"Pardon the potential understatement
of a cliché, but you look like you've seen a ghost."
-Phoebe
On a beach near
San Francisco, Phoebe Halliwell has built herself a kingdom out of sand.
Proclaiming it "Phoebeville" she smiles at Prue who is busy taking pictures.
Unfortunately,
Prue doesn't share her sand induced enthusiasm. She has come for the sole
purpose of giving Piper and Leo some newlywed alone time at the maonor.
She's not a big fan of the beach, she explains. This is where Grams brought
them after their mother's funeral and it makes her angry. The sisters decide
to abandon Phoebeville in exchange for some lattes. But before they can
pack up Prue spots a woman up on the cliff taking pictures of her. Prue
sees a shadowy form beside her and tries to warn her, but she runs away.
Elsewhere in
the city, Cole's former landlady is showing his old place to two creepy
looking
guys. Anyone with any kind of instincts would be quick to point them out
as potential baddies, but the lady seems not to notice and soon enough
she has fallen victim to their vampire like teeth.
Back at the
manor, Piper is worried about her attire. She and Leo are going up to visit
his side of the family. She wishes that her sisters could go, but Leo insists
that he's not a taxi service. He just wants to introduce his new wife to
everyone. Phoebe comes in and they promise to stay within calling distance
should Prue's shadowy figure show again. Then they disappear.
Prue comes in just as the doorbell rings. It's Reese, the investigator
looking for
Cole.
He tells Phoebe what's happened to the landlady but Phoebe still won't
tell him where Cole is. Finally he leaves and as the sisters watch him
go, Prue spots the lady by his car. They seem to be working together. Prue
decides to follow her.
At the mausoleum,
Phoebe warns Cole about both Reese and the toothy fellows looking for him.
Cole explains that those must be the Seekers, then worries that they might
find Phoebe through him. He wants to deal with them on his own. But Phoebe
insists that she's ready to fight for him.
Prue watches
Reese and the woman, Andrea, talking in his car. Apparently he's having
her follow the Halliwell sisters. As she goes into his office to drop off
some
photos,
Prue follows her. Unfortunately she doesn't get into the office quick enough
and the Seekers attack and kill Andrea while searching for Reese. Prue
rushes in and sees the shadow which suddenly materializes into a man. Andrea
turns all ghostly and goes with him but not before Prue demands to know
his identity. He tells her that he is Death and that he will be back.
At Cole's old
apartment, he and Phoebe remember their past times together. Waking up
with Phoebe was Cole's first taste of humanity and he never felt evil with
her (which is good since he's with her right then :) Moments later, Phoebe
has a premonition of Reese being killed by the Seekers. Strangely enough
Prue is there and turns her back when he dies.
Back at the
manor, Phoebe's looking through the book for the Seekers. Cole refuses
to get too close, remembering how it shocked him the last time her touched
it. Finally she finds the right page and learns that they collect info
by extracting their victim's brain cells. They're obviously following their
information from person to person until they find Cole. Prue arrives then
and tells them about Andrea's death. She calls Leo and Piper back and everyone
is surprised to see the lamp they return with. It's their wedding present
and it is rather bright. But Prue is more concerned with Death. Leo insists
that Death simply exists and that he's not evil. Prue is convinced that
he is coming for Reese though and that she will be there to protect him.
Phoebe tells her
sister
about her premonition, but Prue refuses to believe her. As they are talking
Cole walk out of the room then shimmers away.
Reese is being
interviewed about Andrea's death. When he leaves, Cole meets up with him.
Sensing that the Seekers are nearby he shimmers away with Reese.
Meanwhile at
the manor, Leo is trying to find a good place for their wedding present.
But when he sets the lamp down in any visible area Piper immediately shakes
her head. Prue and Phoebe realize Cole is gone and that he probably took
Reese to the mausoleum. Prue insists that she can astral there quickly
and that Phoebe's premonition will not come true. Her sisters reluctantly
let her go.
At the mausoleum
the Seekers arrive, having tracked Cole's shimmer. Prue arrives then and
Reese freaks out with all the supernatural madness. He tries to run away
but gets knocked out. Death appears and Prue runs to fight him, but kicks
nothing but air. Poor Cole is attacked by both Seekers and is nearly killed.
But finally they retreat and so does Death.
Back at the
manor Leo is still trying to find a spot for the lamp, but Piper refuses
to approve any of his placements, telling him that it's kind of bright.
But it's supposed to symbolize the light of their eternal love. Piper immediately
worries that this means they'll have to keep it on all the time. She tries
to bring Phoebe to her side, but Phoebe stays out of it.
Just then Prue
and Cole arrive carrying Reese, who's still unconscious. Cole's angry that
Prue didn't try to help him. But Prue's bitter that he left in the first
place. If he had been caught then the Seekers would have learned about
them too. Cole had never thought about that. He was trying to protect them.
Leo decides to go consult the Elders. As he orbs out Reese wakes up and,
still freaked out, pulls a gun. They warn him that he is on Death's hit
list but are forced to let him go. Piper and Phoebe follow him, insisting
that Cole remains at the Manor. Prue leaves on her own mission.
On the beach, Prue calls upon Death. She says that she called him about
Reese,
but
he realizes the truth, that she's still angry about her mother's death.
If she manages to save Reese then she will have finally beaten him. But
he tells her that no one can beat him and that she's wasting her time trying
to stop the inevitable. In order to show her what he means, he takes her
hand and they disappear.
At a nearby
cemetery, Reese is attending Andrea's funeral unaware that Piper and Phoebe
are watching from her jeep. The Seekers approach him and he agrees to go
with them so as not to make a scene and hurt others around him. Seeing
what is happening, Piper and Phoebe follow.
The Seekers
take Reese to a building within the cemetery. Prue and Death arrive and
when
they kill Reese Prue does indeed turn her back as Death tells her that
there's nothing she can do. Standing at the window, having been locked
out, Piper and Phoebe watch in stunned surprise. The Seekers leave and
Death takes Reese. Finally Piper and Phoebe get in, demanding to know how
Prue could've let Reese die without a fight. But, crying she tells them
that it was his time. Then she goes over to Reese's body and apologizes
to him.
Back in the
manor, the Seekers have finally found Cole. They attack and Cole fends
them off until the sisters arrive. Phoebe manages to knock one of them
out while Prue
viciously
beats on the other. Finally Cole gets her to stop and the trio vanquish
the two demons. Prue is happy that they at least saved one innocent and
Phoebe smiles, pleased that Cole has reached innocent status.
Moments later
Leo arrives. The Elders told him to miss the big show, explaining that
Prue needed to learn a lesson, that Death is not evil. She walks out of
the room and Phoebe and Cole aren't far behind her. Piper and Leo are left
alone together, regarding their wedding present. Piper has decided
that its certainly not worth fighting over and that maybe she can learn
to like it. They kiss but as they do they bump the table and the lamp shatters
on the floor. Piper smiles, liking it even more now.
The next morning,
Prue is back at the beach. Death arrives and Prue wants to know why she
couldn't fight the demons, why she had to let Reese die. She is surprised
to learn that Death knows her name. He tells her that he read it off of
her list. Had she not let Reese go, then she would have been next. That's
why she was able to see Death, because she had focused all of her anger
on him. That made her vulnerable. But Prue isn't sure how else she can
be. Death tells her that she needs to grieve and let go. Then he disappears,
leaving Prue to cry on the beach.
