We mailed papers for K-Visa 06-06/2001. Waited a month to find out date for action.
Found out papers never arrived at I.N.S. Were delivered by Postal Serv. to wrong address even though sent priority mail.
Congressman helped to track postal address and get mail returned by addressee to the I.N.S.
Was successful.Approved on Sep.28.2001. Papers sent to Embassy in Phnom Penh Cambodia.
They sent packet #3 to my fiancee'...received it, filled it out, sent ot back the next day (Nov 26, 2001).
On Dec 2, 2001 was told to prepare for interview in Phnom Penh,Cambodia.
On Dec.6, 2001 we were sent letter saying to cancel those plans, and that the embassy was closing.
Told we would have to interview in Bangkok, Thailand.
Papers forwarded to Thailand and we were told 4 weeks later they never arrived.
Had to resubmit all papers, hers and mine, which took 2 months.
Papers were received there in Thailand in April, but they would not give my fiancee'
her physical without proof of our petition being accepted by our Government.
She had to get her physical in Cambodia, even though the Interview would be in Thailand,
so they had no papers of proof in Cambodia and would not do this.
So I had to again go to the Congressman, who contacted the Hospital there alkong
with a letter from the State Dept. telling them to grant the physical.
So they gave us a physical date on June 2, 2002.
She passed and results faxed to Thailand 5 days later on a Friday.
Monday they contacted us giving us an interview date on July 12, 2002.
So I complained that after all that waiting they still could not get a sooner date after all we'd gone thru.
But they did nothing. On June 12,2002,I was contacted by the Congressman's Office
asking me to inform my fiancee' that they had received a cancellation, and could she interview on June 28,2002 instead.
Needless to say, we accepted and are 12 days away from receiving our visa, and she will be here shortly after.
I guess if this is a typical story, I am in the frame of mind
to feel sorry for anyone going thru this process from Cambodia.
I am in the process of trying to design, or come up with a plan for a website, and pictures.
I will inform you if this were to take place.
Thanks...
Mr Randy Selln

I met my husband a year ago and we recently got married on June 8th.
I will be moving to Germany on the June 30th.
He is a German national and I am African-American.
I am anxious and excited about my new married life in another country.
Ironically, my husband's beloved grandmother was a very active Nazi wife during WWII,
but she has accepted my husband's marriage with open arms and so has his family.

I am an African-American mother of three, married to a Mexican man.
I had two African-American sons before we got married, he had no children,
and I just gave birth to our first child, who is a girl.
My boys have never had a father, so it is hard to get use to having a father and my husband has never been a father before,
but now he is the father to two boys who are not of the same race as he is.
The differences in food, language, and clothing not to mention hair.
Mexican don't have to put oil or grease in their hair but African-American people do.
We brush our hair different and cut and style our hair different.
Now, we have a daughter, who we have to teach two different cultures too, because both are her heritage.
We are trying to teach my sons the Spanish language, but I have always been strong on teaching them their black history.
My husband is ready and willing to learn about black history and I'm having fun teaching him what I know.
Yeah, in my household it's a mad house, but all in all, I think we are doing pretty good.

My husband and I met on Matchdoctor.com in June of 2000.
He started to e-mail me as a joke because I said I only wanted a Christian,
then I began to realize that Islam wasn't what I thought it was at all (I knew nothing about it),
then I came to Egypt in September of 2000 for a 2 week visit and we were married by the end of the first week!
I converted to Islam after 6 months (actually reverted since we believe this to be the true religion).
We live here in Egypt and now have a beautiful daughter :)
I would love to hear from others and exchange advice, experiences, etc.!

We were engaged and we were surprised how hard it was to get information and do the paerwork to get married.
We struggled for a couple months and finally had to get legal advice. We got the documents prepared and we were married june 9th 2002.
More than 1 year after our engagement. I just tell her these were tests of our love, but don't get discouraged if you really love that person you will do anything to be with them.
Now I wait the long road for the immigration process and hopefully in a couple months we can be together here in America.
When I read this website for international couples it gave me strenght not to give up and I guess I wasn't the only one having problems to.

We met in graduate school (USA) and fell in love.
Although both of our families are supportive of us, our greatest problem so far has been deciding where to live, Italy or USA.
Learning Chinese is simply not possible, and after 5 years in Italy, my Italian is functional but not perfect.
The problem is that Italians have difficult accepting a foreigner who is a professional and qualified for the few desirable jobs around.
I wonder if this is a common experience for spouse of other Italians who tried to live and work in Italy.
Although Italy is undeniably a beautiful country, I wonder if I would ever be accepted.

