We both came to U.S. when we were teenagers.
Both went to high school, college, and grad school in this country.
We actually have quite similar backgrounds, contrary to the common belief.
It seems quite hard for other people to understand though.
I'm hopeful that people will be more open minded as time goes on.
But in the meantime, it's hard when you have to work with people who are not as accepting.
Any comments?

We are interested in hearing from other couples in which one partner is Chinese, the other American.
Our situation (American female, Chinese male) is statistically rare;
only about 20-25% of Chinese-American matches are like this.
If anyone else is in a similar relationship, please let us know.
We met when I (Paige) went to Changsha in August 1999 as an English teacher,
and Shijun was my Chinese teacher and friend.
He is now here on a K-1 visa and our wedding is scheduled for January 20th.
We're thrilled and happy but I am a little apprehensive about
the cultural, religious, and other hurdles we will have to face together.

Boy ...It ain't easy.
I met Jie on the internet. I live in Spain now and I have visited my girlfriend in China last year.
We plan to marry in 2001 either in England or China and live in Spain
but I am at a loss with all the legal jargon of passports, exit visas, entry visas etc.
Is it better to marry in China or the U.K ?
At the moment my fiancee is trying to get a passport, which is not easy but expensive.
Can anybody give me advice? I would be grateful.....
Steve

After two years of separation--he in Stockholm and I in New York, we finally live together now in Stockholm, Sweden.
We treasure every day as a gift and enjoy our lives tremendously.
We feel we have found our soul mates.

Kelvin and I met in May 2000 on the internet.
I have never dated anyone from an Asian background.
However I have grown to love him for who he is.
It was indeed awkward, being a Puerto-rican American female and he being a Chinese American male.
In the past 9 months he and I have learned a lot about one another.
He has became my best friend and my world.

I met my wife Janet in Shanghai China when I was there working for the summer.
We were engaged and we were surprised how hard it was to get information and do the paerwork to get married.
We struggled for a couple months and finally had to get legal advice. We got the documents prepared and we were married june 9th 2002.
More than 1 year after our engagement. I just tell her these were tests of our love, but don't get discouraged if you really love that person you will do anything to be with them.
Now I wait the long road for the immigration process and hopefully in a couple months we can be together here in America.
When I read this website for international couples it gave me strenght not to give up and I guess I wasn't the only one having problems to.
Well thanks and good luck.

Yuan and I met while I was doing a search on finding Asian, female, models for my website.
I am a photographer/ makeup & hair stylist and was looking to do some tfp (time for print) photo shoots for my site!
He came across my page and we began writing what seemed like little short 3 page novels.
That became 2 - 4 hour conversations, which led to us meeting and falling deeply in love!
Boy, I tell you when you have finally met your soul mate; it's such an overwhelming feeling.
You want to smile, cry, and laugh all at the same time!
You feel sad for the lost time that you two have missed in each others lives,
but feel incredibly and overwhelmingly happy for the new, forever lives that you two can begin.
That is what happened with us. We wondered how can 2 people like ourselves, be so much alike and have shared so many of the same experiences.
We finish each other's thoughts/sentences.
We are each other's missing puzzles and we just hold each other and cry a lot of the time!
His parents are Traditional Chinese, however they have embraced me as a future daughter and love me.
My parents totally dote on him and see him as their future son as he already calls them mom and dad.
This first unexpected relationship is finally the one that's right.
We feel so incredibly lucky that we have found one another and have been planning our lives together daily!

We met on the internet at ICQ and fell in love with each other during the next few weeks while chatting.
When we first met we already knew it was love.
4 months later we moved in our own flat, another 3 months later we planned to marry.
We met for the first time on December, 14th of 2003.
We were married on the same day of 2004.
Our childhood backgrounds couldn't be more different.
Jinghong grew up in the country of a Southern Chinese town with his traditional family, Julia has lived all her life in Germany.
Now we live in Julia's home country where Jinghong studies at the university for a second time (he graduated in China already 5 years ago).
Will we live in China or in Germany later... the future will show it.
But our children will grow up with both languages and cultures, that's for sure.
