Time and Time Again

Author's note: For one, I hope that you all enjoy this story of mine. I have decided to do something that not many people seem to do too often, but writing (and creativity in general) is about personal style, so here is mine. I have decided to include a cast list in order to help you visualize my characters- these are all famous actors and actresses. I would like to point out that Charmed, nor none of its existing characters are my property, and I do not have any personal connection neither with the actors chosen to portray my characters nor any of the cast of Charmed. I would like it to be made clear that this story is written with the best intentions for fans, and that there is no copyright infringement intended. I would like to dedicate this to my family, to Kris & The WWC, as well as all the actors and staff at Charmed.
I would also ask (please do not take this to offense) that I do not want this Fan Fic to be posted on any site other than The Wonderful World of Charmed without expressed permission from the author who can be reached at Mkw2k@yahoo.co.uk. Could you also let me know what you thought of this? I hope you like it! This episode is set just after "Muse to my Ears". Merry Xmas everyone!

"What are you doing?" Piper cautiously asked Phoebe as she entered the attic. Paige was sitting in a nearby chair watching Phoebe, who was hastily flipping through the Book of Shadows, obviously trying to find something. This naturally made Piper nervous, although thinking back on it she couldn't remember anything Wicca related happening in the last few days, so what on Earth was Phoebe doing? "I am looking for a spell" was the cryptic reply. "Well, duh!" thought Piper. An unsatisfied witch asked Phoebe again, this time she received a clear response.
"What you said to me the other day, about not everything we saw in the future coming true, well it got me thinking"
"And?"
At this point Paige chimed in. "So she is looking for the spell to take us into the future so that we can see exactly what is going to happen."
Piper became slightly irritated at this point; she was fed up having to be the voice of reason every three seconds. "Phoebe, we could only use that spell once remember, which we did. It's been erased from the book".
"I've already thought of that" Phoebe enthusiastically responded "We were sent back to the present by ëthemí before the whole thing started, which means none of it really happened... Ah ha!" She had found the page she was looking for- To Visit the Future.
Phoebe and Paige began to make their way over to the table where the ritual had already been set up.
"Sisters- this isn't a very good idea" Said Piper.
"Why not?" Paige pouted- she was really looking forwards to going into the future.
"Because, we have no reason to go to the future. Last time we went was to find out why Phoebe was burnt at the stake. This has personal gain written all over it."
Paige gave Phoebe a defeated "she's got a point" look. Phoebe on the other hand, stood resolved. "I don't care! We've been through a lot lately and we deserve a treat. They won't mind!"
"So- what do you say?" Paige asked innocently, almost like she was a five-year-old trying to cute her way out of trouble.
"Well, I don't really have much of a choice now, do I?" Piper sighed and joined her sisters.
"Yay! Right, we've decided to go twenty years ahead- 2021. Lets go!"
"We're all gonna be in our late forties. I hope I stayed looking young!" Said Paige.
"Hear these words, hear the rhyme" Began Piper as Phoebe set light to the paper with the date December 17th 2021 written upon it.
"We send to you this burning sign" Continued Phoebe.
"Then our future selves will find" read Paige.
"In another place and time" Piper, Phoebe and Paige said in union. The spell was complete.
"Here we go again" moaned Piper as the three of them disappeared in a bright white array of ëorbsí.

A large group of ëorbsí entered the living room of the manor, and entered the body of a woman that was sleeping on the sofa. Future Piper slowly awoke and stood up. "Déjà vu" she mumbled. She slowly made her way to the mirror in the dining room and gasped at her own reflection.
Piper's appearance had changed dramatically. She had short hair that fell only to her neck. A patch of gray ran through it, a scar of the years gone by. A few lines had appeared on her face, a mixture of stress and age. Piper discovered that she was wearing a long cream dress complete with a brown shawl. She looked down at a digital clock on the mantle, which read 10.00am.
