Intro
It dose not matter which body you have the Caddy 4.x engine series will fit them all .
Intro
This is a brief history on how this kit was created. Over the years I have built many Fiero conversions.
This first was in 1985 when I installed a 2.8 liter V6 in my 84 Fiero. It lacked the kind of power plant to put
into the Fiero so I had to find an alternative. My next choice was to go with a Buick 3.8 liter power plant
since the 3.8 L. engine uses the same trans axle as the 2.5L & 2.8L engines. I installed this engine but
found it lacked low end response yet gave good high end speed. To try to create some low end power I
collected the turbo parts from a GNX (Buick Grand National Turbo) 87 model with fuel injection. After
Installing these parts with great difficulty because of the difference in engine application one FWD the
GNX. RWD once the car was running the low end power was increased but the car sounded like a
wounded duck.
My next choice was to go with a V8 kit there are lots of V8 kits out there but I found most of them too
expensive or too destructive to the cars body. I do not like cutting the body or frame to install a water
pump, as needed with the 350 Chevy V8 Installation so back to the books I went.
After going through a dozen GM manuals noticed that the 440 4spd auto trans axle was the same for
all GM front drive cars, Including the Cadillac front drive cars. Next thing to do was measure this small
aluminum V8 and see what I can do with it. After careful measurements, I found it would fit the Fiero
chassis like it was made to go in there. Next was to see if there were any fuel injection mismatches,
there were no problems there either just simply remove the old, install the new with minor hookup
connection. Next was the concern of whether or not the engine could be mounted, no problem there
either, just fabricate the mounts and there are enough bolt holes in the block to facilitate the mounts.
So in it went and I love it. Good gas mileage plenty power, great sound and no outrages cost. I hope
this little intro is some help in making your decision on whether or not to go with the 4.1 or 4.5 liter
Cadillac swap. The choice is yours.
With Thanks Joe
