
"Great, then it's a date,"
"Yeah a date," Prue said hesitantly.
The bell rang and class began.
*********
"Prue!" Piper called at the end
of the day.
"Yeah," Prue said turning around
facing her sister.
"So, did you talk to Andy?"
"Uh, actually yeah," She started
to put her books in her book bag.
"And,"
"We're gonna talk on Friday," Prue
said glumly while putting her last book in her book bag.
"Is that a good thing or a bad
thing?"
"I don't know. Both I guess,"
"Both?"
"Well good because we won't hurt
each other in the long run, and bad because how much it's gonna hurt missing
him," Prue was almost in tears. It was really odd seeing Prue cry
because she hardly showed her feelings to anyone since their mother died.
She hasn't even said "I love you" to anyone since their mom died.
"Prue," Piper said her voice filled
comfort.
"Um sorry," Prue quickly turned
around and wiped away a tear. "Ok we gotta go, we still gotta pick
up Phoebe and I need to take Rasputon to the vet,"
Prue and Piper drove to Phoebe's
Junior High and waited for her to get out of school.
"Everyday is the same," Prue commented.
"What's the same?" Piper asked.
"Phoebe!" Piper gave her
quizzical look. "Everyday she takes forever to get out of school!
She like takes 50 years to get her books that she doesn't study from, she
talks to her loser friends, then she goes to the vending machine to get
food, and finally she leaves. She gets out at 3:15 when schools over
at 2:45!"
"Ok Prue, I know you're a little
stressed, but calling Phoebe's friends losers isn't very nice, also you
were the one who told her to bring all her books home so you can help her
study,"
"I know but that's before I knew
she was this stupid!"
"Prue!"
"Sorry, God I am so stressed!"
Prue put her head down on the wheel. Just then Phoebe came into the
car.
"Hey guys, sorry I'm late,"
"Yeah what else is new," Prue said
angrily. Piper nudged her slightly.
"How was school?" Piper asked trying
to ease the situation.
"It sucked, I got another D on
my math test. Miss Wills is so stupid I should've gotten a C,"
"Miss Wills isn't the one who's
stupid," Prue began. Piper gave her the eye. "Why do you think
you should have gotten a C?" Prue tried to calm down.
"Well, she marked me off because
I didn't put like the negative signs and stuff like that. I got the
other part right."
"Well, she had to mark you off,
when you get to high school you'll completely flunk," Prue tried to explain.
"Yeah whatever,"
Prue gripped on the steering wheel
trying to maintain her patience. My God, when she going to learn
that school matters in her future Prue thought. Like she didn't have
enough problems in her life, Phoebe makes it worse.
"Grams, we're home!" Piper called.
"Oh good, Prue I need you to make
dinner tonight and watch your sisters because I have a meeting at Phoebe's
school that somebody forgot to tell me," Grams said looking at Phoebe.
"Oops,"
"Can you remember anything?" Prue
said annoyed.
"It's not any of your business
anyways!" Phoebe yelled back.
"It is my business if I'm stuck
here, and if I have to tutor you because you're failing school,"
"Girls please! Ok Prue, after you
take Rasputon to the vet go straight home and make dinner. I'll be home
late because I'm going out with some friends after the meeting,"
"Yeah sure," Prue said exasperated.
"Don't use that tone with me young
lady," Grams said sternly.
"Sorry Grams, ok we'll see you
later," Prue kissed her grandmother.
"Bye girls," She kissed each of
her granddaughters and when she got to Piper she whispered something to
her. "Make sure they don't kill each other, ok"
"Sure Grams,"
"Ok bye. Phoebe, do your homework
and Prue help her out," Grams left.
"Ok you little brat, go upstairs
and do your homework and when I get back you should be half done.
Understand?"
"You can't tell me what to do,"
"Oh yes I can because if you don't
I'm gonna be-"
"Ok, Ok," Piper interrupted.
"Phoebe just go upstairs and do your homework,"
"Fine," Phoebe went upstairs.
"God, how do you put up with her?"
"Prue, she's just a kid.
