Nicky
Excuse me.
Mike
Can't you see we're busy?
Nicky
Yes, I can, but I'm looking for Ryan and Renee Knight. Their foster parents told us that we could find them here.
Renee
I'm Renee Knight. What can I do for you?
Jared
Well, first where's your brother?
Renee
I don't know. He's here somewhere.
Nicky
Well can you find him, please? We really need to talk to you both.
Renee
O.K. Let's see, oh he's over there studying with his girlfriend.
Jared
Let's go talk to him. Now preferably.
Renee
Ah, Oh all right, let's go.
Nicky
Excuse me are you Ryan Knight?
Ryan
Yeah but I'm busy right now
Samantha
Ryan, I'll talk to you later. I'm already later for cheerleading practice.
Ryan
O.K. sweetheart. Now that you've driven off my girlfriend, what can I do for you?
Jared
Sorry about that. Nicky here will explain everything. I need to go make a phone call.
Nicky
All right. So, who's the oldest?
Ryan
I am so.
Nicky
So, our research has turned up that you two are the only living descendants of King Glen the 1st. As such Ryan, you are now the new King of Everlon.
Renee
You're kidding right?
Ryan
Yea, I mean this is some kind of joke?
Nicky
No, I'm very serious. My name is Nicole Jones and that's my partner Jared Donaldson.
Mike
Wow, I can't believe my girlfriends a real live princess. I can't wait to tell everyone, see ya.
Renee
Mike, no don't, Uh!
Ryan
Why us?
Renee
Yeah, and Why now?
Nicky
I told you, you are the only living descendants. As for the now well that would take to long to explain. Here I had these copies made of your family history from the official record book. There's even a map of the island in there. Here I made a copy for both of you.
Ryan
Thanks.
Renee
Yeah, thanks.
[Still on the phone Jared could be heard yelling at someone.]
Jared
What? No, he can't George! George! Uh!
[Suddenly Jared slammed the phone down and started walking over to the table.]
Renee
What's wrong with him?
Nicky
I don't know but I think we're about to find out. What's wrong Jared? What was all that about?
Jared
George just told me that the King of Zardonia has moved the date of his arrival from the end of next week to next Saturday.
Nicky
Next Saturday?! No way he'll never be ready in time.
Ryan
What's the big deal? If both countries want peace then there shouldn't be any problems. Ever movie I've ever seen there's always someone there to help.
Renee
Yeah, with a Royal Advisor there to help, what could possibly go wrong.
Jared
What could go wrong? Everything, you have to have tutors and attend the school of fine manners.
Ryan
Tutors?
Renee
School of fine manners?
Jared
Yes both tutors and the school of fine manners.
Ryan
If I am to be the new king then why do I still have to go to school?
Nicky
If you never went to school then you'd never learn anything.
Jared
Especially since you'll be in a new country. You'll have to learn all about our country, about the rules and regulations of being royalty and about the countries around us.
Nicky
Understand.
Ryan
Yeah, I understand.
Jared
Look, you don't have to worry about fitting in, it's a great country you'll love it. George also said that Mark would be waiting for us at the airport.
Nicky
Good, then we'd better get going. Look, I'm sorry but I'm afraid we're going to have to leave right away or else will miss our flight. Now say goodbye to your sister and let's go.
Renee
What!? I thought I was going too.
Ryan
Yeah, so did I.
Nicky
You still can if you want, when you turn 18.
Jared
Nicky isn't very sensitive, look if it weren't absolutely necessary, we would've waited, but we can't. I'm sorry.
Renee
So am I.
Ryan
Well it looks like you want have to put up with me anymore. Plus no more football games, pep rallies or parties. You can do what you want.
Renee
Yeah, I'm free; will you at least write to me?
Ryan
You bet all the time.
Nicky
Well goodbye.
Ryan
Bye.
[Renee sat back down and when she saw the car drive away she looked down at the book trying to hold back the tears, when a familiar voice startled her.]
Kari
Hi Renee, What's the matter?
Renee
Huh, oh Hi Kari. Nothing I'm fine.
Kari
You don't look fine. What's wrong?
Renee
I told you nothing.
Kari
Well then why do you look like your on the verge of tears and where did you get that cool looking book?
Renee
Well if you must know it just so happens that Ryan and I are really royalty from another country.
Kari
O.K. did I miss something here? Are you writing a story or something?
Renee
No, I'm serious. It's all here in this book. Ah, stupid book. [She pushes it towards Kari.] Now I'm all alone for the first time in my life. The diner's just about empty.
Kari
No wonder it's just about dinnertime.
Renee
To think an hour ago all I had to worry about was a history test. Now we are history, at least to one country, anyway. He's gone off to be King of some country called Everlon and all I have left is that book on our family history. Oh well, what does it says anyway?
Kari
Well let's see. This is the history of the Royal families of Everlon. Let's see this one's dated March 1692. King Glen the 2nd was a very good and very wise king. Everyone in the land was happy or so they thought. The kings little sister tired of everyday life as a princess. She had meet, fell in love and then married Prince Jake of Arcadia. With her brother king and Jake the youngest of five brothers, he would never make king. So, they set sail for America to start a new life together.