"Oh my God- I'm only 49 and I look like Grams!" She groaned to herself.
"Em- Piper?" Called Paige from another room. She came running in to join her sister.
Since Paige was only 45, she looked a lot younger than Piper did- infact, she basically looked the same. She had long, jet-black hair that she wore up, albeit loosely. Her face looked exactly the same, not a wrinkle or blemish in sight! Her clothes had become almost gothic- a long black dress with a thin lace sweater, also black. Her high-heeled shoes clomped on the ground as she walked, the large silver Celtic cross that hang around her neck swayed with each movement.
"How cool is this?" she asked Piper.
"Cool? I look like one of the Golden Girls and you've stayed looking like a 21 year old!"
"Piper, you do not look old. You are only 49, besides, you look just as gorgeous as ever."
Piper smiled slightly; Paige had really got the hang of cheering her up.
"Thank you" She mouthed.
"The manor doesn't look that different to me" Observed Paige. "I wonder where PhoebeÖ"
The door flew open and in stormed Phoebe. She too didn't look all that different. Her hair was thick and came down to her waist. It had become dark brown again. A few lines had appeared next to each eye, but other than that, she remained looking just as she always did. She wore a long, blue denim dress that had shiny silver buttons right down the middle.
"Speak of the devilÖ" Began Piper. Phoebe suddenly blurted out,
"Guess who I bumped in to!" She stood aside so that the doorway was clear, and in walked a young girl.
"Hi Mom!" Said the girl, addressing Piper.
After a few moments of discomfort had passed, the conversation began. "Melinda?" asked Piper; unsure of whether the girl was the same one that she had seen the first time that she had visited the future.
"Yeah- who else?" replied Melinda. The sisters studied her carefully. Thinking about it, she did bare a striking family resemblance.
She wore what was obviously the latest fashion- a pair of red leather pants that had zips at the bottom, she wore with the trousers an incredibly small, beige top.
"Mom- what's wrong?" Melinda asked, breaking the silence; The Charmed Ones had been staring open mouthed for a few moments.
"What do you mean?"
"Well- it's like you'reÖ surprised to see me?"
"Don't be stupid- you do live here! Don't you?" Said Piper, trying to avoid the issue. "Is your father around?"
Melinda's reaction admittedly shocked her. It was as if Piper had committed some kind of offense, as though her words were blasphemous.
"Mom- what are you saying? How could you, why are you- What the hell is going on?"
Piper panicked; there wasn't any way her daughter could know, was there? She had hoped not to interact too much with this timeline, there was just too much at stake, just like last time (if you pardon the pun) "What do you mean?"
"I mean that I know you all too well. Something is going on!" Melinda studied her aunts, trying to find out the truth from them. Although she had just stepped through the door, she knew that there was something going on. First of all, it seemed like her own mother whom she has always been close to had forgotten her name and where she lived, and then suddenly forgot the whole thing that went on with her dad.
"Piper, we may as well tell her" Phoebe whispered.
"Tell me what?" Melinda asked.
"What, you have advanced hearing or something?" Paige chimed in. Melinda looked puzzled, now she knew that there was something wrong.
"This might be a bit hard to take in." Piper began, taking her daughter by the arm.
"After all that we've been through, you still think to say that?" Melinda answered as they slowly walked over to the couch. They all sat down together.
Piper stared deep into her daughter's eyes. At that point she realized something; this really was her daughter. Don't get me wrong, she always ëknewí, but this was the first time that she had made the connection to her child. I suppose you'd have to be in her position to understand.
"You may find this hard to take in, you might not believe meÖ" She was unsure of how to explain this. I mean, imagine coming home one day to find out that your own mother has no idea who you are or what's gone on over the past however many years.
"Mommy, I'd believe anything you'd tell me" Said Melinda, almost as though she was a vulnerable little girl againÖ well, for the first time if you look at it another way.
