Job stress is one of the leading problems facing the work force today, resulting in lost productivity, decreased corporate profits and worker's comp claims. The Touch Therapy Research Institute has documented the positive effects of massage therapy on the job performance and stress reduction at the University of Miami Medical School. A basic 15 minute chair massage provided twice weekly results in decreased job stress and significant increase in productivity.

The duration of a chair massage is 15-20 minutes. Fully clothed, the employees or customer sits on a specially designed massage chair, while the therapist uses a variety of gliding, kneading and finger pressure techniques adapted from swedish, shiatsu and accupressure movements. During this short period of time, which is equal to that of a coffee break (yet more highly effective in alleviating stress) anxiety is reduced, stimulating alertness and increasing energy levels. Areas of focus include trauma at upper extremities, apex of the spine for headache, neck and lower back pain, muscle spasm and fatigue.
