"You can't say demons followed by
ohmigod. I'm new at this. I'm likely to panic."
-Paige
Paige Matthews
is the new found baby of the Halliwell family. The child of Patty and her
whitelighter Sam, Paige was given up for adoption at birth. Her parents
feared what the Elders would do, should they discover her existence. Her
adoptive parents died when she was younger but her sisters have now brought
their half sister into their family, introducing her to their mother, and
moving her into Prue's old room.
Paige is still
adjusting to her new status in the Wiccan world. Like Prue, she is also
able to move objects with her mind, although it involves the whitelighter
twist of orbing. Happily she is also able to move herself around, a technique
that has come in handy on numerous occasions.
Paige first
met her two remaining sisters at Prue's funeral. It is likely that the
spell Piper cast to call Prue back to her, instead called Paige to them.
Upon first shaking hands with Paige, Phoebe had a premonition of Paige
being killed by the same demon who murdered Prue. As she worked to save
Paige, she and Piper learned that the girl was actually their half sister,
a fact that stunned both of them. Paige learned of her new destiny soon
after, but wasn't too thrilled about her new abilities or her new family.
Her attitude changed though when they saved her from the Source's influence.
Evil had planned to pull her over to it's side, but Piper and Phoebe brought
her back. In the end, she used her power along with Leo to help the injured
Cole, thus solidifying her new role as a protector of the innocent.
Paige continued
to struggle with her new powers, and while Phoebe was ready and willing
to help her understand her new destiny, Piper had her reservations. Now
the eldest of the sisters, the usually gentle Piper was still too traumatized
over Prue's death to accept Paige into her life. It didn't help that Paige
stole the Book of Shadows from the house and used it in an ill-fated attempt
to help friends and punish enemies. This led to a consequence she hadn't
quite expected. In the meantime though, Piper fell into serious trouble
when she joined a group called the furies and, still consumed by her anger
and sadness, nearly became a demon herself. In the end only Paige could
save Piper, by reminding her that Prue's seeming abandonment of her was
the true source of her anger. This allowed Piper to let go and begin to
move on. Later Paige and Piper began to bond as Piper thanked her and welcomed
her into the family.
Next Paige was
forced to learn another lesson. Instead of patiently listening as Piper
tried to teach her more of the craft, she became jealous of Phoebe's abilities.
She accidentally switched bodies with her sister, leading to a small amount
of chaos and confusion as one by one, members of the family discovered
what had happened. Later she and her sisters were shrunk by a demon, and
once again it was up to Paige to save the day. With Piper's encouragement
she was able to use her obring power to free herself and her sisters from
the demon.
Not surpisingly,
Paige began to question her destiny after her many near deadly adventures.
Unfortunately her sisters chose this time to invite her to move in with
them, thus bringing the Charmed Ones together under one roof. Needless
to say Paige was a little distressed at the idea. She was concerned for
her privacy, but it soon became clear that her main worry was that she
would constantly be compared to Prue. She wasn't so sure that Piper and
Phoebe were ready to accept her as their sister, and not just as Prue's
replacement in the power of three.
At about the
same time, Paige got a crash course in past lives when she discovered that
her grim childhood fairy tale was true. Her past life as an evil enchantress
bent on capturing the love of a knight, came back to haunt her as both
the knight and the enchantress took a trip to the future. Paige was determined
to fight the enchantress off on her own, which led to near disaster as
her evil self tried to kill her. Thanks to Leo's healing touch however,
she made a speedy recovery in time to stop the enchantresses' plan, with
a little help from her sisters. Once she learned that they could indeed
work together and that they were willing to accept her not just as a witch,
but as a sister, she agreed to move in with them.