"The three of us" Piper continued "Well weÖ"
At this point Phoebe took over the explanation for her struggling sister.
"We're from the past, 2001 to be exact. We came into the future using a spell in the Book of Shadows, so we,"
"Haven't got a clue about what's happened to your lives" Melinda finished the sentence, she was well aware that the Charmed ones had visited the future once before, but that was when aunt Prue was alive.
Melinda was a little disheartened, but made the decision not to show it.
"I am so sorry, I know that this must be hard for you" Piper said. She truly felt sorry for her daughter, but at least this time she knew her name.
"That's okay" Melinda smiled, the sunlight catching her long brown hair. She brushed a strand out of her eyes and tucked it behind her ear. She tightened her grip on her mother's hand and looked into her eyes "What do you wanna know?" Obviously they had come here to find things out- why not get it over with?
At this point, the manor door flew open. The Charmed Ones all stood up expecting it to be a demon, but it wasn't. It was a man, a smiling man at that- demons rarely smiled when they burst in. The man, without announcing himself strode over to Paige, and grabbed her by the waist. She let out a small gasp of surprise as his grip tightened, passionately kissing her as she leaned back. Oh and it wasn't a peck on the cheek, far from it. Although Paige disliked having her mouth explored by this man, she had to admit to herself that she did enjoy it just as bit. When it was over (after what seemed like an eternity) the man smiled at her, looking deep into her eyes lovingly, with a slight twinkle in his own.
ëVoom, voom, voom, voom, voom, voom, voomí
The man stood completely still. Paige wondered what was going on, until she peaked over his broad shoulders. Piper stood open mouthed with her arms outstretched. She had frozen him, but not just him. Everything was frozen. Time had stopped throughout not only the house, but the street too and everyone else's homes!
"Oh wow- I never get tired of doing that" Piper remarked. To this, Paige frowned. She marched over to join her sisters and to address her niece.
"Who is that?" She asked.
"That's Nate- your husband!"
"I have a husband?" Paige squeaked. She seemed more surprised than happy, after all- she'd never though of herself as the type of person to get married.
"Well, not officially" Melinda lowered her voice as though some big secret was about to be shared. "He's already married" She winked.
"Oh my God- I'm a whore!" Paige hated that more than being a wife.
"No! They're getting a divorce!" Melinda giggled.
Before Paige had a chance to go on, Piper cut her off.
"I know that this might be hard for you, but,"
"What happened between you and Dad?" Melinda really did know her mother well; Piper nodded. If she found out what keeps getting them divorced, hopefully she could prevent it from ever happening.  Piper bit her bottom lip, waiting for the news to hit her. What if it was her fault?
"It's not really my place to sayÖ"
Piper instantly, and for the first time, settled into the mother role. She stood in an almost defensive stance, and pointed at her daughter (Nate and the rest of the neighborhood were all still frozen).
"Melinda Halliwell, tell your mother the truth!"
"It's Melinda Prudence Halliwell" Melinda replied matter-of-factly. Piper stood down; she wasn't surprised that she had name Melinda after Prue. "The two of you, well, it wasn't really your fault. You just slowly drifted apart after I was born, and then Akira came along andÖ"
Akira? Piper thought. So another woman was involved?
"Are you saying that Leo had an affair?" Scorned Piper.
"Well yeah" It seemed as though Melinda was timidly trying to defend herself rather than her father "But that's not what broke you up."
Before Piper got a chance to probe even further, the conversation was interrupted. "Okay, you know what- my turn!" Phoebe interrupted. She has stayed quiet up until now. "What happened between me and Cole?"
This seemed to have struck a nerve with Melinda, as though she was sensitive about the subject. "Uncle ColeÖ died" All that was heard was a thud as Phoebe hit the floor (she had fainted) and a "huh?" as Nate unfroze.
