About Me

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. I purchased my own domain name and finally moved my site. And of course updated it. I will be changing it a couple of times a week so please check often.

Original Lampwork Beads

This piece features one of my signature beads. The black goddess with a cubic zirconia stone in the belly button. The bottom half of this goddess is opaque black and the upper half/torso is a deep transparent charcoal with glittering silver dichroic dusted just under the surface. Her head is attached to a cork that fits down into her body cavity, she is a perfume bottle and measures approx 4 3/4 inches long and is suspended on a 25 inch necklace of matching black lampwork beads with glittering silver foil inclusions strung with austrian crystals, freshwater pearls and silver findings. She is truly a showpiece!

Lampwork is an ancient, at least 2nd. Century BC, technique of melting glass in an oil lamp and winding it around copper wires to form beads. After the beads cooled, the wire was removed with acids leaving a hole on which to string the bead. Today, the methods remain largely unchanged.

I melt glass rods in a National 8 torch (instead of an oil lamp) and wrap the molten glass around staneless steel rods coated with a bead release. Some beads require many layers of glass, precious metals, and special techniques which can take up to an hour to make in the torch. When the beads are finished in the torch, they are placed into a glass annealer to slowly cool them preventing thermal shock; breaking and cracking.

I am constantly experimenting and expanding my decorative techniques; while following the changing trends of fashion and colors keeping my beads and bead sets fresh and in style. However you will find many of my sets strongly influenced by ancient beads, colors, and techniques.
