"Our job is to protect the innocent, not punish the guilty."
                                          -Phoebe

As Prue and Phoebe talk in the kitchen, Piper rushes through, groceries piled high in her arms. She is holding one shoe in her hand and Prue and Phoebe wrinkle their noses at the smell of the dog poop. Their neighbor's dog has been using their front yard as his own personal restroom and once again Piper's shoe has suffered the consequences. Moments later they hear a bark and they all rush to the front window. Their neighbor is standing on their front walk watching as his dog does his buisness right on their front walk. Phoebe is sick of it and urges Piper to freeze him as a service to the neighborhood. She reluctantly does and then Prue steps in to give the man a taste of his own medicine. As he unfreezes and realizes that he now as dog doodie on his own shoe, he turns towards their house. Prue and Piper duck. But Phoebe remains unfazed. What's he going to do, she asks, cry witch?
As a reward for teaching the man a lesson, Phoebe plops down on the couch and flicks on the TV. A news story about a baseball player flashes across the screen and Phoebe suddenly has a premonition. It is the future, and she is being burned alive, even as her sisters watch. Phoebe yells and Prue and Piper come running. She quickly recounts what she saw just as Leo arrives at the door. Piper explains that she is a little busy, but then he gets called back anyway. What they don't realize is that Leo has now orbed into their attic to find the spell they will need to get to the future. He dissapears though as he hears them coming up the stairs.
Prue finds the spell Leo has flipped to and insists that they go to the future. Phoebe is concerned that she will be putting her sisters in danger, but Prue and Piper are willing to take the risk to save her future self. Phoebe comes up with a date a decade into the future, and they start the spell, even as Piper ponders what their future selves will look like. Well, they're about to find out.
A decade passes in the blink of an eye and Piper wakes up on the couch, still at Halliwell Manor. A little brown haired girl comes flying into the room yelling for her mommy. Piper jumps to her feet even as the child wraps her arms around Piper's waist. Piper is sure that it's some kind of mix-up and when she tells the child that she must have the wrong mommy, the little girl believes that she's making a joke. Piper just stares at the child in shock, realizing that the little girl is indeed her daughter.
Once the little girl leaves the room, Piper glances around quickly, trying to get her bearings. She is pleased to find a rather large wedding ring on her finger, but is a little mystified at the strange strap across her shirt. Then suddenly she sees Phoebe's face on her TV screen and hears the news report on her sister's pending execution. The story is over minutes later and Piper goes to the door to meet the woman who is picking up her daughter. When the woman mentions the fact that she has an ex-husband, Piper is visibly surprised and a little dissapointed. But still she grins as her daughter waves to her from the car window as they drive away.
Moment later Prue shows up in a limosine. Piper gets another shock when she sees her sister's long blonde hair and trail of assistants. It seems that Prue is now the proud owner of a number of Bucklands. And boy is she rich.
The sisters go into the house where Piper relates the details of her own future life, only to realize that she has no clue what her daughter's name is. This slight problem is soon overshadowed by another news report which lists the date of Phoebe's execution as that very day. It suddenly dawns on them that Phoebe is locked in a cell somewhere, not knowing what has happened and believing that she is not supposed to die for another two weeks. They rush up to the attic in search of the BoS. But it is gone. Prue is frantic, and angrily waves her arms through the air. Piper's eyes widen as half the attic slides into the wall. blowing it out into the street. It seems that their powers have grown.  The plus side is that they have found the key to Prue's safe at Buckland's. And both are willing to bet that the BoS is there.
Deep within some penetentiary, Phoebe is beginning to realize that she's in trouble. No one will talk to her, and as she tries to stick her head out of the cell, she is shocked. She pulls back abruptly, not knowing what to do.
Prue and Piper head across a large crowded courtyard towards Bucklands. As they are crossing though, two people bump into each other, and Piper instintively freezes them. But she has not just frozen them. She has frozen everything. Just then, Leo appears. Piper is relieved but he seems angry at her, and Prue must remind her that Leo has no idea that they're from the past.He yells at her for using her powers in public and mentions someone named Melinda who just happens to be their daughter. Piper is stunned. But there is no time to think about it. A woman has come running out of a building and is now pointing at them, screaming "Witch!" at the top of her lungs.
Leo takes them to an abandoned building where persecuted witches are hiding out. He doesn't believe their story until Piper kisses him, and reminds him of their meeting that morning in 1999. Leo remembers opening the BoS to the future spell and explains what has happened to Phoebe since then. She killed a man with her now active power and was caught. Now a politician named Pratt is using her as platform to further his witch hunts. Leo agrees to go find Phoebe and explain what has happened, while Prue and Piper search out the BoS.
Leo does indeed go to Phoebe. He tells her what she has done, then gives her a newspaper article on the incident. She has a premonition about the murder she commited and is horrified by it. Leo leaves her there, telling her that she has to pay for her future self's crime. He feels terrible about having to virtually abandon her. But it's the only way to stop the persecutions.
At Bucklands Prue learns that her future self is single and totally career driven. In fact she's about to lay off a huge number of employees. She is quite dismayed at this although Piper seems to find it humorous. She quickly stops smiling though when they open the book and find that the return spell, the one that they needed to get home, is gone.
Back at the manor Prue finds numerous personal gain spells in the BoS. Apparently they had been hatching a plan to break Phoebe out. Leo shows up without Phoebe, and Prue and Piper are more than a little upset. Piper freezes him and they decide to follow their future selves' plan. They have to save their sister. But first there is something else Piper must do.
Standing outside a window, Piper watches as her daughter plays with a doll. In her hands Piper holds a spell to bind Melinda's powers. But she can't bring herself to say it. Leo orbs in behind her and she asks him what happened, why they had seperated. Apparently Piper had been unwilling to let him give up his wings and then after everything with Phoebe, things had just fallen apart. But he assures her that they had been happy. Leo explains that he won't try to stop what she and Prue are about to do. And he also promises to take care of Melinda. Piper leaves then, without having cast the spell.
Using the spells they've collected from the book, Prue and Piper break into the jail. They finally find Phoebe in the excution room and Piper freezes everything just before they turn on the flames. They are about to escape with her, but Phoebe holds back. She tells them that she has to stay, to pay for her crime. Piper doesn't believe that and Prue has focused her attention on Pratt, the man who brought Phoebe to trial. She is about to kill him with her power, when Phoebe stops her. They cannot become murderers and they cannot let others get persecuted. Phoebe has to die. She hugs her sisters even as they start to cry, then steps back up onto the pire. It is several seconds before Piper can bring herself to unfreeze everyone. Then finally she does. She cries into Prue's shoulder, then hides her eyes as Phoebe catches fire.
Suddenly Prue and Piper are back in the manor. They look around, completely disoriented. And then Phoebe walks into the room. They hug again and realize that they're been given a second chance. Just then they hear that blasted dog barking again. Piper and Prue rush to the window, ready to try their little dog doodie stunt all over again. But Phoebe believes that this is where the path to that future had started, the first time they used their powers to punish the guilty. They realize that she is right. And then the man turns around and they see that it is Pratt. He walks away and they let him go, hoping that that will put a stop to the future witch trials.
A few mintues later Leo shows up. He knows that they have been to the future, but he doesn't know what they saw. He and Piper discuss their relationship and he tells her that he's willing to make it word if she is. She tells him to never forget that he said that.