Ö

A drip, drip, drip could be heard somewhere in the dark of the warehouse. The building had a simple design; it was actually quite run down. Dust hand settled against the windows, so the only light the shone came through a pane of broken glass. The rotten, wooden door that had been sprayed with graffiti burst off its hinges. It lay in a crumpled heap on the floor. A large beast took up the doorway, blocking out even more light. "Get the hell out of my way," said a woman from somewhere outside. Despite its great size, the beast seemed scared. It quickly ran out of the doorway, standing guard inside. A smaller demon came in from behind him. This demon seemed like a teenager, only about eighteen or so. He had pointed ears (like a wolf) and short gray hair all over his body. Sharp white teeth protruded from his gums. He walked upright, and even wore pants; his green eyes shone clearly in the dark. There was also a Banshee with them, her hair as white as snow.
Followed by her was a young woman. She had short golden brown hair and was wearing a black evening gown.
"This should do nicely" she smirked.
Ö

"Phoebe, Phoebe sweetieÖ"
Phoebe was asleep on the couch, with her sisters, niece and future soon-to- be brother in law standing over her. She slowly opened her eyes, but quickly sat up.
"What do you mean, he died?" She blurted out quickly, almost as though she was still in the earlier conversation.
"Well, when you got married things were fine for a year or so."
"Then what happened?" Phoebe asked Melinda.
"Well, Cole became an alcoholic. Things just went from bad to worse, he became violent," Phoebe was shocked by this information, but Melinda had more to say. "Well, you left him when I was about five. It broke him apart. He was killed downtown a few days after the divorce by the Brotherhood, he couldn't defend himself."
A tear fell from Phoebe's cheek, she was in complete disbelief. Paige hugged her sister tightly. "That's it, I'm never getting married to him"
"Phoebe?" Paige began.
"Don't Phoebe me, if we hadn't of got married Cole would never have died."
Everyone stayed silent; they thought it was best if they didn't say anything. As Phoebe looked down, she saw that the pillow she had been resting on was covered with blood. She must have hit her head when she fell.
"Here, let me take care of that" Melinda lifted up her hand, and much to everyone's surprise, she healed the wound on Phoebe's head.
"You can do that?" Paige asked. She was looking forward to having another half-whitelighter around the house.
"Sure, I have the powers of Telekinesis, Healing and Hasting."
"What's hasting?" Piper asked. "And, don't we have a Whitelighter to do the whole healing thing for us?"
"Well, after the thing with you and Dad, they decided not to let us have another whitelighter- too much trouble. Since I can heal and Paige can orb, they thought that we'd do without".
"That's a very nice story," Phoebe said, not really meaning to be rude. She was more angry than anything else. "But we're going home".
"Phoebe?" Piper asked.
"Forget it, I don't like this time anymore, I want out!"
"You've certainly changed your tune. If I remember right you were the one that insisted we come here in the first place.
Without offering a response, Phoebe jumped up and ran to the stairs.
Where are you going?"
"Three guesses!" Nate said as he sat on the couch to watch TV. Piper, Paige and Melinda ran up to the attic.
As they swung open the door, Piper and Phoebe couldn't believe their eyes. The attic had been fully decorated and modernized. There was no more mess; the walls had been properly covered and painted white. Large electric metallic lights hung from the ceiling. Large wooden trunks were neatly placed against the wall; no doubt they contained the Wicca supplies. Family heirlooms were neatly stacked away on shelves. A beige couch accompanied by a small table was by the window, a bookcase and vase of flowers nearby. An incredibly large aquarium took up a whole wall, filled with tropical fish of every colour imaginable. The Book of Shadows rested upon a stone altar, which stood in the centre of the room. Phoebe was frantically flipping through it, as usual.
"Here we are!" She slammed the page down hard; it was open to the return spell. She seemed resolved, again.
"You can't go right now" Said Melinda.
"Why not?"
"Because this time needs The Charmed Ones"
"How do you mean?" asked Paige.
