"We're gonna vanquish Phoebe's boyfriend?
That's gonna cause some problems..."
-Piper
A few days after
Piper has done a slice and dice job on Belthazor, she and Prue are trying
to make the potion to vanquish him. Piper, ever the chef, is doing the
cooking, but isn't all too thrilled with the ingredients which include
the dreaded pigs feet. Just looking at them makes her
want
to go vegetarian. They get to discussing Cole, who no one has seen in awhile,
and Prue once again expresses her dislike for him. Just then Phoebe comes
in to help and seems to realize they were talking about something they
didn't want her to hear. She tries to ignore the awkwardness, and wants
to hurry and do the spell before Cole returns. She assures her sisters
that he will come back. Then they do the spell. Nothing happens. Why? No
Belthazor flesh. Piper hurries to get it, then drops it in. There's a small
explosion that throws poor Piper across the kitchen. Prue and Phoebe quickly
help her up, as Piper grumbles about the killer pigs feet.
Meanwhile, at
a graveyard, an injured Cole is being chased by a demon named Krell. He
is a bounty hunter, hired by the Source to find Cole. Using his powers,
Cole saves himself, then escapes, disappearing into a gathering of people.
Back at the
Manor, Phoebe is getting ready to leave. She's on her way to school then
plans to stop at Cole's. Prue isn't pleased to hear this because they are
about to do the spell to call Belthazor. But Phoebe knows that Prue's real
problem is Cole and she wants her sister's understanding. Still, Prue is
worried that she'll get hurt by Cole and reminds Phoebe that her younger
sister never liked Prue's boyfriends either. As Piper comes in, Prue tells
her that they can do the spell themselves and that Phoebe is going to find
Cole. Phoebe thanks her for the support, but asks them not to keep secrets
from her anymore.
In an alley
somewhere, Cole struggles to keep moving. He tosses off his bloody jacket,
leaving it there in the street.
Prue and Piper
grab the dining room table and tip it on its side, using it as a shield
between
them
and the demon that they are about to call. They cast the spell and toss
the potion at the demon who is starting to appear. As they dive behind
the table, Piper wonders why there's no boom. They look up and see a demon
who is definitely not Belthazor. He blows a hole in the table and Prue
angrily tosses him through the air. Piper freezes him in mid-air though,
worried that he'll hit their clock which they are continually having to
fix. She then manages to unfreeze just his head which she and Prue find
very amusing. They try to interrogate him, but he responds rather nastily
and Piper unfreezes him, happily allowing him to crash into the clock.
Then they ask him more questions. They discover that he is a demon Krell,
a bounty hunter, and that he is also searching for Belthazor.
Phoebe goes
to the DA's office in search of Cole. But instead she finds an investigator
who is also searching for him. Apparently Cole is missing. Phoebe tells
him that she has no idea where her boyfriend is.
As Prue and
Piper drag more info out of Krell they find out that Belthazor killed the
Triad, and now the Source wants him dead. He suggests that they work together.
Piper hates the idea, but Krell promises that he can find the demon by
tracking his scent when Belthazor's in his demonic form. He tells them
that the demon will be coming after them, because killing them may be the
only way he can redeem himself and save his own life. Then Krell disappears
and Prue and Piper are left yelling for Leo.
Ducking into
Cole's apartment, Phoebe finds him obviously injured. She insists that
he go to a hospital but he won't. He tells her that there are people after
him and that he cannot leave. Phoebe whispers for Leo, hoping that he will
come heal Cole. But nothing happens. Finally she is forced to leave him
as she rushes off, promising to get help.
Up in the attic,
Piper's mad at Leo for not telling them about the dead Triad. Prue wants
to work with Krell, but Piper fears that he might betray them and thus
try to kill them (that is after all what evil beings do). But Prue doesn't
want to worry about Belthazor again. Leo, who has always been so adamant
that they not work with demons, is suddenly backing Prue, so Piper reluctantly
agrees to go along with them.
