This is their story, from Ulrike's email of 12 February 1998:
"Here goes our HAPPY ADVENTUROUS story - that's how Trevor and Ulrike met:
I left Vienna in 1988 to take up a job within the European Space Business in The Netherlands.
Independently, Trevor left the UK in the same year, also taking up a position in the same field but in a different company.
It so happened, that from 1989-1990 we were linked together through the same satellite building project and knew of each other's existance because we had talked on the phone, exchanged faxes etc. BUT NEVER met "in persona".
In March 1991, at the end of our satellite project, both our jobs took us to French Guyana where the European carrier ARIANE was launched into space, carrying our specific satellite as a payload. And that's where we met on the first day of our individual arrival in Kourou.
Within a week it had clicked between us - love at first sight - and we became inseparable, which was of course very visible to both our colleagues (one can't hide to be totally in love, can you !!!??!).
We spent the entire 2 months in Guyana's wilderness being very close, we worked together, enjoyed a lot of jungle trips to the Indians, to Suriname, did a lot of exiting things and at the end successfully launched our satellite into space.
Back in Holland we decided that we were made for each other and launched our FUTURE LIFE TOGETHER AS A COUPLE: we met each other's respective families in Austria and England, got engaged and moved together into a bigger appartment where we lived, as DINKs, for nearly 5 years.
Then in the 6th year of our relationship, in May 1996 I became pregnant (planned!), we bought a house in Den Haag, having decided to stay with both our jobs in Holland for the moment. We moved into our new house plus married in the same year and in Jan. 1997 Alexander Julian was born to his parents who were and are over the moon with happiness.
Our son is an addition to our otherwise very harmonious life as a 'two-some': he made us complete as a family and as individuals.
.......... and they lived happily ever after. "
