"I mean it's not everyday that you
find out the guy you're seeing isn't human. Although in Piper's case..."
-Phoebe
Piper Halliwell
is the middle child in every way, although sadly is soon to become the
oldest. She is constantly mediating between her two sisters, even when
she tries to avoid getting involved. Like Prue, she has an active power,
the power to freeze, which has come in handy at numerous times. Just recently
she has acquired another power and is able to blow things up at will.
Piper is seen
as the sweet romantic of the family, the innocent one who believes in true
love and long talks into the night. But ironically enough, she is also
the one with the most confusing love life. Her relationships with warlocks,
ghosts and whitelighters are something her sisters often joke about, but
the road to true love has been long and painful for Piper. Only now does
she seem to be finding some stability in her life as she enters her first
year of marriage to Leo.
When Piper first
became a witch, her life was already changing. The first time she used
her power was during an interview for a chef's job, which she ended up
getting. Her boyfriend at the time was Jeremy. The day she got her
job he took her to an abandoned warehouse, revealed the fact that he was
a warlock, and tried to murder her. Piper and her sisters vanquished Jeremy
that night but the memory of him made Piper a lot more cautious in the
following months.
A few weeks
later Piper fell in love with a ghost named Mark while trying to help him
bring his murderer to justice. She was later kidnapped by the murderer,
rescued by her sisters, and forced to say goodbye to the perfect man, who
just happened to be dead. Once again, Piper had fallen for the wrong guy.
During this
time she continued her job at Quake, the restaurant where she had first
interviewed. But instead of being a chef, she was moved to the manager
position. This led to a hectic schedule that was further complicated by
nights spent hunting demons and days spent gawking at their new, cute handyman,
Leo. After awhile Piper and Leo became closer and it seemed as if Piper
might have finally found the guy of her dreams. But then Leo left. He returned
a few weeks later, only to leave again. In the meantime, Piper fell for
a grad student named Josh. When he got a job in Beverly Hills, he offered
to turn it down in order to stay with her. But Piper told him to take the
job. She couldn't get Leo out of her mind or out of her heart.
Another few
weeks went by before Leo magically appeared in their attic, dying from
a poisoned arrow. He finally told Piper that he was a whitelighter, sent
to them for protection, and that he broke the rules by falling in love
with her. Piper was angry that he had kept the secret from her but realized
that he had needed to leave all those times because of his job and not
because he didn't love her. So using Leo's own powers, Piper managed to
heal him, and they both admitted their mutual feelings for each other.
A few months
passed and Piper opened up her own night club, which eventually became
a successful hot spot that hosted such bands as the Goo Goo Dolls and Dishwalla.
But because of their responsibilities, Piper and Leo could not continue
their relationship without experiencing numerous problems. Piper was in
for quite the surprise when she and her sisters were sent to the future.
Still living in the manor, she found herself with a beautiful daughter
named Melinda. The girl's father, and Piper's ex-husband, turned out to
be Leo. He and the future Piper hadn't been able to make their marriage
work and they had separated. Piper returned to the present with this knowledge,
but never told Leo. The two split soon after, worried that their relationship
was getting in the way of their duties. At this point Piper started dating
the next door neighbor, Dan, who surprisingly enough was not a warlock,
a ghost, or a whitelighter.
It took her
own death though, to make Piper realize that Dan was not the right guy
for her. While working in her club Piper became sick with the Arroyo Fever.
She died and was saved by Leo, who's wings were clipped because of what
he had done. He became mortal and eventually won Piper's heart once again.
But breaking up with Dan was hard on Piper, and her duties as a witch
only served to complicate things. She considered giving up her powers and
the situation became even worse when the doctor who had treated Piper,
died trying to discover how she had survived the deadly disease. Piper
eventually got over her guilt though, with a little help from Leo.
Their relationship
seemed doomed however, after a trip to the whitelighter world led to an
ultimatum from Leo's superiors. Either the two would have to stop dating
or he would be reassigned. Hoping to get around their restrictions, Leo
hastily proposed marriage. At first Piper wasn't too receptive to the idea,
but after discussing it with her sisters she decided to accept his offer.
A quick wedding was planned, then destroyed when the whitelighters found
out and stole Leo away mid ceremony. Piper was shattered by what had happened
and plagued by the idea that she would never see him again.
Still hurt by the
elders' meddling, Piper went on strike, refusing to help her sisters in
their Wiccan ways. She changed her mind after a little girl's life was
threatened and this led the whitelighters to reluctantly return her fiancé.
However, their relationship could not get in the way of their work and
they would have to wait on their marriage. Neither Piper nor Leo seemed
to mind these rules as long as they could stay together.
All of their
plans were threatened again when Piper was possessed by a demon. Prue decided
that the only way to save her was to kill her and let the demon infect
Leo who would then be able to bring her back. The plan worked perfectly
and they were able to vanquish the demon from Leo once the power of three
was restored. A few weeks later the couple learned that the whitelighters
had finally relented and would allow them to marry. But it seemed for a
moment, that all of their struggles had been in vain when Piper was nearly
killed for a second time. A demon threw a bladed sphere at her, hitting
her in the back. Luckily Leo was there to save her.
Not long after,
Piper's wedding day arrived. She was stunned to discover that the whitelighters,
apparently feeling bad about their previous actions, had sent her mother
down for the occasion. After being told that she was the heart of the family,
Piper was on her way to the alter. Unfortunately Prue nearly destroyed
the ceremony when her astral form went wild and ended up in jail. Piper
called off the wedding, but changed her mind later that evening when Prue
straightened everything out. Leo and Piper were married in front of their
family and friends in late February.
Later that spring
Piper almost became the first Halliwell sister to move out when she and
Leo packed their bags. A series of flashbacks revealed just how lonely
she had felt between her two feuding sisters when their grandmother had
died. But after discovering that Grams had been ready to strip their powers
to keep them together, Piper realized that she could not yet leave the
manor.
Piper was faced
with a very different dilemma though when she was granted a new power,
allowing her to blow things up. Unable to control it, she had knocked out
Prue, creamed a watermelon and nearly killed a ficus plant before finally
vanquishing her first demon. Her self doubt continued to grow after Phoebe
turned into a demon and a spell transformed Prue into a dog. Feeling helpless
she turned to Leo, but eventually came up with a plan that saved both of
her sisters.
Tragedy struck
though after she and Prue vanquished a demon on the local news. While Leo
and Phoebe went to the underworld to track down Cole, a disgruntled witch
shot through the house, hitting Piper. Prue desperately tried to save her
bleeding sister, rushing her through the crowd to the hospital. Sadly,
Leo could not hear her yelling for him. And after telling her older sister
that she loved her, Piper died.
Eventually Phoebe
was able to make a deal to turn back time and save her older sister. But
the deal seems to have turned sour, since the clock restarted at a time
when both Piper and Prue's lives are in jeopardy. Now only time will tell
who will live and who will die.
