Deirdre (U.S.A.) and Ahmed (Yemen)
E-mail: whitelace5868©yahoo.com
I am involved with a man born and raised in Yemen. He moved here 11 years ago, and owns a successful business.
He has asked me to marry him and I am a little concerned because of his culture.
Although he treats me like a goddess now I am afraid he will change once we are married.
I dont know what his expectations of me as a wife are except that he does not want me to work and for me to stay home with the children,
which is another issue because I have two from a previous marriage and he has one.
Could someone please give me some advice on what to expect in this marriage?

Me and Rodney have been together for 4 months and we are getting engaged in Zimbabwe in December 2001.
I am 17 and he is 23. My friends think I am stupid,
but my sister supports our relationship because she knows how much we love each other.
I just don't ever want to be with anyone else, and neither does he. I have never been this happy in my life.
If you read this Rodney, I love you always.

E-mail: judygwen©hotmail.com
We met in one of my company's business conference at Phuket '99, amongst the crowd,
under that romantic moonlight, with our tequila & margarita, accompanied by the live band on oldies...
From then, we were on air, wireless & IDD most of the time during our 3 years long distance relationship.
Thanks to God, our love is deep as the ocean, for now our LDR is coming to a talking point
on (International) Marriage, intended to be on 2.2. 2002, happening in Korea.
We've been thru' thick & thin, and we are sure even if there are more difficulties
to come in the near & future, we would work things out together and trust in God...
Having to give up everything I have in Singapore (except my native citizenship), I have to ernestly look for a job in Korea
before our wedding and how could I apply for a F-2 visa, avoiding the F-1 for I really want to work in Korea?
Bum Seok & I would appreciated your kind advice.
With thanks & Best wishes to all!

At the end we got married. After we had our first son for a week, he left for the Meditarranean Sea for 6 months military tour/duty.

I met Ben when I was studying as an exchange student at Canterbury Christ Church College during my sophomore year.
We have now been dating for three years and plan to marry as soon as we have enough money to do it in style (probably 2002 or 2003).
I intend to move to the United Kingdom, but am having difficulties in finding information on how to do so.
We've also discussed that moving to somewhere like Australia could be a possibility.
Ben has spent the last three summers with me in Chicago as well as last Christmas.
I was with him for in Salisbury, Wiltshire for our first two Christmases together.
It was awful being separated for much of the time, but we both had to finish university and now we are both officially done!
We would love to hear from any other Brit/Yank couples as well.

I was introduced to my sweetheart in the States through my church in 1979. We married about three years later.
We moved to Japan about 14 years ago. We have four children, all boys.
Our first son was born in the US and is 16, almost 17. Our other boys were born here, in Japan. They are 14, 13, and 9.
My sweetheart is 50 and I am 46. I don't mind living in Japan.
Our kids are NOT bilingual and that makes for problems between them and me, their mom, sometimes.
I can speak Japanese pretty fluently but there are still gaps. I am only semi-literate. I can read and write kana.
I can read only a limited amount of kanji. I can read more kanji than I can write.

Bayonne, NJ, U.S.A.
E-mail: mjohnson9177©yahoo.com
I'm 17, just out of high school, and in my 3rd year of an international penpal club I'd come across in the back of Writer's Digest.
I came across a description of a nice guy with a very ordinary name and wrote him as we seemed to have shared the same interests.
He wrote back and we exchanged pictures a few months later. His picture was such a bad one that my mother asked if he was really a convict in jail.
I'd assured her this club didn't do that (because they really don't). He seemed nice enough so I kept writing him.
A year later he wrote he would be coming to New York and would I like to meet him? He gave me his number so we could talk about it on the phone.
This was a big disaster as his accent was so thick that to this day I don't know what we spoke about.
However, I was mesmerized by his voice. It was deep and soft and although I didn't understand what he said, I just LOVED how he said it:)
A month later he flew to NY and we met in the lobby of his! hotel. His picture did NOT do him justice and I was amazed at how gorgeous he was:)
I was instantly caught by his smile and wonderful green eyes (I'm a sucker for an accent and light eyes )
and ordinarily I'd become an elephant on rollerskates but I noticed he was pretty nervous too so I swallowed up my nervousness
and focused on making him feel comfortable as we toured the city.
He wound up meeting my clueless (but relatively harmless) uncle
who made some embarrassing comments and questions and I thought I'd never seem him again.
However, he wrote and told me how much he enjoyed our meeting. The following year he visited for his birthday and I found myself falling in love with him.
This was dangerous as I already found relationships to be a nuisance and saw a long distance relationship as an impossibility.
Also, I knew there was no way he could ever feel anything for me but after some persuasion by my family
who SWORE they saw him looking at me that way, I decided to write him about how I felt.
We had just gotten internet access by then so I received an email telling me he'd gotten my letter and would send me a reply soon.
I was sure he was trying to let me down easy but I soon received an email confessing longwithheld feelings!
We decided to take it slow and see where the relationship went as we were both new to it all.
We saw each other twice a year after that, in April 1999 he surprised me with a visit and proposed April 1st (I thought it was an April Fools Joke ).
I met his family that July (TOTALLY nervous but they were nice ) and after dealing with the K1 Visa crap and the agonizing wait,
we were granted the visa and seven months ago we were married in the basement of a library by the Mayor of my town (that's where his office was).
We are now working on his green card and aiming to renew our vows next September on the shores of Puerto Rico:)
You can find a pic of us on our website.
We are currently working on a more updated one documenting our struggles as a married couple and his adaptation to US life:)

We grew from one another and we make each other better people.Though we are happily married there will always be the cultural difference.
I wish more people understood the chanlenges of mix cultural marriage.
When raising our child has ben the biggest controversy of all. We just don't think the same way.
That makes things very difficult. Though time and dedication will get us through.

We are both very much in love even tho we are now separated by 10,000 miles awaiting the spousal visa approval.
WE both see our marriage as exciting and a challenge as we both love challenges!
We have had the usual problems asscociated mainly with cultural differences but our strong relationship with GOD
has strengthened our resolve and helped to build our foundation of our marriage through each little argument we have endured.
We welcome these misunderstandings because in the end we are much the better for it.
