What's the story with Charmed?
    Charmed is about three sisters named Prue, Piper and Phoebe. All are in their twenties and live together in the house they grew up in. They inherited the house, known as the manor, from their grandmother after she died. But that's not all they inherited. It turns out that all three girls are witches. They come from a long line of women who had magical powers. None of the sisters realize this though until Phoebe discovers a large book of witchcraft in their attic called the Book Of Shadow. After Phoebe reads an incantation, each sister receives her own power. Prue has the power of telekinesis, Piper can freeze time, and Phoebe has premonitions. The sisters discover their powers slowly and it takes quite awhile for them to adjust to their new lives. Suddenly they must use their powers to protect the innocent and themselves from demons and warlocks.

What happened to their mother and the rest of their family?
    Patty Halliwell, the girls' mother, was killed by a water demon when they were young. Their father had already left them, and they would not see him again until twenty years later. After their mother's death, the girls were raised by their grandmother.

Why didn't they get their powers until they were older?
    Prue, Piper and Phoebe did have powers when they were young. But their grandmother was forced to bind them soon after Phoebe was born when a warlock came calling. So the girls grew up with no memory of what they had once been able to do. The binding spell ended though when their grandmother died and the sisters were reunited.

What's up with the jokes about Piper's love life?
       Piper has had some interesting boyfriends, including Jeremy the first warlock they ever met. He tried to kill her just after she got her powers. Then there was Mark, a ghost, who had to move on when the sisters got justice for his murder. After that came Leo, who turned out to be a whitelighter, and then Josh a grad student who left for a job in Beverly Hills. Eventually Piper found Dan, her neighbor, who she dated for quite a few months. But then she decided to go back to Leo and attempt to have a normal relationship with a not so normal guy. Piper's love life gives her sisters lots of chances to tease her, and its no wonder why.

What's a whitelighter?
    A whitelighter protects witches and helps to train future whitelighters. They are immortal and are able to heal people with the touch of their hands. They can also "orb" in and out, suddenly appearing in a flash of white light. But they are not supposed to fall in love with witches a rule that Leo is willing to break for Piper.

What are the main rules that they must follow when using their powers?
    The Halliwell sisters are not allowed to use their magic for personal gain unless its in self defense. If they do try to use their magic for this reason, as Prue and Phoebe did when trying to save Piper from the Arroyo Fever, there will always be consequences. Phoebe has become quite adept at writing spells that get around this clause though.
    The other important rule they must follow is that their magic can only be used to protect the innocent and not to punish the guilty. Phoebe learned this the hard way when she discovered that her future self was going to be executed for killing a man with her power.

Which sister is most likely to go over to the dark side?
    Definitely Phoebe. In her past life Phoebe was seduced by a warlock and attempted to kill her own cousins to gain their powers. In the future, Phoebe murdered a man. And just after she received her powers a demon in their basement possessed her because she was most susceptible to him. Eventually she was able to push past his control, but as Phoebe reminds her sisters, she could go either way.

What's in the Book of Shadows?
    The Book of Shadows has many spells that the sisters use to vanquish their foes. It also contains lots of info on the demons and warlocks that appear in their lives. The Halliwell sisters have only recently begun to add to the book themselves.

Where do the sisters live?
    They live in San Francisco at 1329 Prescott Street.

Who knows that they are witches?
    There are only a few people who have learned the Halliwell secret. Leo, of course, knows the truth, as did Andy, Prue's boyfriend, turned friend who died trying to save them from a warlock. Inspector Morris, Andy's former partner also knows. Piper was forced to tell Dan after they broke up, but because of a wish she made to a genie, she was able to make him forget his new knowledge. And now Paige's boyfriend Glenn is in on the secret.

Who are the actresses that star in Charmed?
    Shannen Doherty, formerly of Beverly Hills 90210 fame, plays Prue Halliwell. Piper Halliwell is played by a talented Picket Fences alum named Holly Marie Combs. Alyssa Milano, who played Samantha Micelli on Who's the Boss?, is the youngest sister, Phoebe. And now new sister Paige is played by Rose McGowan, formerly of Jawbreaker fame.