"A powerful demon known as Cassandra has just arrived in town. She's unlike any you've ever faced before. That's where I just came from, I was doing research in the occultist store".
"So what?" shrugged Phoebe "Just leave it another twenty years and we'll come running."
"You can't do that" Melinda actually seemed worried. "You see, Cassandra has the power to enter any time frame that she chooses. She has been sent to destroy the three of you, so she jumped to the same time frame that you're all in. Since you have all come to the future, this is where the face-off happens"
"Well, what's the difference between fighting her here and fighting her back in the present?" asked Piper. She didn't want to leave without finding out more about this time, but she was still open to going home.
"The minute you go back, she'll know. This time will stop existing to you, so it will to her too. That way she'll follow you back."
Piper remarked on how much Melinda had researched this.
"Yíall don't have the power to defeat her back in your real time. You're stronger here. You will have to kill her now".
Piper and Paige were convinced; they looked at Phoebe, preparing for a fight.
"What do ya say Pheebs? Stay here and fight or go back and die?" Piper asked.
"You can't exactly stop Cole from dying if you're dead first" Paige continued.
After a moment or two, Phoebe closed the book and said, "I don't really have much of a choice now, do I?"
As her hand left the cover of the book, she looked as though she was about to sneeze. Her head was thrown back, and she let out a scream of pain. Her arms began to flail through the air as she stumbled around the attic. It was then that she realized what was happening- through the pain she understood that she was having a premonition. She saw it in great detail, and the vision was in color this time! She saw Cassandra, sitting on some sort of throne. Cassandra extended her arm and pulled out the heart of a Banshee; she smiled cruelly.
When the vision stopped, the pain instantly subsided.
"What was that?" Piper asked, almost rhetorically.
"You're not the only one who's power has grown you know".

Ö

The warehouse had changed dramatically; Cassandra lived in style, and did not pack lightly.
A large, golden throne rested on a small stage that had five rounded steps leading up to it. The (cleaned) floor was now carpeted in red velvet; the walls were now covered in drapes. Candles rested on ornate wooden candleholders; several were placed in the room. The windows were cleaned, and some were stained purple. A solid oak door with a brass handle replaced the old one. The balcony that surrounded the room was home to Cassandra's several wardrobes, her bed (with red velvet sheets) and her bath. Millions of rose petals were scattered on the floor, which provided a rich scent. A grandfather clocked ticked away happily in the corner, and a small glass coffee table was home to several magazines. Happy with her work, Cassandra sat on her throne, with her small band of demons resting around her. She was well aware that the witches were on their way, but did not care. After all, she wanted them there. She took a sip from the long goblet of Champagne she was holding, and munched on a piece of chocolate.
"What of the witches, ma'am?" asked Suzara, the Banshee.
"I will kill them, you fool" She sarcastically replied.
"But what if you can't?" It was a mistake to have said that. In a blink of an eye, Cassandra dropped the goblet, extended her arm and ripped out the Banshee's heart. She dropped the heart and grabbed the glass of Champagne with precision. Suzara dropped to the floor, dead. The wolf child began to greedily feast on the still beating heart.

Ö

The girls whizzed down the road as fast as they could. The hover vehicle moved at an alarming rate. Phoebe's vision had told her where the demon was, so they thought it was best to get there as soon as possible, but they had absolutely no want of saving the Banshee.
"So- what's the plan?" asked Paige when she realized no one had thought to think one up. No one had an answer either, Melinda concentrated on driving and Phoebe and Piper just looked out of the windows (which were more like energy fields rather than glass).

They soon arrived at the factory. They all got out of the car; Melinda shouted out "lock" and metallic armour covered the whole vehicle.
"You can't be too careful" She joked.
They slowly walked towards the door, but realized that it was too stiff to open.
"How do we get in?" Paige wondered out loud. She knew that they should have had a plan.
"Orb in there." Melinda replied- almost as though she felt it should have been obvious.
"But I can't orb from place to place."
