"Speak of the angel..."
-Piper
Leo has
become an integral part of the Halliwells' lives. He is their whitelighter,
the one that provides them with information and assistance when things
get tough. He was sent to protect all of the sisters, but he has always
had a special affinity for Piper. He was never supposed to fall in love
with her, but he did, breaking all the rules, and even giving up his whitelighter
status for a time, all so that he could be with the woman he loves. In
February of 2001 he finally won the chance to become her husband after
previous objections sent down by his bosses.
Leo Wyatt
was a married soldier when he was killed during World War II. He was then
offered immortality and a position as a whitelighter, a protector of witches.
Over fifty years later he was sent to the three Halliwell sisters disguised
as a handyman. He turned out to be very handy indeed.
When Leo first
arrived at the manor both Piper and Phoebe were vying for his attentions.
Piper finally won out and she and Leo started dating. But Leo was never
allowed to reveal his secret to the love of his life. Piper couldn't know
what his job was or what he was doing there. She had to remain in the dark.
Unfortunately, Leo had to leave her and return from whence he came. This
was hard on both of them, especially since Piper couldn't really understand
his actions.
A few weeks
later Leo made another house call. But while at the manor he made the mistake
of letting his guard down, and Phoebe caught him floating in their living
room. After insisting that he wasn't a murderous warlock, Leo explained
his true identity and enlisted Phoebe's help in breaking off his relationship
with Piper. In the end, Piper seemed okay with the news and Leo left once
more. Phoebe eventually broke down and told her sisters who Leo was. But
fortunately for him, they did not believe her.
Not long after
this, Leo was helping a young woman evade a darklighter when he was shot
by a poisoned arrow. In a flash of white light he appeared in the Halliwells'
attic, much to Piper's surprise. She was less than happy to learn his secret,
but even more unhappy to learn that he was dying. In order to save him
Piper switched powers and used the whitelighter's healing touch. But she
could not find the power's trigger and Leo eventually died. Crying over
his body, Piper was finally able to tell Leo that she loved him, and the
power suddenly worked. Leo was saved.
Piper and Leo's
relationship became more complicated though as the months progressed. Leo
found it hard to do his job, because he was often away, and when he was
there he was worried about Piper, so much so that it distracted him from
his other duties. After learning that Piper's mother had fallen in love
with her own whitelighter and died because of it, Leo decided to leave
for good. He couldn't stop loving Piper, but his job was too important
to let anything, even her, get in the way of it.
This all changed
a few months later when Piper became fatally ill. He was not supposed to
aid her in anyway because her illness had not been caused by a demon or
warlock. Never the less, Leo couldn't let Piper die. He saved her life,
just as she had saved his, but his wings were clipped as a punishment.
He was stuck in San Francisco, now mortal. It was then that Leo decided
to get Piper back, even though she already dating her next door neighbor,
Dan. A few weeks after he saved her, Piper broke up with Dan and she and
Leo were free to be together. Unfortunately her decision coincided with
a darklighter's attack on Prue. Leo gave up his mortality in order to help
the sisters and once again became a whitelighter. But this did not change
how Piper and Leo felt about each other, and they decided to try and make
their relationship work.
After taking
Piper up to meet his fellow whitelighters, Leo was left with a choice.
He would either have to break up with Piper or be transferred away from
her. Instead he chose to propose and a week later they were prepared to
be married. In the middle of the ceremony though, he was ripped away, as
his superiors found out what they had done. He was very nearly transferred
forever, but Piper's decision to sacrifice their relationship for the greater
good changed all of that, and he was allowed to return, on the sole condition
that their love not interfere with their work.
The following
months created all kinds of trials as Leo tried to fit into the real world
and the normal life that Piper craved. His greatest fear however almost
came true as Piper nearly died not once, but twice. In addition to this,
Natalie, one of his oldest whitelighter friends, was killed by a demon.
However good news followed bad, when the elders made the couple's engagement
official. They were married later that winter in front of Piper's entire
family.
The newlyweds
nearly moved out of the manor, but chose not to, deciding instead to stay
with their family. Sadly their delayed honeymoon was delayed once again
when Piper received her new power and started blowing up various household
objects. Two weeks later, Leo healed both Prue and Piper after they were
seriously hurt by a demon. Soon after, he journeyed down to the underworld
in search of Phoebe and returned only to find that Piper had been killed.
His heart broken, he went back to Phoebe with the news. Phoebe decided
to make a deal with the Source, to turn back time in order to save Piper.
But unfortunately, once time is reset, he is not there to heal the two
elder sisters. Will he now lose his bride and his sister-in-law? Tune in
to find out.