Downstairs,
they call Krell using the same spell. Unfortunately, Phoebe chooses that
moment to return home and she beats up on the demon a little. Her sisters
quickly explain the situation as Krell tries to hurry them along. Finally
Prue and Piper decide to go with him, while Phoebe and Leo go to the graveyard,
a favorite hiding spot for demons.
But
Phoebe has other plans for the whitelighter and she drags him over to Cole's
apartment. Leo doesn't want to help her, because he's not supposed to heal
mortals who were not hurt by evil. But Phoebe reminds him that he's done
it before (apparently thinking of the time he saved Piper). Realizing the
parallels, Leo agrees to help Phoebe save her boyfriend. But when he tries,
something is obviously wrong. The wound heals, in part, but not before
Leo is tossed across the room by a strange energy. As he gets up, he stares
down at Cole, a worried expression on his face.
Leo pulls Phoebe
out into the hall, and tells her that he thinks Cole is a demon, maybe
even Belthazor. It seems obvious. He is injured in the same place where
Piper cut the demon. And the healing did not work completely. But Phoebe
doesn't believe Leo and she sends him away, telling him she has the vanquishing
potion just in case.
Krell leads
Prue and Piper down an alley, then uncovers a homeless man under a jacket
reeking with Belthazor's scent. He tells the sisters to vanquish the man,
but they refuse, insisting that he's not the demon. Krell then drags the
man to his feet and tries to torture him into talking. But Prue kicks Krell's
feet right out from under him, allowing the man to get away. She then takes
the coat and recognizes it as Cole's. She glances over at Piper. Uh-oh.
Back at Cole's
apartment, Leo's words are apparently sinking in for Phoebe. As Cole recovers
he seems rather creepy. While he's in the bathroom, Phoebe takes the opportunity
to snoop around his apartment.
Piper, Prue
and Krell arrive at Cole's building and find Leo there in the lobby. He
tells them
what
they already know, that Cole's a demon. When they find out that Leo healed
him, they aren't happy. They rush up to the apartment, leaving the whitelighter
behind.
Cole and Phoebe
seem to be having a face off. Phoebe is unsure of everything now, and Cole
tells her to ask the question that's been on her mind all along. Phoebe
finally asks who he is. Just then Prue, Piper and Krell burst in. Cole
returns to his demonic form, then grabs Phoebe holding a knife to her throat.
Then as her sisters look on, he shimmers away with her.
Krell is angry
that Belthazor got away from them. But Piper doesn't believe that Cole
will hurt there sister. Still, Krell thinks that he was only using her
to get to all of them. He demands that they give him the potion, so that
he can track Belthazor down quickly and vanquish him. Prue reluctantly
hands it over, much to Piper's dismay. But Prue has a plan. They'll go
to the place where demons hide.
As if on cue,
Phoebe and the demon appear in the graveyard. Phoebe tosses him to the
ground, where he turns back into Cole. She's about to vanquish him with
the potion she's had all along, but Cole promises not to hurt her. She
tells him that it's too late for that. He insists that he couldn't kill
her because he loved her and that she brought out the humanity in him.
Just then, Krell appears and tries to kill Cole. Phoebe drags him into
a nearby mausoleum and fights Krell to protect him. It looks as if Krell
is about to kill her, when Cole unleashes his power and kill the bounty
hunter instead. Phoebe kisses him, then hears her sisters calling for her.
She takes Cole's shirt, then uses his knife to slice his palm. She then
drops the potion on the ground with his blood and his shirt, causing a
small explosion. Now everyone will think he is dead. They kiss once more
and he disappears. A few seconds later, Piper and Prue appear. Phoebe
tells
them that Cole killed Krell. Prue then assumes that Phoebe did what she
had to do, that she vanquished Cole
The next day
Phoebe is lying on the couch. Her sisters come in to bring her food. Phoebe
tell them that Prue was right all along, even if she never wanted to be.
Piper tells her younger sister that Cole fooled them all. But still Phoebe
feels ashamed (for reasons other than the ones her sisters are thinking
of). Prue tells her that she didn't do anything wrong and both she and
Piper are just happy that it's over. They decide to let her alone then,
leaving Phoebe to her guilty thoughts.