"Just trust me!" She smiled sarcastically; Phoebe got the impression that she was getting tired of explaining things.
Paige walked up to the door and closed her eyes. She disappeared in a stream of orbs that slowly drifted through the door like smoke and into the warehouse. She slowly reformed.  "Cool!" She whispered. Thankfully Cassandra and her demons had not noticed her; the wolf boy seemed more interested in eating the Banshee's corpse. His hairy jaw was stained with green blood; it matched his eyes, which were constantly surveying his mistress and what appeared to be either his co-worker or his rival. The larger demon was the one keeping guard, but wasn't very good at his job. Paige thought that she recognized him from the Book of Shadows, a Troll. The largest in size but definitely not in mind. Trolls were notoriously thick.
Paige turned and silently unlocked the door, sliding the large silver bolts to one side. The others joined her.
"Just how cool was that?" Paige grinned as soon as the door was closed. Phoebe, Piper and Melinda however did not seem to care. In fact, they were more concerned with something behind Paige. As though in slow motion, she slowly turned around to seeÖ the big, bouncer, troll demon standing over them. He smiled almost the same way as a cat does when it catches a mouse. The girls seemed frozen in fear, unable to move.
"DEMON!" Paige screamed more out of surprise than fear. The demon suddenly robed out, and when it reappeared, it was laying unconscious on the other side of the room. "I can do that too?" she breathlessly asked.
The Wolf-Boy was making his way over to the girls. Melinda waved her hand, similar to the way Prue used to, and sent it flying though the air; it smacked into Cassandra.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" The female demon screamed. "KILL THEM!" She stood off her throne and backed into the shadows, watching the fight from a distance rather than retreating from it. She moved like a jungle-cat, her hips swaying from side to side hypnotically.
The Wolf Boy jumped to his feet and ran towards the girls, teeth barred. Phoebe screamed and raised her arm in a vain effort to halt him, suddenly a bolt of electricity shot out of her hand. It hit him square in the chest, he was hurt so bad that his ears bled, his feet let off smoke and he lay on the floor, convulsing, growling ferociously but powerless.
"That's new!" She smiled. Finally she got the active, kick ass, power that she had always wanted.
"You might want to get him out of the way". Melinda pointed to the balcony above them. There was a risk of him waking up, and having learnt so much about Cassandra; she didn't want to risk it. Phoebe had an idea of what she meant, or at least she hoped she meant. She levitated off the floor, and flew towards the Wolf Boy. She picked him up and dropped him off on the balcony. Phoebes power of levitation had grown so much that she could now fly. Her sisters below her looked impressed.
Cassandra had remained out of the battle, but now stepped up.
"Bring it on" She threatened, her long black nails glistened in the light. She threw off the indigo velvet robe she had been wearing. She was still wearing the long, tight evening gown. She seemed confident, sure of herself.
Melinda stood in front of the others. "This is what Hasting is". A number of orbs surrounded her body until she glowed brightly. She ran at such as speed that she only appeared as a blur. When the Hasting wore off, she was standing behind Cassandra. She punched the air, and telekinetically moved the demon across the room. Melinda smiled triumphantly as Cassandra got to her feet.
"You'll regret that" the she-demon said bitterly.
Cassandra lunged her arm forward, and sent an energy ball whizzing towards Paige, who quickly orbed out of the way.
"I got her!" Piper raised her hands to blow Cassandra up, but she did not have the effect she wanted. Instead, the white candle in a nearby holder ëshimmeredí slightly; it didn't go anywhere though. When the ëheat waveí effect wore off, the white candle had become blue; the orange flame became green. "What just happened?" she screamed at her daughter as she dodged another energy ball.
