Variants Blakway/Blackway
My research has got stuck in trying to find a Samuel Blakway born 1794 who married Ann Grundy in 1817 Rocester STS. He was an "Overlooker" in a Cotton Mill and died age 33 in 1827 in Rocester Staffordshire. The origins are unknown but almost certainly STS. This surname is quite well documented by the Blakeway Society but Samuel does not appear, there is another family searching for him as well. They had 4 children John 1822, Charles 1820, Charlotte 1818 and Eliza 1824. These names appear in and around Stourbridge, and the name is mainly from WOR/HER/SAL/STS.
Other surnames linked are: Grundy/Gorman/Greenhalgh/Markham/Lewis/Curtis/Gooderham (and variants)/ Eastlea. At Rocester/Fenny Bentley/Higham Ferrers/Marlesford/Rushden London And counties STS/DBY/NTH/SFX/LND/MDX.
The Lewis family are all in NTH and in the late 1800's were a family of Blacksmiths in Rushden, their line goes back to 1635 in Inchester. My Grandparents were Charles Lewis Blakeway = Dilys Mary Croxford in 1909. Charles and his father Hedley were publicans of the "Bell Inn " at Marlesford Suffolk on the A12. Their 2 children were Evelyn Mary 1914 (my Mother) and Margery Elizabeth 1911.