Take it easy on her,"
"Why does everybody say that? ëPrue,
she's just a kidí My God, I know that, and she acts like being a kid is
the biggest burden. She doesn't know how lucky she is. I
wish I can be the kid and run away from my problems,"
"Prue, I didn't mean-"
"No, it's ok I'm sorry, Ok I'm
gonna go I'll be back soon," Prue grabbed Rasputon and went her way.
Piper sighed. She knew Prue
was in a stressed mood but now she's just becoming mean. Piper was
afraid sooner or later someone is going to push Prue over the edge and
she might have a breakdown. Piper decided to go check on Phoebe.
She went upstairs and knocked on Phoebe's door.
"Come in,"
"Hey,"
"Hey Piper,"
"How's your homework going?"
"Piper, can I ask you a question?"
"You're avoiding mine," Piper said
jokingly.
"Piper, I'm serious,"
"Ok, what?" There was a long pause
before Phoebe spoke again. "Phoebe?"
"Why.. Why does Prue hate me?"
Piper was surprised with that question. She never knew Phoebe felt
like Prue hated her.
"Phoebe that's ridiculous Prue
doesn't hate you,"
"Really ëcause she surely acts
like she does,"
"Phoebe she's just stressed.
I mean with school and with Grams not letting her go away to college.
And you missy are adding to that stress," Piper said jokingly. Phoebe
smiled a little.
"I don't mean to stress her out
it's just... I dunno it's just I'm stubborn I guess,"
"That's the thing you two have
in common," Piper laughed to herself.
"Hey! Can I tell you something
and you promise not to tell Prue?"
"Cross my heart,"
"When Prue tutors me, I get half
the stuff she's talking about some of the time. I just pretend not
to get it so she can spend more time with me. Even though she's mad
half the time," Phoebe said looking down.
"You want Prue to spend more time
with you? I thought you couldn't stand Prue telling you what to do?"
"Yeah I know, but she's not gonna
be around a lot next year and I just want to spend more time with my big
sister even though she hates me,"
"Phoebe she doesn't hate you for
the last time,"
"Ok ok but she still hates being
around me, and I can tell by the way she acts around me. No argument
there,"
"JustÖ give her some time,"
*********
Friday came sooner than Prue expected.
Prue was so nervous meeting Andy after school. She had to do it or
else she'll end up breaking her own heart. It was Friday morning
and Prue was just staring at her cereal when Grams interrupted her thoughts.
"Prue, can I talk to you on a serious
matter?"
"Uh, sure. What's up?"
"It's Phoebe," Prue rolled her
eyes dramatically. "Prudence this is serious,"
"Ok, what?"
"When I went to the meeting on
Monday night, her teachers said that she's been acting up a lot.
She's getting into more and more fights, she's disruptive in class, plus
if her grades don't go up she'll have to repeat 8th grade. Her counselor
said what's causing this is because she doesn't have a strong mother or
father figure. Grams paused for a short while. "I don't want to do
anymore." Then suddenly a thought occurred to her. "I want
you to talk to her,"
"Me? Why me?"
"Because you are the closet thing
she has to a mom,"
"Me? What about you?"
"I'm her grandmother. She
always thought of you like a mom."
"Fine I'll talk to her, like she'll
listen,"
"Prue, I'm asking you to do me
a favor, please,"
"Ok fine. I gotta get to
school. Piper! Phoebe! We gotta go!" Great now I have another
thing to worry about today Prue thought.
The drive to school was so quiet,
not even the radio was on. Finally Phoebe broke the silence.
"Ok, did somebody die?"
"What?" Piper asked.
"Why are you guys so quiet?
You haven't like spoken a word since we left the manor,"
"Well I'm not in a talkative mood,"
"Ok Prue what's your excuse?"
"What?" Prue was in a daze.
She didn't even hear her sisters talking.
"Why aren't ya talking?"
"There's nothing to talk about,"
"What? Is Andy not satisfying you?"
"Phoebe you know what? Andy
and me are none of your God damn business so what don't you keep mouth
shut. I had enough of your shit!"
"Prue!"
Prue violently swerved into the
parking lot of Phoebe's school. Phoebe quickly got out fear of Prue
doing something. Once Phoebe was out of the car Prue put her head
down on the steering wheel and was breathing intensely.