This all sounds like a fairy tale. I feel like I should've started with Once upon a time, long ago, in a land far, far away.
Renee
It does, doesn't it? I wonder if there's anything more recent. Let me see, here we go; this entry's dated 3 months ago.
King Michael and Queen Emily were returning with news of peace where for so many years only war had been before. Now finally peace had come between Everlon and Zardonia. That peace may be short lived for on that same historic voyage a storm arose very quickly the boat was destroyed there were no survivors. The next day a messenger arrived to tell the people of Everlon the news of both the treaty and of the king and queen's death's. With this news a committee was formed to find the legal heirs to the throne.
Renee
That explains why they where so desperate.
Kari
What else does it say?
Renee
Let's see, here we are. Um, oh, Ah, For you see sadly the king and queen had no children of their own. They did, however have a daughter, Robin whom they adopted when she was 3 after her mothers strange disappearance. They searched for her but to no avail; So, Robin was accepted into the royal family. However, since she is adopted she is only allowed to rule until the legal heirs can be found.
Kari
I feel sorry for her.
Renee
Why?
Kari
Well all these years she's been trained as a princess. Now Ryan's going to be king, which means she will be dethroned.
Renee
Wow, I never thought about that. Let's see what else this book has to say.
Kari
Brad Johnson and George Pool the current keepers of the National Royal Archives in Everlon were searching through the files in an effort to find the legal heirs. Brad had discovered that King Glen the 1st had two children a boy and a girl. Prince Glen the 2nd assumed the throne at age 17, after the tragic death of his father. His little sister Princess Sarah moved to America. After doing research on her family history he found her descendents. George had suggested wiring them and having them come out. Brad told them that it was not that simple. For the only living descendants were 15-year-old twins Ryan and Renee Knight.
Renee
How about that we're already in this book.
Kari
Where was I, oh yeah here we go. The King of Zardonia hearing of the tragedy called and wanted to discuss the terms of the peace treaty with the new ruler of Everlon. Brad assigned three operatives. Nicole Jones and Jared Donaldson are to find and retrieve the children and get them ready to meet the King of Zardonia. Mark Cannon would contact Social Services and take care of all the necessary paperwork.
Renee
Retrieve the children, in my opinion that means both, not just take the oldest and run.
Kari
That's the way it sounds to me.
Renee
That'll probably be the last time I see Ryan. He's probably on a plane by now on his way to be king.
Kari
I still can't believe my best friends a princess.
Ryan
Renee, Renee you still here?
Renee
Ryan, what are you doing here? I thought you'd be at the airport by now.
Ryan
I was about halfway there, when I insisted we turn around and come back.
Renee
Why?
Ryan
Ever since we left all they've talked about is their country and what would be expected of me. The more they talked the more I missed you.
Renee
Really?
Ryan
Yeah, I realized that once I'm in their country I'd be all alone, no friends, no family, no nothing. Then I remembered the promise we made to each other when we were 6, right after our parents' death. Do you remember?
Renee
Of course I remember. How could I forget? We said that we'd be together forever. That no matter what happened; we'd always find a way to be together.
Ryan
I meant that too. That's why I want you to come with me.
Renee
What? But they said…
Ryan
I don't care what they said. If you don't go, then I don't go.
Nicky
Ryan you don't seem to understand the seriousness of the situation.
Ryan
No, I understand, but your the one's who don't seem to understand. Renee means the world to me, so if you don't allow Renee to go with me, then I'll sign the rights of the kingdom over to Robin and she can rule, because I won't go.
Jared
You wouldn't dare.
Ryan
Try me.
Jared
Ryan please, be reasonable about this.
Ryan
I've given the matter a lot of thought and I've decided that she can be my public relations officer and my little sister all at the same time. So, what do you say? Will you come with me?
Renee
Well…
Ryan
Renee!
Renee
Of course, I'll come with you. After all you are my big brother and I do love you.
[They hugged]
Kari
That is so sweet.
Renee
[Hugging Kari] Bye Kari, I'll miss you.
Kari
Bye Renee. Promise you won't forget me and that you'll write every chance you get.
Renee
I could never forget my best friend. I promise I'll write and tell you everything.
[Later in Everlon]
Jacob
Greetings I am Jacob the butler. I'm sorry that Miss Robin's not here to greet you but I'm afraid she's anything but pleased about your arrival and has said that she doesn't wish to meet you.
Renee
Can you really blame her? I mean would you like it if someone were to just walk in off the street and take away your kingdom? I don't think so.
Ryan
Renee's right. Take us to Robin.
Jacob
As you wish…she's in there.
Ryan
Thank you Jacob.
Jacob
As you wish.
Renee
Hello Robin, I'm Renee and this is my brother Ryan.
Ryan
Hi Robin.
Robin
Hi, So you're the new king.
Ryan
Yeah, What's wrong you look upset.
Robin
Nothing I'm fine.
Renee
Yeah, you look it.
