I am a member of the Society of Glass Beadmakers. My lampwork career actually started with an interest in historical beads. I wanted to make a necklace based on a very early Anglo-Saxon piece and couldn't find the right glass beads anywhere. So, I bought a torch, some glass rods, and a small book on beadmaking and proceeded to make "a few" beads. The moment I lit that torch and melted my first blob of glass, something magical happened. Although I was an art student studying for my BFA in Classical Bronze Sculpture, I new that this was the art I had been searching for. The University didn't offer lampworking but, I did change my major to glass-blowing and immediately started taking glass-blowing classes. An unfortunate spinal injury forced me to turn from my glass-blowing career. After extensive rehabilitation, I was able to return to my torch and lampworking. Although I can no longer do large blown pieces, I have been able to incorporate my glass-blowing experience into my passion for lampworking. Lampworking has become a rewarding full-time career for me, allowing me to exercise my creative ideas and abilities. You can always find some of my work available for auction on Ebay, and at some fine art shows and bead shows throughout the year. |

My Artistic Philosophy Beads have been an important form of personal expression and adornment for thousands of years. Today, beads are as important as they have ever been. Festoones of beads adorn necks, wrists, ears, ankles and even fingers and bellybuttons! Colors, texture, shape and size are the basics of design. These components combined with images from nature and classical sculpture are the inspiration for my beads, bead sets and jewelry.