"Prue, what the hell's wrong with
you?!" Piper almost screamed.
"I can't take this anymore Piper,"
Her head still down.
"Take what anymore?" Piper was
starting to get scared. Could this be the breakdown that Piper feared
would happen?
"Today. My God I haven't
even been awake an hour and my stress level has like sky rocketed,"
"What are you talking about?"
"Grams told me that Phoebe might
fail school and she is doing really bad in conduct. She wants me
to talk to her,"
"SoÖ"
"Like a mother would to her daughter,"
"Oh," Piper knew that Prue never
actually wanted to take the responsibility of being the mom but it was
sort of a given. She knew Prue always tried to avoid being the mom
at all cost. She saw Prue growing up and wanting be a normal teenager
and have a regular childhood. This might just push her over the edge.
"Plus, I have to meet Andy after
school,"
"Ohhhh, for ëthe talk,í"
"I just don't know what to do anymore
Piper," Now that scared Piper. What did she mean by that?
"Do me a favor take the car after
school and pick up Phoebe. I'll take a cab home. I think I'll
be too sad to drive," Piper knew what she meant by that. Prue and
Andy would probably be broken up by the time Prue got home.
"Sure,"
*********
Prue hardly paid attention in her
classes. She just kept looking at the clock dreading every time the
second hand would pass. She tried her best to avoid Andy. When
she saw him walking down the hall, she'd turn the other way. She
wouldn't sit any where near him in their classes or she'd wait last minute
to get to class so there wouldn't be any seats left but the front.
She didn't want to do this but she had to, at least that's what she believed.
When the final bell rang, Prue
quickly got her stuff and went for the swing. When she got there Andy was
already waiting there with a smile on his face.
God, I'm really gonna miss his
smile. Prue thought.
"Hey I didn't think you were gonna
be here I didn't see you all day,"
"Yeah, sorry I was um, busy," Prue
lied.
"You didn't take your car," Andy
noticed. "You walked all the way here, you must be tired. Come sit down
Prue," Andy insisted.
Prue took a seat on the swing next
to Andy. They just sat there in silence neither one knowing what
to say. Finally they spoke at the same time.
"Prue,"
"Andy,"
"You first," Prue said.
"Um, ok. Prue," Andy began.
"We've been going out for 4 years now and we've known each other since
forever," Oh no here it comes Prue thought. She was gripping on the
chain of the swing waiting for the inevitable. "But lately we've
been growing apart. You know with school and everything next year," Andy
paused for a moment looking at Prue trying to read her face. "But
when I'm with you, I feelÖ What I'm trying to say isÖ You make me feel
special andÖ Oh screw this. Prue I'm trying to tell you thatÖ I love
you,"
Those words hit Prue like a ton
of bricks. She never expected that to happen. She was so stunned
she couldn't even blink.
"Prue?" Andy said a little scared
Prue wasn't saying anything.
"Wh-what?" Prue finally came out
of her daze.
"I love you Prue," Andy said again.
"No, no," Prue was panicking.
Every time she said, "I love you" to anyone they always seem to leave
her. Her mom, she said "I love you" to her and she died after that.
When their dad left them, the last thing she said to him as he walked out
the door and their life was "I love you." Prue was scared to death
of falling in love. It brought nothing but pain to her.
"No?" Andy said confused.
"You-you can't,"
"I can't love you?! Prue
this wasn't the reaction I was expecting. I say ëI love youí and
you say I can't!" Andy was almost hysterical.
"No Andy, I-I can't sorry I-I just
can't," Prue managed to stammer out.
"Prue," Prue started to walk away.
"Prue!" Prue managed to get away from Andy and into a cab.
"Where to miss?"
"Anywhere but here,"
"Uh, you need to be a little more
specific, ma'am,"
"The park," Prue watched from the
rear view mirror as Andy was looking for her. She was relieved he
didn't see her go into the cab. How can this be happening she thought.
This just kept on pushing Prue to the edge. Eventually she would
fall.
The cab stopped at the park and
Prue got out.
"Uh, miss?"
"Yeah,"
"The fare,"
"Oh," Prue reached into her purse
and realized she only had enough money for one cab ride. That meant
she had to walk home from the park. Either that or hitchhike.