Hafize (Turkey) and BJ (U.S.A.) Lownie
Nashua, NH, U.S.A.
E-mail: bj©firstclassproposals.com
Hello/merhaba.
We met in Sept. 2001 when BJ, (originally from NY but has lived in NH,
just outside of Boston, for the past 20+ years)was working in Richmond England.
He was on assignment to Compaq Computer Corp., helping them build a Proposal Center.
While there, he frequented a restaurant which was managed by Hafize.
Hafize had been in England for 3 years, having gone there to learn English and to study.
BJ and Hafize talked...alot...went out...the theater being a favorite activity as Hafize is an actress....
got to know each other...and fell in love (sigh...'ahh.'...'Isn't that romantic?'...etc.).
BJ and Hafize were engaged in June of 2001
(he proposed while they were swimming in the Med off the cost of southern Turkey)
and were married in England (at Westminister...well...not THAT Westminster...
but at the registry office which is quite nice as well) on Nov. 7th of that year.
We started INS proceedings immediately (Nov. 9th).
The short version - Hafize arrived in the US on March 19th and received her green card that day.
(A 2 year temporary..to be made permanent after two years of marriage).
Four months from start to finish..a relatively short period of time compared
to many other INS proceedings...as many of you know first hand.
The longer version - We were told that we had to file through VT, as that is the processing center for NH residents...
so immediately after marrying in England, BJ flew back to the states to get things moving.
Mailed all paperwork overnight, receipted etc....only to have it go nowhere within "the system".
We were also told Hafize had to interview in England as that is where we were married
so she remained there to be available for the interview.
All of this proved to be FALSE!
When we started proceedings in the US, we were told it would take 6 months (at a minimum)
and that it could be more than a year.
When we hadn't heard anything by Jan. 1st (2 months)
we flew to Turkey and went to the US embassy in Ankara.
At this point, post Sept. 11th, the embassy was on VERY high alert
and it was difficult to get in to see someone...but we were finally able to.
At the embassy, they asked us WHY we hadn't started proceedings from there....
as "the processing takes MUCH less time that way".
To this we explained we had been told we COULDN'T! Ugh!).
On their advice, we started a second set of proceedings
(all the paperwork..and associated fees needed to be done again. Ugh!)
...and were told we would be given an interview date...to be conducted in Ankara...within 12 weeks.
BJ flew back to the US, Hafize waited in Turkey this time.
BJ also called a few "friends in high places" (including a senator, a NH Supreme Court judge...
as well as a few high ranking Turkish government officials connected to Hafize's family)
and we were able to get an interview date 7 weeks out.
Not real soon...but sooner. The date arrived, all paperwork (by the pound at this point)
was in order for the interview and it all went well.
BJ and Hafize said goodbye to Hafize's family and headed for the US.
Hafize will have been in the US for 6 months on Sept. 19th.
Not sure where we'll ultimately settle down.
We'll probably do a few years in Turkey, so that BJ can learn Turkish and then...
well, that remains to be seen.
We would love to hear from other Turkish/American households.

As an American woman married to an Iranian man whose parents come to visit us every other summer,
I would love some suggestions from others on how to help them make the most of their stay.
My husband and I have limited vacation time, but I would love for them to have a chance to do some traveling.
Has anyone used any kind of tour company that caters to senior citizen Iranians traveling in the United States?
My parents-in-law have learned a little English, but it's like pulling teeth.
Does anyone have experience with helping their Iranian parents learn English in ways that are fun for them and make them excited about wanting to practice?
I look forward to sharing experiences with anyone else in the same boat as I am.
I appreciate finding this website. I'm glad someone thought to create it!
It's much needed, given how many differences exist between some cultures.
Oh yeah, one more thing: my husband and I have lots of cats, and his parents aren't thrilled about living with cats.
Thank you! Looking forward to your ideas and suggestions.

My name is Jennifer, I'm Puertorican but raised here in the U.S. Well my issue is I've been dating Anthony a white guy for about a year.
(He was previous married and has 2 kids). Well we are going to have a child together in Decem.(Its my first).
Anyway my issue is that the other day we were talking about race and racism and he asked me what I thought about something he has been thinking of.
He said that he would like to promote to his 2 son to date within their own race before dating any other race.
I said that he should do that since seeing that I'm not white and we are going to have a interracial child together.
I told him that he shouldn't tell his kids that because in the long run they are going to fall in love with whoever they want.
Plus they are going to experience racism while they are growing up they don't need to hear it at home.
He told me that he wanted them to be proud of where they come from and if I didn't.
I said that is different. I will teach our children where they come from but will not suggest or promote one race over another.
He turn around and said that I was being racist and not being opened minded in the whole situation.
Am I being racist because of that?

My girlfriend and I plan on getting married in a couple of months what I need to find out is what we have to do because she is Muslim and I am not.
My girlfriend is from Turkmenistan and I am from Australia but we are both working in the U.A.E (Dubai).
My girlfriend is not a practicing Muslim. What I would like to now is what sort of problems we will be facing when we go to get married.
I would like not to face any problem so I would like to sort the problems out prier to making the big plunge.
Regards Stuart

Debby Lin (Taiwan) and Nick Endacott (U.K.)

We are Debby (from Taiwan) and Nick (from Britain). We are planning to get married and move to a third country.
However, there were so little information we could find regarding Debby's legal status in Britain.
We tried to phone up a guy from the immigration service and he was so unhelpful!
So,when I found this web-site, you don't know how thrilled I was!!!
It's really great to know that there are loads of people are on the same boat just like us.
However, it seems that most of the cases are aiming for people who wanna get settled in the USA.
Not many of them are UK-related. I am posting this msg. to ask for help/advices>
If there is anyone who knows any information about international-marriage in Britain, please write to me.
