Paula's Obstacles in her Life
Paula was born on December 1st. 1991 at Childrens Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. she weighted less then 2lbs at birth and doctors thought that Paula would make it. She did. When she was 3 months old she had an appendectomy; her appendix ruptured. We took her to the hospital for tests and they found she had cysts on her brain: 5 of them.
We had to put Paula on a heart monitor becouse she was prone to apnea spells:We had here on it for 3 years. Make a Wish Foundation called us and wanted to know what they could do for her. The Doctors had given Paula until she was 5 to live.she is still with us.
The last few years she has not grown as much as she should have. So we took Paula in and they operated on her. Paula had the casts for 12 week. Durning the testing the doctors came forward and told us that Paula has the first stages of M.D. It'll be tough for her and all of us. She is the youngest of 5 children and life is tough being the smallest. Paula is a fighter and always will be. We just look into her eyes and the strength that she has and we all become stronger for it. To see Paula go in to the operation room, waving and smiling, saying; Read me my book when I come out, is heart breaking. But we must be strong for her or else she might become weak.
When Paula is older we have to put her in for another operation to remove the cysts on her the top of her brain. We keep checking them to see if there's any change in the size. The back of her head is flat and the skull is not growing fast enough. We keep track of the amount of headache she has and hope that they are far and few between so she will be old enough to servive the operation to remove the cysts and put a plate in.
With Paula it's a fight everyday for her Life. She is a cute and very sweet little girl. We all pray that she lives a long time and hope she out lives both of us.
As of February 8th 2001 we find out when her next operation on her legs is. Then on February 14th 2001 we find out when her operation is for her head. We both pray that Paula is strong enough to for go all that is about to come .