Prue gave the cab driver the fare
and went off to the direction of the bike path. She just kept walking
around in circles and thinking. She was thinking about everything
in her life: Andy, school, family, friends. Everything. It was starting
to get late so Prue decided to head back home. It was going to be
a long walk anyways.
When Prue got home she knew
Grams would yell at her for not coming home right a way. It was almost
7:30 when she got home. Prue went through the back door by the kitchen.
She saw Grams cooking dinner and Phoebe doing her homework.
"Prudence where have you've
been?!" Grams practically screamed.
"Sorry I must have lost track
of time when I was with Andy,"
"What were you guys doing?
Screwing each other?" Phoebe said with a laugh.
"Shut the hell up!"
"Prue! Phoebe don't
use those words in this house and don't talk to your sister like that Prue,"
"Sorry Grams," Phoebe apologized.
Grams moved in a little closer
to Prue so Phoebe was out of earshot. "Prue, I want you talk Phoebe now.
She got into another fight in school and got a D on another math test.
I think right now would be the appropriate time to give her some encouragement,"
Prue couldn't take it anymore.
All she wanted to do was go home, eat as much of junk food she could, go
to bed, and have herself a good cry. She didn't want to play mommy
to Phoebe.
"No," Prue said with confidence
and defiance in her voice.
"Excuse me," Grams said surprised.
"I said no, it's not my fault
she's dumb as post," Phoebe looked up when Prue insulted her.
"Prudence! What is
the matter with you? Apologize to Phoebe right now,"
"No. You know it's true.
Phoebe is nothing but a worthless dumb bitch! She'll never amount to anything
in her life. She wouldn't get an A to save her worthless life!
"Shut up, shut up SHUT UP!!!!!"
Phoebe screamed. Tears formed in her eyes for she had never been
hurt so bad in her life, especially by her own sister. She pushed
her chair back and stormed to her room. Grams winced at the sound
of the Phoebe's door slamming.
"Prudence what the hell is
the matter with you?! What gives you the right to treat your little sister
like that?"
"I just can't take it anymore
Grams! I can't be everything everyone wants me to be. You want
be to me perfect, Andy wants to me the perfect girlfriend, Piper wants
me to be the perfect sister, and Phoebe wants me to be her mom! Doesn't
anybody care what I want to be?! I wanna be me. I want to go to parties
on weekends, I want to hang out with my friends after to school, I wanna
go away to college. I wanna have my own life! And everything's holding
me back. I feel like I'm suffocating here. I can't stay and be Phoebe's
mom forever!" Prue was so stunned with her own words that she didn't know
what to do so she just left and went to her car and started driving.
She didn't know where she was going but she just needed to get out of there.
Grams never knew Prue felt
that way and she felt so guilty for putting so much pressure on Prue. Although
Grams was still a little dumfounded with Prue's outbreak she felt proud
that Prue maintained to be strong under all that pressure and putting up
with all her nagging.
"I'm so sorry Prue," Grams
said to no one.
Piper heard everything from
the other room. It happened. The breakdown Piper feared finally
happened. The words that were said to Phoebe were so harsh and she
didn't know if Phoebe was ok. Piper knew Prue was strong and she'd
get herself together eventually. Right now she was worried about
Phoebe. She decided to go check on her. Piper got to Phoebe's
door and she heard muffled crying. She didn't bother to knock she
just went in. Phoebe was hunched in the corner of her bed, back facing
the door, and hugging a teddy bear that Prue gave her on her 3rd birthday.
"Do you believe me now when
I said she hated me," Phoebe said through sobs.
Piper got on Phoebe's bed
and rubbed her back. Phoebe turned around with her red puffy eyes
and laid her head on Piper's lap.
"Phoebe she was just angry.
You have to understand Prue's been under a lot of pressure and something
just pushed over the edge. She didn't mean what she said you know
that," Piper was trying to reassure Phoebe while she was stroking her hair.
"But the words she said were
so horrible but they were all true,"
"Phoebe you are not stupid
and don't think for a second you are," Phoebe sniffed and just nodded her
head. She was too hurt to argue.
