Frequently Asked Questions
A selection of the most frequently asked questions

1

Q. Do you sell video's, DVD's , ponytails, other items ?
A. No, we don't sell videos nor do we sell anything else.

2

Q. Why don't you sell videos or anything else ?
A. We started our non-commercial site in 1998 with following objectives, still valid today:

          1) Featuring truly dramatic makeovers performed by professionals with the highest professional standards only.
          2) Featuring only volunteer models and paying full respect to the models rather than paying money to cut their hair off for (our) financial gain.
          3) The volunteer model decides how her hair will be cut, how SHE wants it, not how it is imposed on her because she needs the money
          4) Trying to raise the quality level of haircut photography
          5) Share our work free of charge.

3

Q. Do you think you will ever sell something, like videos, CD's, photos.
A. No. we don't.

4

Q. I would like to see more flattops
A. Oh yes, there is so much we would like too, ...but the hairstyles we show always are at the model's discression and free choice.

5

Q. Why are you so tough on copyrights when you freely publish your work on the net ?
A. Photographic work is protected by International copyright laws - on the Internet and any other form of media. The process of finding willing models, arranging and discussing the makeovers, paying stylists, expensive professional hardware, cameras, tape and film, publishing a website like ours, is both costly in time and terms of money. That is the "hardware" part. The "software" part is the "intellectual" property of images we create, the subject matter, the composition, the lighting, the mood. Those who have gone through lengths as we do in producing similar material know all to well how frustrating it is to find their work the next day on another site.
Besides all this, we have certain arrangements and agreements with models we want to honnour. These may include agreements to publish their makeover for a limited period of time : say 1 month, or 2 months depending on the arrangement. How can we keep control over these agreements if our images appear elsewhere ? These are some of the reasons why we are tough when it comes to copyright breaches, and we do not hesitate to have the offender's site deleted and/or him/her prosecuted.

6

Q. Can you send me pictures of makeover # XX or pictures of this particular hairstyle
A. We publish new material every day, remaining on the site under legal copyright for at least one month so we regret we cannnot send any other material on request.

7

Q. Why don't you show more shaved heads ?
A. The Catwalk Hair Salon is basically not about shaved heads.
Although we may have such a drastic makeover once in a while , our main focus remains on female short and extreme short cuts. We feature technical perfect and precision cuts demonstrating the various techniques involved The styles and cuts are creatively adapted to the model's features when required.

8

Q. Where exactly is your salon located ?
My wife wants to have her hair cut in your salon
A. The Catwalk Hair Salon is the name of our site. The makeovers are performed in a salon. For obvious privacy reasons we don't disclose the location nor discuss about it.

9

Q. Are there any models who have regretted a Catwalk shortcut ?
A. It is our main concern to make 100 percent sure this never happens. We are very happy we have not yet had a dissapointed model and want to keep it that way. Hair cut off in just seconds takes sometimes years to grow. Each style is discussed well in advance and the stylist's professional and artistic approach guides the models through a somertimes difficult decision. Unless a model insists , the stylist will always work in stages. The model always can change her mind and back off during the cut when she feels unconfortable.

10

Q. Do you stay in contact with the models ?
A. We always do and follow up the outcome of their dramatic makeover.

11

Q. Why don't you show less pictures in a shorter period of time ?
A. We try to give the best of both worlds. At the same time we receive many request why we don't show more pictures of a particular makeover. Almost all makeovers are published in a preview form, as well as an even more detailed version (digital highlight, full version) later on

12

Q. I want to see more pictures of makeover # ...
A. You certainly will in time unless the makeover has already been featured in all it's forms - pre-preview, preview, full digital version.

13

Q. May I download any of your pictures on my hard drive, or any other storage medium for my personal use only ?
A. In the strict sence of copyright this is not allowed but we have no objection if you do keeping in mind our pictures may not be distributed to other persons, used on the net or anywhere else. In case of doubt you may always contact us. The only exception are the pages and pictures we protect with right click code, pictures from our previews and new page. All those pictures will become available at some point in time

14

Q. Where can I find makeover # ...,
Why don't you feature makeover ... once more ?
Why don't you leave available the entire version of each makeover since # 1 ?

A. There are four good reasons:

1) Serverspace and bandwith are restricted and becomes increasingly more expensive.

Rather than archiving already published material, the Catwalk prefers featuring new material every day of the year.

2) We don't want to spend much more than we already are spending today (*) buying more server space. Despite the substantial continuous fixed costs we have to pay to run the site, it is free of charge for everyone since 1989. We do not sell anything or ask for your financial contribution as almost other hair sites do.
(*) Just consider over fourhundred makeovers. Fourhundred sixty times expensive salon & professional stylists fees + the models travel expences, we have paid and will continue to pay out of our pockets.
We shot in excess of 350.000 digital makeover and model photos. That's exactly four expensive professional digital SLR camera bodies worn out - shutter life of a DSLR is anything between 40 and 100.000 shots. We has two flash heads worn out.

3) The longer our material is kept online, the bigger chances are our property will be stolen and published elsewhere,

4) Last, but most certainly not least, the Catwalk featured models (volunteers) may not be all happy to see their pictures om the net for years on and on. That's why we have a standard agreement with them for a publication, limited in time.

Those who visit us regularly and download what they like - see above Q &A 13 - are able to view the complete makeover off line as long and as much as they like.
As a rule of thumb each part remains at least 3 to 4 weeks available for download

15

Q. I want to see your stylist getting a buzz cut, why don't you do a feature about your stylist
A. Regret, no chance of seeing the stylist featured as a model and we respect their wishes not to be featured separately

16

Q. What is the stylist's name , I want to know more about her , how can I contact her ?
A. Sorry, we don't disclose private details

17

Q. When do you plan to feature makeover # ... in full detail?
A. To be honest with you, we just don't know. We never plan our updates beyond one week.

18

Q. Why don't you reply to my email ?
A. Sorry, we do not reply personally by email. The vast majority of questions we are asked - unless they are of the nature ... i want to see more of model # .. - are published together with our reply on the site.

19

Q. Can you give me the email address and name of model # ...
A. Sorry, we don't disclose private details of our models.

20

Q. I cannot find makeover # ... , where can I find your archives ?
A. We offer no archives
All are makeovers are shown in a preview mode, later in full detail available for many weeks to view
The status of each makeover can be seen at all times from the 'view of the back' page

21

Q. I can't access some of your pages . Error codes: IE cannot open the site or operation aborted
A. There are dozens of reasons why some people cannot view some particular site(s). Try a simple google search and you will see the problem described so many times for a variety of reasons, spyware, addware, bugs, corrupted files, corrupted cache, cookies, damaged or corrupt IE "plug in" on your computer etc etc. One thing is common: these kind of problems only occur with MS Internet Explorer, mostly with MSIE 6 . See some links below on this subject. If the Catwalk is important to you and you cannot fix the problem , there is only one advice we can give : download an alternative free of charge browser like Opera, Netscape 8 or the magnificent Firefox 1.04. The odds are you will appreciate the alternative so much you will stop using IE 6 just as we did a long time ago
