"If this is a gift, we are returning
it. It was not meant for you."
-Piper
Prue stands in
the kitchen, focusing all of her attention on a fork. She stares at it,
grimaces at it and even tries to sneak up on it. But alas, the eating utensil
refuses to budge. Moments later, Phoebe
wanders
in, claiming fashion issues. When she notices Prue's attempts at telekinesis,
she starts to worry that her sister has lost her power. But Prue assures
her that she can't lose what she never had. Then Prue disappears. With
a sigh, Phoebe realizes that her sister has been playing astral games again.
She calls out Marco, then follows her sister's Polo up into the attic.
Prue sits there
reading, studying up on her powers. They know now that Belthazor is on
his way, and they need to be ready for him. But Prue is frustrated that
she can't use her power in astral mode. Phoebe's got her own frustrations
to worry about. She and Cole are scheduled for a date, but it's a lunch
date, not exactly the romantic wining and dining that she had hoped for.
As she worries about her future with the ADA, Prue groans. She has a bad
tooth ache that's been bothering her for awhile. But luckily she has made
a dentist appointment for later that day.
On the drive
over to her friendly tooth doctor, Prue starts seeing signs, street signs,
signs on
trucks...
all are pointing her to an old, pretty much abandoned building. Unfortunately
for her, she doesn't see Cole standing on the street, apparently creating
the signs for her to follow. She calls Phoebe who assures her that she
hasn't been casting any spells. She tells Prue to ignore them and get to
the dentist. But instead Prue hangs up and heads for the building. Inside
she find a "shut in" named Vince who refuses to leave the building even
though its slated for demolition. He seems horrified to see her, and as
she tries to get closer he begins yelling about her tooth ache. He can
feel what she's feeling. Prue just stands there, stunned.
Back at the
manor, Leo isn't too happy about how Piper's introducing him to people.
After taking her to his whitelightery heaven, saving her from death, and
hurling his body in front of demons for her, he'd like to be known as a
little bit more than a friend. But Piper can't exactly tell people the
truth.
It'd be hard to talk to people about her fiancé, the whitelighter,
who doesn't have enough money to buy her a ring. Piper just wants to be
normal and Leo seems frustrated that he can't join her in her normalcy.
Their conversation is interrupted though, by the arrival of Prue and Cole.
Piper's more than a little surprised at seeing the two together, but Prue
assures her that Cole simply drove in behind her. As Phoebe rushes in to
meet her date, Prue carefully explains about the man who refuses to leave
the building. Cole goes off to call someone to see if he can get the man
someplace to go if Prue can convince him to leave. He heads to the kitchen
in search of the phone.
Once there though,
his shadow detaches from him. Cole tells the figure not to go ratting him
out to the Triad. He's convinced that his new plan will work. His conversation
with his darker side is interrupted though when Phoebe comes in. She grabs
some Aspirin for Prue, unaware of the strangely
placed
shadow on the wall. Then she heads back to the living room. Leo is in his
serious thinking mode. He seems to believe that Prue has stumbled across
a future emapth. The man is probably rejecting his gift, which may be why
he having trouble adjusting to all of the emotions, particularly the negative
ones.
Cole returns,
telling Prue that he has found a place for the man. He gives her his card
to give to the Vince. Prue takes it and leaves. Cole and Phoebe are about
to take off on their lunch date, when Leo manages to invite himself and
Piper along. Phoebe doesn't look all that happy and Piper seems to be plastering
on an uncomfortable smile. But they agree to Leo's suggestion.
Prue returns
to the abandoned building and goes to talk to Vince. She tells him that
she knows what it's like to have a gift you can't control. But he can feel
her pain and fear and she only seems to be
hurting
him further. As a deputy comes in to take Vince away though, Prue manages
to keep the door closed with her power. Then she casts a spell. As she
does, Vince grabs a hold of her hand. Moments later, he is free of all
the emotions. Prue, satisfied that she has helped an innocent, leaves quickly.
The deputy gets ready to escort Vince out of the building. But once Prue
is gone, Vince kills him in a most demonic fashion.
Meanwhile, Phoebe,
Cole, Piper and Leo sit around a table in awkward silence. After a few
seconds Phoebe mentions the Forty Niner football team then makes a joke
about Cole not being human. Cole nearly spits his water all over Piper
and Leo. Phoebe, sensing a negative vibe, drags Piper away to the bathroom.
She then confides in her sister that Cole is pulling away from her, she
can already tell.
Back at the
table, Leo explains to Cole that he is rather protective of Phoebe. He
tells Cole to be straight with her, that he doesn't want to see her get
hurt. Just then the girls return along with the bill.
Cole
tells Leo that they should split it. Realizing that Leo is penniless (after
all whitelighter pay sucks), Piper quickly covers for him and whips out
her credit card. As she does, Cole gets a page and leaves, much to Phoebe's
disappointment.
Over at the
abandoned building, Cole meets Vince. The demon is angry and wanting to
go after the empath who cursed him. But Cole instructs him not too then
explains that he will be leaving town soon. Realizing that Prue will probably
die within a day, he doesn't want to see Piper and Phoebe suffer her loss.
Prue has finally
made it to the dentist, but by this time its too late for her appointment.
As she tries to reschedule she whirls around, feeling someone grabbing
her. As she does, she sees a couple behind her, the man grabbing at the
woman's rear region. Prue is a little surprised and suddenly starts laughing.
As the receptionist stares at her Prue notices a woman being given laughing
gas in a nearby
room. Realizing that she is feeling what the others around her are feeling,
Prue hurries away. But before she goes, she gives the guy who's hands she
felt, a little sqeeze of his own.