**********
Prue stopped her car and
got out of it. She had no idea why she came to this place.
She hadn't been there in so long. Prue welled up the memory of the
first time she was here.
Flashback
"Mommy, where are we going?"
a four-year old Prue asked.
"To a special place sweetie.
I have to tell you something," Patty answered her daughter.
"But it's so early Mr. Sunny
isn't even awake yet," Mr. Sunny was the name Prue called the sun.
"Yes, but we're going to
the place where Mr. Sunny sleeps so we can see him wake up,"
"Really?" Prue's little blue
eyes sparkled.
"Yes,"
Patty drove them to a high
promontory where you could see the beautiful city of San Francisco and
the Golden Gate Bridge.
"Wow," Prue commented. "It's
so pretty. Is this where Mr. Sunny sleeps?"
"Right over there," Patty
pointed to the horizon.
"Is he gonna wake up now
mommy?"
"He will but first I want
to tell you something important,"
"Important?"
"Yes sweetie, do you know
why mommyís tummy getting big again?" Prue shook her head so hair was shaking.
"Well mommyís going to have another baby girl. That means you are
going to have another baby sister,"
Prue's eyes filled with excitement
at the mention of new sister. "Really?"
"Yes, that's why I took you
here so I can remember that little look on your face. Also I wanted
you to see Mr. Sunny wake up," The minute Patty said that the sun began
to rise and Prue stared at it in aw.
Present
Prue remembered that day
like it was yesterday. This was the spot her mom took her and only
her so she can see the sunrise. She also told her that she was pregnant
with Phoebe. Prue remembered how excited she was at the thought of
a new sister. Prue felt so guilty for saying those things to Phoebe
and she had no idea how to make it up to her.
"Oh mom I'm so sorry," Prue
began to speak. "You must be so disappointed in me. I tried to make you
proud and to be the perfect one but I couldn't. Look what I said to Phoebe.
How am I ever going to get her to forgive me? I tried my best to help raise
her and I did a horrible job. She thinks I'm the biggest jerk, she hates
me, and she's always acting up. If you were here she wouldn't be like this.
I'm sorry mommy," Prue said in a childlike voice. For once in a long time
Prue began to cry.
Patty heard everything Prue
said. She was standing right there. "You can never make me disappointed
in you. You did your best and I'm so proud of you. Be patient with
Phoebe she'll come around and she doesn't hate you. She thinks you're the
best person in the world but she has a funny way of showing it. I'll always
love you Prue," Patty reached over and put her hand on Prue's shoulder.
Prue didn't know it but she still felt comforted and stopped crying. She
wiped away her tears and just looked at the city with the lights illuminating
the night sky.
"Thank you mom," Prue whispered.
It was about 3 a.m. when Prue
got home. She quietly went upstairs careful not to wake the sleeping
manor. She got to her room and saw Rasputon sitting on her bed.
"Rasputon get of my bed,"
Prue said in a whisper. Rasputon just whined and didn't move. Prue smiled
and just sat on her bed petting his head. "You love me don't you?" Prue
said to the dog. Rasputon just rubbed his head on Prue's lap. When she
finally got him off her bed Prue just laid there thinking. A thought occurred
to her. She got off her bed and slowly made her way to Phoebe's room. She
slowly opened it careful not to wake Phoebe. She saw Phoebe bundled
up in a blanket and hugging the bear she gave her on her 3rd birthday.
Prue looked at Phoebe and notice how young she looked all bundled up like
that. She also saw her tear stained face. Prue hated when her
sisters were hurt especially now since she was the cause of Phoebe crying.
Prue gently ran her fingers through Phoebe's hair and putting it out of
face. She kneeled down next to Phoebe and shook her slightly.
"Phoebe sweetie wake up,"
Phoebe slowly opened her eyes unaware of who it was.
"Mommy?" Phoebe said. She
thought she was dreaming. Prue smiled.
"No it's me Prue," Phoebe
woke up more quickly now she knew who it was. She quickly pulled her blanket
over her head.
"Go away,"
Prue couldn't help but smile
because Phoebe was acting like such a kid. "Phoebe get up we're going somewhere,"
Phoebe took the covers off
her head. "Where?"