Robin
I said I'm fine. Now leave me alone.
Ryan
Look, we didn't come to upset you.
Robin
You didn't, then why did you come?
Ryan
We came to talk.
Robin
About what?
Renee
Well, all the way here we were being told what all we had to learn and do. I got a headache just listening to it all.
Robin
What's your point?
Ryan
Our point is it just all seems so overwhelming.
Robin
And?
Renee
And we decided on the way here to come and ask you how you deal with everything and still keep your sanity all at the same time?
Robin
Why should I tell you? If it weren't for you two then I'd be ruler.
Renee
Maybe, maybe not, Look we didn't come here to fight with you.
Robin
You didn't?
Ryan
No, of course not. We just want to be your friends.
Robin
What did you mean by maybe? When I told I'd be ruler if it weren't for you.
Ryan
Renee just meant that if it wasn't us, then it could've been someone else. Did you ever think of that?
Robin
No, maybe you're right; The answer is fun
Renee
Excuse me?
Robin
You asked how I deal with everything and not go crazy. The answer is fun. Whenever possible you try to find a way to make it into a game or something. That helps keep it from being so stressful.
Renee
That really works?
Robin
Most of the time, I can show you if you'd like. That is if you still want to be friends?
Renee
Of course we do.
Ryan
Hey I just thought of something.
Renee
Oh, no not again?
Ryan
Ha, ha very funny, look um Robin I told Renee that she could be my public relations officer and I was just thinking…
Renee
You know too much thinking can be bad for you.
Ryan
Would you be quiet? As I was saying, since you were born here you'd know a lot more about this country than e ever would. So why don't you two share the job? That is if you don't mind Renee?
Renee
No, I don't mind, Are you kidding I think that's a great idea.
Robin
I don't know.
Renee
Come on, it'll be fun.
Robin
Are you sure about this? I mean who ever heard of a princess and a former princess being public relations officers? Besides we have people for that.
Renee
Well then we can help them out and get to know a little bit about the people. There's no law against it is there?
Robin
No, at least I don't think so.
Renee
Also as far as we're concerned you'll always be a princess. We'll even tell the whole country, you were brought into the royal family and accepted as if you were royalty. And if we have anything to say about it it's going to stay that way.
Robin
Do you really mean that?
Ryan
Of course we really mean that.
Robin
I don't know what to say.
Renee
Just say yes.
Robin
All right, yes.
Ryan
Great now that that's settled let's go get ready to meet the King of Zardonia next Saturday.
[Next Sunday Renee received a surprise visit from Kari.]
Jacob
Miss Renee there is someone here to see you.
Renee
Someone's here to see me? Well show them in.
Kari
Hi Renee.
Renee
Kari what are you doing here? How did you get here?
Kari
My brothers a pilot, He was bring the people that was sent to retrieve the stuff you left at your foster parents house back here and he said I could tag along.
Renee
I'm so happy to see you.
Kari
So how did things go with the king?
Renee
They went great.
Kari
Don't keep me in suspense tell me what happened?
Renee
Well it was Saturday and the time had come for us to meet the famous King of Zardonia. Everyone was all dressed up and ready for the party. Robin had on a beautiful and elegant looking light blue dress. She had a sapphire and pearl tiara on top of her long flowing brown hair. She even had long dangling pearl earrings and a pearl necklace.
Kari
What did you have on?
Renee
I on the other hand chose a bright red dress with capped sleeves, a tight bodies and a billowing skirt. I was also wearing a red ruby tiara with a diamond in the center. It looked perfect with the perm they put in my now shoulder length black hair.
Kari
I noticed that why did you cut it?
Renee
I don't know when they were fixing it for the party they said it would look better this way.
Kari
It looks good. What did Ryan wear to the party?
Renee
Ryan looked really good in his tuxedo. He had a black coat, a white tie and vest. He also wore a blue and red diamond shaped amulet around his neck from a golden cord. They were even able to get all the moose out of his thick black hair and take it from a small spike to none at all. In fact it's the first time in a long time that I'd ever seen it that neatly combed.
Kari
Does he still have it like that? I'd like to see it.
Renee
No, he changed it back right after the party.
Kari
Too bad, I'd like to seen it. How did the party itself go?
Renee
It went great. They decided to wait till the King of Zardonia arrived before performing the crowning ceremony. I even heard they invited people from other countries to attend. After the ceremony it came time to discuss the treaty.
Kari
Was it a hard negotiation?
Renee
Actually it turned out that all the king wanted to do was discuss the merits of the treaty that had been made with the late king and queen to be sure that peace was maintained. The king was so satisfied with both the treaty and us that he introduced his daughter Princess Kimberly to Ryan, his son Sammy to Robin and his nephew Prince Mathew of Zeona to me.
Kari
Is he cute?
Renee
Yeah.
Kari
You know what I kind a think this is like a fairy tale.
Renee
Really, Well I don't know if we're in a fairy tale or not but I have a feeling that we're all going to live happily ever after.
Kari
Well then I guess you might say that this is The End.