Phoebe already
knows what is coming as Cole stops to talk to her, just inside the doorway
of the manor. He doesn't think that they should see each other anymore.
There are complications. Phoebe's somewhat surprised and hurt. As he turns
to leave though, he pushes past Prue who has just returned. She suddenly
feels an intense emotion and tells Phoebe that Cole is falling in love
with her. And then she realizes with a smile that Phoebe is falling in
love with him too.
Phoebe heads
for the kitchen, with Prue in hot pursuit. She tells Piper and Leo what
has happened, that Prue has somehow turned herself into an empath. To prove
it, she pinches poor Piper. Both she and Prue let out a yell. Piper gets
back a retaliatory pinch of her own, and as Phoebe yells, so does
Prue.
Piper realizes that her sister is right.
Prue seems a
little excited about the whole thing, and is disappointed at all the negative
feelings she's getting from the others But they are obviously worried,
especially when Prue manages to blow up the TV. Apparently their unhappy
thoughts and emotions overloaded her, and that mixed with her power of
telekinesis, has some rather crazy results. Phoebe is ready to head for
the BoS, but Prue tells her to go to Cole instead. Phoebe is only too happy
to oblige.
Prue heads up
to the attic. Piper and Leo want to help her, but she tells them to resolve
their couple's issues instead. Piper's in denial and Leo's feeling resentment.
Piper's somewhat surprised at this. But he explains his humiliation at
her having to pay the lunch bill. In his day, the guys did that sort of
thing. Piper understands and she tells him that's she proud to be with
him, that she just wants
to
share him with everyone else. The rest they can figure out later. As they
start to kiss on the couch though, they are interrupted by Prue's voice
yelling down to them. She tells them not to do that now, she has a headache.
Piper and Leo look confused and a little unhappy.
Over at Cole's
apartment Phoebe knocks on the door. She wastes no time in getting straight
to the point. She kisses him hastilly and next thing you know it's morning
and they're sharing a bed. Cole seems happy, certainly not his stoic, demonic
self. Phoebe sees his bags in the corner and realizes that he was leaving
town. She explains that if he is hiding something, she can help him with
it. But he doesn't take her up on her offer.
Prue, unlike
her sisters, has not had a good night. Negative thoughts are streaming
into her brain from all over the neighborhood and she is curled up in the
basement, trying to find a way to block them. Piper and Leo come down to
find her and she tries to explain what is happening as she backs
away
from her sister. In doing so, she lets loose with her powers and the basement
ceiling nearly falls down around Piper. She and Leo decide that they have
to do something and they reluctantly help Prue out of the basement.
Back at the
abandoned building, Phoebe meets Piper and Leo, while Prue waits in the
car. Piper is a little shocked at her sister's wardrobe, mainly because
Phoebe is wearing the same outfit that she had on the previous day. Phoebe
manages to get the whole story across with a few uh-huhs in response to
Piper's many questions.
Leo hurries
them along as they go into the building. Once inside the apartment Vince
was in, Phoebe gets a premonition. She see him killing people, one after
the other. The last is a man in a mental hospital. Hoping that his death
has not yet occurred, they hurry over there.
Over at the
hospital, Piper and Phoebe approach the man as Leo and Prue wait nearby.
They realize that he must be the empath who cursed Vince and as he listens
they explain what has happened. He is angry that they have released the
demonic assassin from his curse. As he grabs Piper by the shoulders to
yell at her, Prue's power explodes once again. Unfortunately, it is made
even worse by all the feelings of the mental patients around her. The room
is nearly torn apart as the feelings threaten to overwhelm her.
Back at the
manor, Piper finds Vince, otherwise known as Vinceres, in the BoS. Prue
is huddled once more in the basement and as the others conference to come
up with a plan, Phoebe suggests that she channel her emotions into her
power. But the empath, Father Thomas doesn't think Prue will live long
enough. They are basically doomed in his eyes. Piper isn't willing to accept
this. She tells him to just deal with his issues and help them.
Downstairs,
Father Thomas reaches out to Prue, explaining that she must find her inner
calm and embrace the emotions. Demons can't handle them, but she can...
And speaking
of demons, one has just entered their house. Vince has come, and Piper
attempts to freeze him, only to find that he is basically immune to her
power. Plan B? She hits him over the head with a vase. This hardly phases
him and he tosses her into the furniture. Phoebe gets off a few kicks in
his direction before she lands next to her sister.
In the basement,
Father Thomas finally gets Prue to channel the emotions into her power.
They hurry upstairs with Leo. Prue is seriously ready to go off on Vince
by this point. And she gets her chance. Using some moves straight out of
a movie, she kicks, punches and flies through the air. And then as her
grande finale, she astral projects into Vince's body, poisoning him with
an overload of human emotions. Stranger yet, her astral self and her real
self get a moment to stare at each other. It's
the first time they have been able to look at each other. Luckily, Prue's
empathic abilities have disappeared. And although she is pleased with her
temporary power boost, she seems only too happy to give it up.
That night at
P3, Prue is glad to say that her tooth has been fixed. And Leo has gotten
Father Thomas reinstated at his old church. As they discuss everything,
Phoebe wonders out loud where Prue got the signs from. Prue guesses that
it was the Triad, that they set her up. As if on cue, the issue of Cole
comes up. Phoebe decides that she needs to go talk to him.
At his apartment,
she is happy to see that he hasn't left. He explains that an associate
of his failed at his job, and so he must stay around to complete his work.
Not realizing that this could mean an early death for her and her sisters,
Phoebe reaches out to hug him.