"Somewhere,"
Phoebe looked at the clock.
"It's 4 a.m. I'm still sleepy and why would I want to go anywhere with
you," Has Prue lost it? Phoebe thought. Why does she want to take me anywhere
right now.
"Come on Phoebe we have to
go. Don't get dressed just put your shoes on,"
Phoebe just gave up and tiredly
sat up and put her shoes on. Phoebe was about to stand but Prue just lifted
her and carried her. Confused but still tired, Phoebe just put her head
on Prue's shoulder and drifted back to sleep.
Prue put Phoebe in the car
and started driving. The sun was going to rise in about an hour and
she wanted to be there before then. She wanted to recreate the moment
14 years ago.
Phoebe woke up half way there
and just looked confused. "Prue where are we going?"
Prue smiled. That was the
same thing she asked. "Somewhere special, you'll see,"
"Oook," Phoebe just looked
outside the window. It was still dark out and she was wondering what possessed
Prue to drive her so early in the morning to a "special" place.
Was this her way of apologizing?
If it was this is a weird way.
Prue stopped the car when
they got there. "Here we are," she said as she got out of the car.
"Here is where?" Phoebe asked
as she followed Prue. She was starting to get scared. What has gotten into
Prue?
"Come here," Prue reached
out her hand to Phoebe.
Phoebe reluctantly took it.
What she going to do? Push me off the promontory?
"Look," Prue showed Phoebe
the view. Phoebe's eyes were filled with wonderment as she looked at the
city of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge.
"Wow, Prue why did you take
me here,"
"Ready for your history lesson?
About 14 years ago, mom took me here,"
"Oh,"
"She wanted to show me the
place where Mr. Sunny slept and I wanted to see him wake up,"
"Mr. Sunny?" Phoebe said
confused.
"Mr. Sunny was the name I
gave the sun. I wanted to see the sunrise," Prue clarified.
"Oh,"
"This also the spot she told
me she was pregnant with you," Prue smiled at Phoebe.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I was so excited.
To top it off I saw the sunrise and it was so beautiful. I always remembered
that day ëcause mom took me,"
Phoebe was stunned it was
very unlikely for Prue to talk about their mom especially to Phoebe let
alone take her to the spot she had the best memory with mom.
"Prue this is yours and mom's
spot. Why did you take me here?"
"Because I wanted to apologize.
Plus, it's not only mines and mom it's yours also. You were there, you
just didn't know it,"
"Oh, I forgive you," Phoebe
said with a smile. Phoebe always forgave easily and that's what Prue loved
most about her.
"You must hate me,"
"No I don't hate you I think
you're the best big sister in the world. Also the best mom," Prue smiled
and hugged Phoebe. "So when is Mr. Sunny gonna wake up?" Phoebe joked.
Prue laughed. "In a few minutes.
Andy told me he loved me,"
Phoebe was shocked. Now she's
talking about her relationship. "He did? What did you say?"
"I didn't say anything and
that was the problem. I just stood there and didn't speak. I could see
the hurt in his eyes as I walked away,"
"Well do you?"
"Do I what?"
"Do you love him?"
"I don't know but he probably
hates me right now,"
"He doesn't hate you he loves
you, you just told me yourself. I think he'll understand. You guys are
so young to even be thinking of falling in love. You guys would make up
and be together again. You guys would probably be marrying each other in
the future. I always thought you would,"
"When did you learn to give
such good advice?"
"I learn from the best,"
Phoebe looked at Prue. "Everything turns out all right in the end
and if it doesn't it's not the end," Phoebe smiled and she saw the sun
starting to rise. "Look," Prue turned around and saw it. They just stood
there watching the sunrise. This spot was so special now to Phoebe.
20 years later
Phoebe stood at the spot
where and Prue stood watching the sunrise 20 years ago.
"Well Prue you did end up
with Andy. I hope you're happy," she said looking up at the sky.
"Mommy, where are we?" Phoebe's
4 year old daughter asked.
"Well, Prue we're going to
watch Mr. Sunny wake up," She named her after Prue.
"Really," Phoebe lifted up
her daughter as they both watched the sunrise.
"Thank you Prue for being my mom,"
The End.
