"You have no idea of the powers I now wield."

Queen Maeve is the ruthless, maniacal monarch of Temra, the nation which shares the expanse of an island with Kells. According to Maeve, Kells should be part of Temra, and it was stolen by Conchobar's ancestors generations ago. Her goal is to reunite Kells and Temra, fortifying the entire island under her rule. Her father apparently also bore hostilities against Kells, but as Conchobar said, Maeve is even more determined than her predecessor to defeat Kells. The hostilities between the two nations broke out into a full-fledged war about ten years before the Mystic Knights were assembled, and the reason why Kells' forces needed that additional help is because Queen Maeve had decided to turn to the dark forces to strengthen her armies.

Maeve will stop at nothing to rule Kells. Her determination has allowed her to rationalize using any means possible to gaining the throne. From her throne room in Temra's gothic palace, she constantly plots methods of capitalizing on Kells' weaknesses, including, in her opinion, honesty, honor, and integrity. On many occasions Maeve has tricked the Knights into believing she earnestly sought peace, in an attempt to get Kells to lower its guard. Also, she often tries to create disunity amongst the Knights, using either lies or even magic spells to confuse and distract them. Still, despite her various underhanded plans, Maeve has so far been unsuccessful at undermining the Knights' legendary teamwork, which allows them to prevail over evil time and time again.

When Maeve discovered that her own armies weren't strong enough to defeat Kells alone, she sought the aid of the dark fairy Mider, to magnify her own magical abilities. Mider agreed to help Maeve, and gave her a magical ram-head staff, along with a powerful green rhunestone. The magic concentrated in this staff enables Maeve to summon creatures from the pits of black magic, which send havoc through Kells as they rampage at will, demolishing peaceful villages and inspiring fear into the hearts of Kells' inhabitants. Her use of this accentuated dark magic is what lead the druid Cathbad to send Rohan to Tir Na Nog, which ended in the formation of the Mystic Knights, as well as the revelation of the warrior of legend Draganta. Still, despite her flurry of losses to the Mystic Knights, Maeve is still determined to accomplish what her ancestors couldn't: to rule the entire island.