"Your final power allows you to transmogrify molecules"
Another energy ball was launched. The red sphere spiraled towards Phoebe. Adopting a Superman stance, she flew up into the air. The energy hit a decorative vase on a shelf nearby. The vase broke into a hundred, smoking pieces. Cassandra seemed as though she was enjoying herself; admittedly The Charmed Ones were not doing their best. Piper tried again, and managed to freeze Cassandra. Phoebe flew back down to the others, to re-group.
"Oookay, to avoid that again, what powers do we all have?" Piper asked.
After a moment, Melinda ran her fingers through her hair and said,
"Mom, you can slow molecules down, speed them up and transmogrify them. Phoebe, you can see the future, fly and control electricity. Paige, you can orb things from place to place, orb yourself from place to place and animate objects".
Paige was puzzled, as were her sisters.
"What do you mean, animate objects?"
Melinda looked into her aunt's eyes, and explained. "We all end up with three powers. Since we're both half whitelighter, we get one witch power, one whitelighter power and one mix of the two. Your witch power lets you make objects come to life. Try it on that chair" She pointed to an oak armchair next to the frozen Cassandra. "Just focus, and it will happen" Paige focused on the chair and sort of blinked. The chair came to life, and ran at Cassandra, kicking her with its legs.
"Cool!" Paige exclaimed. The chair was drastically kicking Cassandra in her torso. Cassandra unfroze, and smashed the chair with a kick, her spiked heels piercing the again-stationary chair.
"Stupid little witches". She slowly marched towards the girls, but was frozen for a second time.
"Let's get out of here," said Paige (she knew they should have had a plan).
The four Halliwells ran out of the building, and shut the door behind them. As they ran toward the car, Piper turned, gestured with her hands and watched as the entire building blew up. All that remained was a pile of ashes and a few spurts of flame. They jumped into the car and sped away. A hand emerged from under the rubble; black clawlike nails scratched away at the fallen planks of wood. Cassandra slowly got to her feet, unharmed apart from a trickle of blood on her forehead, otherwise she was just dusty. She had a vengeful look on her face, an incredibly pissed off look.
"I'll get you" she whispered "You destroy my homeÖ" Her voice trailed off. Bright orange and yellow twinkle lights, similar to orbs only sinister looking, surrounded Cassandra and enveloped her. She disappeared from sight.

Piper, Phoebe, Paige and Melinda stopped off in the nearby occultist store on their way home. "Why are we here again?" Asked Piper. "Did we forget me kicking her diva-ass?"
Melinda rolled her eyes, but continued getting bags of herbs from the shelves. "You didn't kill her, you stopped her. She'll be back."
The Charmed ones exchanged worried looks. "The only way we can kill her is using a potion, I must be the only witch doing research around here".
"You are your aunt's niece" began Piper, referring to Prue. She was interrupted. Melinda took a ringing cell phone from her pocket and held it up to her ear. The phone was paper thin and only a few inches long. Technology had seriously improved.
"What's wrong Uncle Nate? Okay, we'll be straight there." She hung up.
"What's wrong?" Paige asked her.
"He didn't say, just that we need to get home".
They ran out of the store, sharing worried glances.

When they pulled up to the manor, the four of them couldn't help but break down into tears. The manor was in flames. Every room was on fire, the windows were smashed, the blaze was out of control. Fire crackled like the tongue of a serpent, flicking in and out. A slightly injured Nate sat on the sidewalk. The once pink paint on the exterior of the manor crumbled to ash and fell to the floor. A sound of a fire truck was heard screeching down the road. The stained-glass windows blew out of their frames. The girls held each other in disbelief as the manor slowly burned to the ground. The sky had turned dark, but not from the smoke. A storm was brewing overhead; black clouds loomed in the dark gray sky.
As the firemen went to work, Piper tried to comfort her sisters and her daughter. Although they were in another time, seeing the manor like this had brought it all home to them. Their lives were in ruins.
Through the sobs Piper could have sworn she heard Cassandra's voice on the wind. It was little more than a whisper, followed by a ghostly cackle.
"ÖAnd I'll destroy yoursí"
