A side job that I started with a friend. It comes and goes and qualifies as part-time, but when we work the pay can be as high as 1400 for one weeks work. We have about thirty or so people on our roster. Some shows we use Five or ten people and some shows all we have and anybody we can scrape up. Our last major show we put seventy people working on the show floor. It can be fun and exciting at times, I got to sit in the Batmobile one time, see robots and stuff. But you walk ten miles a day in doing the job. Get to see the latest technology and such but that actually depressed me. On the show they had a machining center that was making a complicated part. Drilling, tapping, milling, and turning the piece like a lath. In the middle of all this the machine head backs up, rotates up and changes it's own tooling and continues on. I am now officially obsolete , there is no more need for a machinist. It all goes to the programmer now. |
